I'm super-duper late to the party, but maybe you will see this... hopefully :)
I LOVED this. Delightful. Lovely and believable. I loved that Jim pushed Pam, that he wasn't misinterpreting things, that she kissed him back.
I'm sorry I didn't read this a decade ago!

WOW. I'm about a decade late reading this (sorry). I can't tell you how much I wish I'd known that this existed in 2006... how different my life could have been... (lol).
I have no idea if you'll see this, but if you do, my rating is two thumbs up, 5 gold stars, and a Dundie for best smut for you.

So, I'm a bit late... I'm not sure if you'll even get this, a decade down the track...! I just started a massive re-watch and NobleLandMermaid led me over here and all I can say is that I wish I'd known about fandom life back in the day but anyway, this was great. I spent half of the story with my hand clapped over my mouth, feeling like my heart was in a vice. I laughed at "Rumble in the Dunder" and Dwight's involvement and Creed. The ending was delightfully sappy (I have a goofy grin on my face) and I loved the "I don't know how not to be in love with you" and everything about the scene in the office, but mostly especially Pam being bold and brave and flirty and then taking Jim home with her.

Summary: Past Featured StoryYup, it’s a post-Cocktails fic! With a bit of a twist. Karen does a bad thing, and Jim is about to suffer the consequences…

I love the end notes! lol When I was in Japan I only ever got propositioned by drunk men (and a couple of jr high school boys I was teaching :o).
Do you have any idea how much I wish the answering service had malfunctioned and Pam had gotten all of Jim's messages? Yeah, I guess you probably do.

I love that you are writing this (and that I didn't have to wait 7 years between any chapters!). I was a little reluctant when I saw it was a role reversal because I think I've always loved secretly pining Jim and I wasn't sure I wanted him to be the clueless one. But there's just the right amount of what I loved about him in the show and of course once I got reading I just had to read and read and read.
I love Big City Beesly and, well, I love all of it, really. And especially Jim asleep in Pam's bed and "...draw me like one of your French girls, huh?"
and bonus, I got to the end and see you're planning on more chapters? :D

Author's Response: Clueless Jim is really hard to write! It's kind integral to his character that he's so "in tune" with Pam, even during the times they're not "in tune" like S3 and S9, but I'm glad to hear I wrote him in this role reversal successfully. I'm planning at least 3 more chapters, and hoping to get that going soon (though I'm going to do another all new story for November since I don't have enough WIPs!)

Summary:

. . . comes from some other beginning's end. Post-Beach Games. Based around the finale (but no spoilers).

I guess this is kind of AU now ;)

This is a lovely version of how it could have gone. Very sweet.

Author's Response: Thanks, I love the last few minutes of The Job as much as any JAMmer (Pam's face when Jim asks her out still gives me tears of joy) but I also would like to think a more quiet, private moment like the desk move and planning a prank could have happened and would have been very JAM like as well.

So obviously I'm reading this a while after you wrote it.... ;-) but I'm enjoying your little author notes about being in Japan. I lived there for 4 years '98-'02, before the internet was fully formed (ugh!! and Japanese computers were weird then too). TV sounds like it was the same.

Author's Response: Ha I thought about taking those off but it's a little picture into where I was at the time when I wrote this so I decided to leave them. I visited last year and the couple times I flipped on a TV it still appeared to be mostly weird variety stuff and eating shows, so don't miss that part of it!

OMG! :-) I am such a sucker for text conversation fics! I have no idea why. But the way these two talk to each other is so perfect for this. Their texting voices are spot on. :-D And for what it's worth, a decade later, that's what I thought she was going to ask him too.

There are so many things I love about this story! I loved that Pam had saved the card to read last and noticed it had gone and remembered Jim leaning over her counter. Dwight giving her the clue about where Jim keeps sentimental things in his desk drawer (I wondered what else Pam might find there). I loved that Pam broke up with Roy because she realized she didn't have the love she wanted and needed with him and that she took that brave step without knowing what would happen, before she knew for certain how Jim felt. I loved that she found Jim's card but decided not to take that from him and that she expressed her own feelings without knowing what his would be. And the cards! They're both perfect. I love that Pam's was so brave and open and that Jim's was affectionate and caring but couched in language that she could brush off as friendly if she wanted to continue to live in denial - that wasn't what I expected, but it rang so true. His wanting her to know that she was loved, but allowing her to choose whether it was romantic love or friendship. And I could read pages of things getting out of hand kissing on Pam's parents' porch...
Lovely story, all around. I had all kinds of feels when I read this last night.

Ugh, what can I say? I mean, this is well written and appropriate to the point we're at in the story, but if we're going to get intimate I'd much prefer more Jim and less Roy! lol. I'm sure you probably felt the same way writing it.
Well, at least he made an effort and thank goodness for the condom. ugh. Pam not being able to shut her brain off seemed like a very true to life detail.
Oh, Pam... it's so sad when she can't even tell (or won't own up to) what she's feeling.

Author's Response: The JAMmer in me was so angry after that episode but after reading a few fics (and writing this chapter) I definitely understand why Pam left with Roy, and Roy did make and effort . . . for about 1.5 episodes. And it a way it was all good, the rekindling crashing and burning allowed Pam to see she was right to call off the wedding and that she had outgrown Roy.

Kinda wishing the detailed sexytimes were in this chapter instead of the last! Even though OBVIOUSLY this is a wonderful. The awkward encounter with the neighbor was great. I love that Jim has no idea what it means until after it was over.
"Hey Michael, something's popped up and Pam and I won't make it in til lunch, alright?" Oh Jim, could you have thought of any worse way to phrase that to Michael?! snort!

Author's Response: Ha, sorry! I hope I put in enough hints that the reader can kind of fill in the sexytimes for themselves ;-) And yeah, you have to be careful what you say to Michael, he will find a "that's what she said" in just about anything.

Oh man, this is delightful. I read this whole thing straight through and thought, oh well, she never finished it but this is a really nice place to end... and then I saw that this was NEW and a WIP and YAY! I've been reading all kinds of wonderful stuff here for weeks now and leaving reviews for people here and there without knowing if they'll even see them... since I'm 10 years late to the party. But I know you're here :) I'm looking forward to reading the rest. I've slowed down my re-watch and I'm not sure if I'll watch every episode (there are some that are really painful to re-watch, like Michael and Jan's dinner party - eek!) but I want to at least hit all the great PB&J episodes again.

Author's Response: I'm thrilled you're here to read this and are leaving reviews! I do have the rest of the chapters planned out and at least 4 of them mostly written, I'll try to get the next one up soon (and I promise there will some sexytimes in, well not the next chapter, but the one after ;-) ) There are a few authors around and happy to see new reviews so definitely keep leaving them!

This is just lovely. I never did understand why Jim let Pam go in that moment - he had a car! he could have driven her home! gah!
I know why they couldn't do that on the show -- because THIS would have happened! :)
I'm re-watching the show from the beginning and so happy to see that Pam and Jim fanfic is still a thing. I didn't have anyone to flail with (or even know what that meant) when the show first screened.

Author's Response: SO glad you like it! Such a frustrating scene... wish I could just get inside Pam's head. Thanks a bunch for leaving a review!
