Author's Response: They will swim your way tonight!!!

So I know this chapter was giving you some difficulty, but it doesn't show at all. I think it's a credit to your writing ability that I felt so uncomfortable reading this- maybe because the conversation seems so familiar? Gah. I really like how it mirrored the Jim/Roy conversation from earlier, although Pam's a lot more clued in than Roy!

Oh and for some reason, this line really got me: Yeah.  Cause this isn't weird.  Talking to the girl who's dating the guy I'm in love with. Like for Pam, one day she would just allow herself to realize that she's in love with Jim-and talking to someone else about him would help make that fact even clearer. The hurt is what makes it real, Pam! Hee. Okay, sorry I'm so long-winded, but I really love this story!

Author's Response:

YAY!  Thank you.  It really did give me fits.  I wanted to show what I presume/hope/wish Karen is thinking - but I didn't really know how she'd exactly express that.   This whole chapter originally came from Karen's POV - but I switched to Pam because that's really the story I'm telling anyway.   I'm so glad you found it believable.

And yes.  My thing is I know that Pam knows...she just doesn't know what to do about it.

If she'd just ask one of us...we'd totally help her out.  SIGH!

Thanks again pennylane!

Oh my god, you did an amazing job of putting the reader in Pam's shoes in this chapter. Her conversation with Karen was absolutely perfect. Reading that I felt... stifled. Like I wanted to throw up. I completely felt Pam's discomfort and sadness. Wonderful. I haven't been this excited for an update in a long, long time. I can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response:

I didn't want it to be too over the top.  I wanted Karen to spill details that would hit Pam where she lives - so to speak - without making her relationship w/Jim seem ultra-serious.  I hope that's how it came across.

Sorry that I made you feel sick to your stomach, even though I'm totally taking that as a compliment.

Thank you so much for the review!  And I promise more soon.  I'm typing as fast as I can!

"Positive."  He plasters on a smile.  He steps towards the door as he teases her.  "Now quit slacking Filipelli.  Gotta warn you - I sold $5000 worth of paper today.  What did you do?"

LMAO. That always makes me think of that Kristen interview. lmao. Aaaanyway, GREAT chapter. Totally made me sad...but great, because I know we're getting there! I can't wait to see how you make it alright again!

Author's Response:

HA!  TOTALLY what I was thinking of when I wrote that line.

We are getting there.  I promise.

The next few chapters are key to that - so stay tuned!!!

standing there looking like he's watching the world's most intense tennis match, his eyes flicking back and forth between her and Karen.   This line is so, so awesome. Great chapter.

Author's Response: Can't you just see it???  Thanks Paper Jam!

I just want to say thanks for giving me a sneak preview because I loved this chapter.  I think it really goes along with where the series is at right now, and I have to give you a lot of credit for that.  It's like reading spoilers, though!  I knew exactly what was going to happen when I read it.  I can't decide if I like that or not.  Anyway, awesome, if I didn't tell you earlier.  I want the next chapter NOW.

Author's Response:

That's the plus and minus of beta reading in a nutshell.

And sigh - SO. GREEDY.

Trust me.  I'm working on it. ;)

Author's Response: Oh!!!  And just wanted to say thanks again for all your insight/suggestions.  You rock!

Oh wow, xoxoxo, this is a great chapter -- poor Pam!  My stomach is in knots just thinking about her having this conversation!  And even though this is sort of AU now with what we have seen in the Xmas ep, in some ways it has so much of the same subtext of Squirming!Jim seeing Karen & Pam talking. Terrific last line, BTW: this whole moving on thing is by no means as easy as he'd thought

Author's Response:

Thanks lisahoo!  And thanks for linking on the fanfic thread. :)  Yeah - I was trying really hard to post this before the episode last night - and I'm really shocked to learn just how little about Pam Jim has mentioned to Karen.  Very interesting.   One thing you can count on - Squirming!Jim will make another appearance next chapter. ;)  Thanks again!

It's Jim, standing there looking like he's watching the world's most intense tennis match, his eyes flicking back and forth between her and Karen.

That literally stole my breath. I love how uncomfortable Pam is (and remains - she doesn't settle). And Jim - God, at first I thought you were going to cut us out and not let us know how much he heard, but...wow. Very nice installment; CAN NOT WAIT FOR MORE.

Author's Response:

I gotta warn you.  I think it's just going to get more and more uncomfortable - until - you know - it's not anymore. :)  Thanks so much for reviewing!

I'm not really a WIP kind of girl, but I'm really enjoying this (Roy and Jim's conversation was excellent) and I look forward to reading the rest!

Author's Response:

Thanks Paper Jam!  I know reading a WIP is torturous sometimes - but I'm too impatient to wait till I've got the whole thing done before posting.

Hang in there!!  More soon!

It’s getting to the point that she doesn’t know what hurts her more, watching him with Karen, or remembering the way things used to be.

Yeah. Kinda like I feel when I watch The Office these days.... *sigh*

Here he was thinking he was fooling her, when he was really just fooling himself.

Heh. I love it when Jim gets all clueless around Pam.

Author's Response:

Thanks nej!  I'm with you.   I do have faith it'll get better - both in my story and on the screen.

Thanks so much for the review!

I really can't get over how creative you are with each Day of Christmas.  This was the perfect scenario, for Jim to find out Pam's going out to a club and I love the fact that it bothers him so much.  I would think Jim would want Karen to go, so he could "casually" ask for details later!

And my favorite part of all is how Pam outed Jim for dating Karen.  I'm glad she said it the way she did.

Author's Response:

HA!  That would have been funny - Jim sending Karen on a secret mission.

But IMO, Jim doesn't really want to know - just like Pam really has no desire to hear about what happened at Karen's.

Yeah.  Poor Jim.  It's no use.  She's onto you....

Author's Response: by no desire I mean - the truth might kill them both.  They are curious no question.  Just wanted to clarify. ;)

Do we get to see Pam at Tink's?  I am eagerly awaiting the next day.

Author's Response:

Alas - no. :( But I think the next chapter will make up for that fact.

At least I hope so....

Another amazing chapter. It's already been mentioned but the I know you line is just perfect. You've done a great job of conveying that Pam just needs to say something, and while it's not going to be an earth-shattering conversation, that doesn't make it any less painful. Bring on the Maids a Milkin! :)

Author's Response:

I wanted her to say it without saying it.  I think Jim knows he's not being all that sly - or that Pam could figure it out easily - but he's trying like hell to pretend it's not possible.

Milking maids coming up!!!

OMG, I LOVE this chapter.  This is so perfectly Jim and Pam and captures the awkwardness of that moment, that moment where he knows she knows and ... ahhh.  I wanted to curl up and read it with one eye open because --- man, it hurts.  I know what it feels like, too, I've been there.  Wow.  Nice job!  Write moooooore.

Author's Response:

I wrote it in kind of that same state - so I'm right there with you.

More soon.  Promise!

uuuuuuuuuuugh. They are so infuriating. lol. Get it together you two! lol. I loved that Pam was a little more ahem...ballsy in this though. Can't wait to see what you've got planned for these two next!

Author's Response:

I KNOW!  They are killing me.

I think she needed to be - well - if I want them together by Christmas in my story then she definitely does.  LOL!

Thanks!  Stay tuned....

Ah! These are all killing me, switching between utter cuteness (the hamster thing!!) and painful angst. But they're very, very good and I'm looking forward to the rest :)

Author's Response:

I know.  I'm sorry Semby.  Trust me - it's just as painful for me as it is for you.  Rest assured I'll resolve this much quicker than we'll see on the show - so at least there's that!

Thanks so much for reviewing!

"Everything's easy except…what isn't." - how very true.  Great chapter, loved the IM's.

Author's Response: That's them at the moment in a nutshell isn't it?  Sniff, sniff.  I don't know how much more I can take!

Wow, this is a great start and I can't wait to read more. Loved the way this line flowed “You’re not the only one who can change Jim.”  Pam says quietly, the laughter gone from her voice"

Author's Response:

They are both pretending to be so blind - it's just too much to tak!

I'm so glad you like it so far.  Thanks so much for taking the time to let me know.

Author's Response: eta:  That would be too much to "take." grrr! typos!

I am so happy for an xoxox fic. This one is fabulous, as usual. You are such a good Jim/Pam writer!! Can't wait for more days!

Aww. I got tears in my eyes when Pam said "It's just that I know you."

I could imagine each of their facial expressions so perfectly in this.

Love it so far. I'm already trying to figure out what you're going to do with the other eight days you have left. Five golden rings? Hmmmm...

Author's Response:

Oh shannanagin - me too!  These two are simply killing me!

As for the rest of the days...some will be literal translations - some - not so much.

Wait and see!

Wah.  :-(

I hope you've finished 8 and are ready to post it!  (My heart can't take a Jim/Karen movie night....)

Author's Response:

Almost Mox!  And no...you won't see Jim/Karen movie night.

But you might just get the aftermath. ;)

Whoa. Flashback to:

"Hey. Happy Valentine's Day, Beesly."

"Yeah. You too."

I pictured the same looks on both faces. This is wonderful!

I know. :(  That's exactly what I was thinking of.

It'll get better.  I promise.

I can't decide if I'm glad that Pam let Jim know that she knew about him and Karen. Judging from Jim's reaction, it'll be a good thing in the end.

Love the story so far.

Author's Response:

It's about time they stopped kidding themselves - and the rest of us.

It will be a good thing in the end.  I can guarantee that much. :)

We...I know you...the thing is I'm not stupid...he can’t for the life of him think of an end to that sentence. Well, of course he can't - because there's only one that will work. And it doesn't involve Karen, no matter how many Netflix they rent together. So many great lines here, just the right tone, xoxox...one of those rare fics where I could actually hear the words coming out of the characters' mouths. Would that they would.

Author's Response:

I just feel so bad for both of them.  I want - nay - need to make it better.

So.  I'm going to.

Thank you so much for the review Colette.  I'm always glad to hear that something comes across as real.
