God.

The beginning? Flawless. Their interrupted intimacy? Beautifully written. Somehow making me love Julienne with the tiniest amount of description and like two lines of dialogue? A testament to your talent. Meeting his dad and the way Jim stood up for himself? Knock me over with a feather. Larissa giving me Eloise vibes and the whole dinner? Amazing. The frigging hair brushing scene? Fuck me uuuuppppp

You continually amaze me with your ability and the absolutely incredibly way you weave your words together. It is such an honor to me that I get to read them. Never stop. You are so so talented and this update was just indescribably lovely.

Author's Response: BT, I always love your beautifully written reviews and you are always far too nice to me in them. Thank you SO much for every word. Yes, Larissa and Julienne (and Eloise) are my new favorite things. Thanks, friend!

Omg the suspense. Everything in the middle-the party, the bath, YOU’RE BARE are you kidding me-was all so perfect that I had forgotten all about the threats and the following and suspicious men from earlier in the chapter. You weaves between suspense and romance so perfectly. I am, as always, incredibly in awe of your talent. To be alive at the same time as you are blessing us with your gifts is truly truly a privilege.

Author's Response: I love that you love the bare part! I wasn't sure how that would go over. ;) Thank you so much for your encouragement. It absolutely makes my day every time.

Okay, this is perfect. I think it is so spot on that Pam would initially suspect Jim, as that was the norm for the time. And I think he reacted in a believable way, and I love the little confrontation there at the saloon. And then the MAKE UP oh my good. Sister, *that* is how you write a shaving scene. And I am so in love with her confidence, even if it’s shy. You wrote that so beautifully. Just, the whole thing, including them asking Julienne to stay and then the mystery of what happened to Thomas! Dying over this whole thing. Knocked it out of the park again.

Author's Response: Haha thank you BT SO much! I was hoping that the shaving scene would work out well so I'm glad hear that it did. You will see more of her development as a character *ahem* later as well, but it is something that I definitely wanted to show. She is certainly coming into her own with him supporting her. Thank you as always!

Even a funeral scene. A FUNERAL SCENE. You write it flawlessly and beautifully and make their love for each other the focal point and my god. How do you do it? You make it look so flawless—and it is flawless. I loved this, the hint of intrigue and the reassurance and the BABY oh my god. Dying.

Author's Response: Thank you for putting a smile on my face like you always do with your reviews. 😘

Oh, my goodness.

You already know that I thought this was beautiful. As it always is. You have such an incredible talent when it comes to weaving a story in period appropriate language but still making the characters relatable and modern and able to reach across time and find commonalities with me, the reader, right now in 2022. Gorgeous.

And I love that you don’t shy away from hard and heavy things and show how those events impact our main two, in a very realistic way that showcases their love for one another and how they’re the most important thing in each other’s lives.

And the Pam Cece New Baby/everything else fallback was just stunning. I literally gasped.

Friend, take whatever time you need. These chapters you write and the story you tell is hard to put together but it is worth the wait.

Author's Response: Thank you BT, so very much. I adore your reviews every single time. Also, you win my adoration (whatever that's worth lol) for picking up on the everything else line. :)

Okay. This review has been a long time coming, as you know, since I decided to reread this from the beginning and then truly savor the chapters so you graciously blessed us with all at once like some kind of fanfiction goddess, which you most certainly are.

And not just a goddess of fanfiction but a goddess of WRITING and not only that, writing INSANELY, INCREDIBLY, AWE-INSPIRINGLY WELL.

Because let's be real, this is a full blown original novel. Sure Jim and Pam are there and they're recognizable in things like Jim's loyalty and desire to do what's right and Pam's tenacity and calm demeanor, but you've created new depths to these characters that we all know so well that it felt like meeting them for the first time. You put them in a brand new time and place and did it in a way that didn't put me right to sleep the way that most historical romances tend to do, but instead kept me captivated and intrigued and wanting to know how all the chips would fall for them at the end. And to leave us with a cliffhanger for book two???? I love you but I also kinda hate you, and I mean that in the very best and most complimentary way because the hate is only because I don't have five other books to read with this version of Jim and Pam and Larissa and Markus and everyone else immediately and I mean IMMEDIATELY. Your writing is the type that I would have left for the library or the bookstore to go get the next book the moment after reading the first one, or rather I would have gone out and gotten them all after reading a single chapter because it's quite clear from the get go that you have an incredible talent that I feel so, so fortunate to get to reap the benefits of. (But speaking of book two, companion novel about Larissa and Markus when?)

I could gush about you and your talent all day. And when I reread this as I know I am going to as it is thankfully on my phone forever and ever, I will likely gush at you again. Thank you so much for being here with us and sharing your talent with us. You're incredible, both as a writer and a person, and I'm proud of you and for you.

Author's Response: You are, quite literally, the best. d84;a039;

She had heard once that the person could see their life right before the death; she wondered if that was right about the relationships.

This was so good! I loved reading about them in this new setting, doing things that are so familiar with all the references to canon while incorporating elements that I haven’t seen before. And you are such a lovely writer! Your expressions and phrasing are beautiful. I am so glad I was finally able to sit and read this all at once! This last chapter especially just made me smile so much. Already looking forward to my next reading of a Dernhelm original!

Author's Response: Thank you so much, BT! I'm quite insecure about my writing, and your assessment excited me. And I'm glad that my story made you smile :)

It’s seriously all so good. The Star Wars, the phone calls, the conversations at the beach, her hands feeling bereft without him. You have such a lovely flow and voice in your writing and I can’t get enough. Hate to see this one only have one more chapter but already can’t wait for your next one!

Oh this is so heartbreaking. And so well written. You capture each of their voices so well and I have no trouble at all immediately accepting their actions and thoughts and dialogue. I hate that they’re so distant but I have no doubts that the angst and heartache is going to be worth it. Welcome to MTT! Way to make an outstanding first impression!

God this is so good. It’s so heartbreaking and gut wrenching and SO well written. And I’m so proud of Pam! I love that this story doesn’t have them falling together right away. This is serious trauma and Pam needs to deal with it (Jim too) and he can’t be her crutch. And I think it’s super realistic that she be angry or distant with him, the same way it was realistic for him to be that way with her.

Can’t wait for another update. Wonderful job.

He wasn’t supposed to make my entire body tingle as he said, “What’s up, roomie?” in a voice low enough that only I could hear him.

Oh okay well this gave me feelings in lots of ways

This contract! You are so dedicated to your craft. It is amazing. It’s what makes you such a good writer, you don’t skip on the details that make your work so immersive. Outstanding. On the same note, the nods to cannon with June 10th and using up her ten vacation days by her third week are amazing.

“ Hey, according to Thesaurus.com, caretaker is a synonym. We could use that instead. It sounds more like ‘babysitter’ anyway, which is basically what I’ll be doing.” fuck yeah Pam, you tell him. Also, I immediately associate obnoxiously loud open mouthed gum chewing with douche bags, so great detail.

“ Apparently, I was finally coming out of my shell, all at once, in a heated screaming match with a New York fuckboy who wasn’t worth my time and energy.” I mean if anything is gonna do it, a NY fuckboy certainly will.

“You know, I had this theory before today that a man’s ego was directly proportional to the size of his nose. Thank you so much for confirming that.” This is amazing. Amazing. Ugh. How are you so good and witty?

I really really really like Jim as an ass. And you write it SO WELL. It’s giving me Draco/Hermione feelings, which is a paring that is always so satisfying to me because a good fic will get to the root of his shit behavior while slowing her to stand up for herself and things are almost always hot as fuck, and I just get the sense that this fic is going to be the same way. I am here for a slow burn and fights and more asshole behavior and just, all of it. You’re so good. This was so good. I cannot wait for more!!

I cannot wait to read when they scream at each other across that Scott’s blue and things get heated and then-

Also I love this Jim. He’s a douche but it’s like, believable. It’s not a stretch to imagine him this way, and to imagine Pam taking on NYC and is it weird that I kind of ship her and Alex a little bit? Anyway you’re a genius, obviously, and I love this world you’re building and these versions of Jim and Pam and thank you for letting us get to watch you work your magic.

But also I love what little bit we’ve seen of the friendship with him and Mark. I love close male friendships and I love that even in his current state Jim recognizes that, too, even if he doesn’t want to share. Loved the bingo sheet and how it started to humanize Jim a little bit in Pam’s eyes. Loved the pizza. Loved it all. Loved you, LOML.

I’m so intrigued by this! I don’t think I’ve ever read a fic where they’re working for emergency services or the police. You have me convinced that you know what you’re talking about in regards to police procedure and lingo! But then of course I am way intrigued by all these cliffhangers! Can’t wait to get some answers to all these questions! But I love how you’ve set it all up without a whole lot of backstory or preamble and look forward to your reveals!

Author's Response:

Well I'm happy to hear I've got you fooled, you can thank warrior and television for that!

I'm glad to hear that the cliffs have piqued your interest, and I look forward to trying to answer those questions! I'm pleased that the little preamble hasn't left you feeling lost, I was a bit worried that might be the case, at the end of the day though we at least know everyone's personality, so thank goodness for fanfic I guess!

Thanks for leaving a review, I live hearing back on this stuff!
