This chapter was just wonderful.  Really, really enjoyable.  :-)

Author's Response: I aim to please.  Thanks Moxie!

You are a genius.  Can't wait to download it from iTunes.  Seriously, hands down my favorite new fic.

Author's Response:

I don't know about genius - but I'm so glad you're liking it thus far.

I'll keep you posted for when Dwight's album drops. ;)

Dwight on the recorder as the piper -- that is pure GENIUS, xoxoxo!!! And I love the delicate balancng act Jim is trying to pull off here.  Angsty goodness.  But it is the kind I like, because at the heart of it is a Jammy center.

Author's Response:

There was no other option.

Yeah.  Poor Jim.  LOL!  Jammy center.  Fanfic is like a candy bar.  Utterly delicious, but have too much and it might kill you. :)

he feels it…again.  It's still there.  It's still so easy.  Everything's easy except…what isn't.

Great line. And the last bit, where she's promising cover art and he's composing letters from Flonkerton Records...cute in-joke. And referencing David Hasselhoff gets you extra points!

Author's Response: Thanks nej.  Hmm, now that you mention it - that's my second Hasselhoff reference in an Office fic.  I'm scaring myself. LOL!

Very nice continuation - their interactions make me giggle AND squirm because they're so true and so right and they're so good at pretending.

Just one minor flaw, in my eyes (and feel free to ignore this, beause I'm not known for being smart like that): Karen seems to be coming off as kind of slow. She has always struck me as exceptionaly bright (this is what scares me about her, this intelligence). Again, that could just be me, so...

Still a wonderful glimpse; I can't wait for more.

Author's Response:

Here's my explanation re: Karen.  Her points were valid - her questions re: Dwight what any person might ask.  She's just not on the same page as Jim and Pam when it comes to what they find hilarious about the situation.  She's not immediately going to hatch a plan to play it up.

If you mean how she can't put 2 + 2 together about Jim and Pam's history yet - I'm thinking she's in honeymoon stage.  She's new in town - she's in a new relationship - she's not looking for what might be wrong...yet.

Trust me - once she gets a clue she'll be sharp as a knife. :)

Glad you liked it!!

Jim/Pam banter about Dwight: You are awesome.  That is all.

Author's Response: Banter, of any kind is my absolute favorite thing about them.  :)  Thanks Gen!

I like this but my favorite part has to be him commenting on her hair. I don't know why, but that sort of broke my armor and now I'm all teary.

HE NOTICED, DANGIT. HE DID CUZ HE LOVES HER. THE END. :D I'm sorry. I may be ill or just out of my head. But still, very, very nice.

Author's Response:

HE NOTICED, DANGIT. HE DID CUZ HE LOVES HER. THE END

Well now.  Do I really need to continue the story in that case?  LOL!

Glad you liked it!

Oh, this is fantastic!  Captured perfectly their dynamic right now.  Can't wait for more.

Author's Response:

I'm glad you think it's realistic - because gosh if it isn't killing me to write! Thanks so much for the review.

great minds think alike!  I only hope my rendition of the 12 Days will hold up as well as yours has started out!  I love to read your stuff. :-)

Author's Response: I'm just overanxious. :)  I have no doubt your version will rock.  The feeling is entirely mutual my dear.

I am SO excited to read more.  You have done a great job of capturing Jim and Pam post-merger.  I like how their interactions are peppered with both awkwardness and tenderness at the same time.  Why do you only post one chapter?  GAH.

Author's Response:

Why?  Because it was 9:00 AM and I hadn't showered yet - and I'm afraid of losing my job so close to Christmas. :)

Thanks GreenFish!  I'm so glad you're excited to read the rest.

I can't stop myself.  Looks like I've started my lunch hour - without actually going to get my lunch.  More later today for sure.  So just sit tight!  :)

Oh yay, merry Christmas to us! I have to agree with girl7, I started reading this with a huge smile on my face which slowly faded away- and I'm starting to feel like that's how most interactions with Jim and Pam are going to be for awhile! I'm trusting you to turn it around :) Can't wait for the next installment. And this line?:

Such a small piece of armor is nothing but a weak defense against something this insistent.

Awesome.

Author's Response:

Aww pennylane.  I know.  I'm sorry.   But it's just going to take a little time.

Trust me.  I won't do a Yankee Swap on you.  :)

"“You really sound like my dad.”  Ha!  Pam mocking Jim for being serious Mr. Boss Man is great.

This is just lovely and I can't wait for more installments! :)

Author's Response:

If anyone will be able to take him down a notch it's Pam.

More coming soon.  Especially on a night like tonight - with no new episode. :)

As he watches her closely Jim can feel himself, actually feel himself sliding backwards.

That's it...for all his resolve, he's a goner around Pam. And the progression from light and jokey to conflicted/yearning is just right for their current situation. The terrain between them is so full of landmines and, as you say so perfectly, his 'armor' (which includes Karen, IMO) is ultimately useless.  So looking forward to 11 more days!

Author's Response:

Oh Karen is totally part of his armor.  She's almost like his shield.  He's putting her between him and Pam but it's not going to work.

At least...not in this story. :)

Such a small piece of armor is nothing but a weak defense against something this insistent.

*shakes head*  Silly Jim -- he really thinks he can withstand the awesome power of Jam.

Looking forward to the next eleven days!

Author's Response:

I know I'm powerless so I can't imagine who he thinks he's kidding.  :)

Day 11 - coming up soon!

This is a really cool idea -- can't wait to see where you take us (and The Office).  Love the last line, too.

Author's Response: Thanks lisahoo!!

I loved this.  I could totally see Michael letting Kevin practice the drums in the office.  I loved the JAM interaction...and I could totally see Pam taking her turn at being aloof.  I loved how it turned from witty banter to awkward seriousness at just the mention of Pam's ponytail.  I can't wait to read more!

Author's Response:

That's all it takes for these two.  Simple things - blown way out of proportion.  So. Frustrating.

It'll get better - I promise. :)

Love this so far. It's going to be interesting to see what the maids of milking and geese a laying chapters are going to be about.

Author's Response: Oh the possibilities.  Just wait and see. ;) Thanks sharky!

Great idea! Love this:

"Shut. Up."

Heh.

Author's Response:

I love when I can actually see a scene in my head.  And that line?  I can actually HEAR.

Thanks Shan!

Okay, so I started reading this with a stupid, enormous grin on my face that slowly, slowly started to fade. I wasn't looking in the mirror, but I can only imagine that my expression at the end of this was sort of open mouthed and wistful.  This was great - such a smooth, seamless progression from their fun banter to that quiet aching.  Your style here really captures the essence of what their relationship has started to (and will probably ever increasingly) become: still a source of that joy, but a slippery slope to regrets and just...longing.  Loved so many lines that I got frustrated in trying to narrow it down to one, but I went with this one: "As the words leave his lips, he realizes all at once this conversation isn’t about what’s new, but about what’s not."

Gah, so true.

Terrific job - and the best thing about it?  I'm assuming that because of the song, this will have eleven more chapters!  (If you tell me otherwise, you run the risk of ruining my Christmas - just know that.)  ;o)

Author's Response:

Sorry to contribute to your slacking. :)  I know.  It's a roller coaster for sure.

And c'mon now.  Jim's not fooling me with his "moving on" stuff.  I wanted to show that he's not fooling himself either.

And please.  I'm no Scrooge.  There are 11 more chapters my dear. :)
