Aww that's adorable! Though definitely seeing up a The Negotiation style showdown. Excited for more plot! I recall you saying you wanted to be the longest and to be finished: half done! Massive congrats on that, my friend.

Author's Response: I had a lot fun writing this chapter. We're in for something interesting when Jim gets back to England. Thank you. It's been a long time coming to get longest story but it's been fun. Rest assured this story will be finished.

Summary:

The year is 1929. Pamela Beesly was doing alright despite everything going on in America. She was engaged to a miner, Roy Anderson, who swept her off her feet and took her to a new kind of life back in Chicago. After the stock market crashed she began to seek employment in order to stay afloat. Thanks to a sexy local club singer, in a pinstripe suit, named Jimmy Halpert and his in with the owner of the Green Door Tavern Pam was working nights as a waitress at the town's most popular speakeasy. Not to mention she was now employed by the largest Mob Boss in America. Michael Scarn.

Very interesting take on Jim here. I don't usually associate Jim with "babe" and assuming Pam's willingness to be involved with him, but the Pam you've outlined here is convincing enough to make me interested in more.

I'm intrigued by the idea that Jim is in something he can't get out of, but still agree with Kevin that he's a dick. Pam's still fun though.

I'm glad you're back. Congrats on the wedding! The AU part of this still seems pretty out there, but it'll be fun to see where you go with it.

Summary: There are 10,000 stories about what would have happened if Pam came to her senses either during or shortly after the events of Casino Night. Here's 10,001--complete with several of my favorite tropes. Post Casino Night. Completely AU.

Always worth taking a stab at a familiar topic! Your story will be yours and thus unique and valuable. And you've done a nice job starting it off. Looking forward to where you go with it.

Author's Response: Awww thanks Comfect! I hope you like it!!

This is lovely. I like how you have them ping-ponging in and out of the room, not having a lot of chances to actually talk because they're both so cute and nervous.

Author's Response: Yes!! He's so surprised and she's so anxious and I need them to compose themselves before they shared the same space for longer than a few paragraphs haha

I am glad Pam isn't just leaving it like that. I will say: "Pam was trying to read the emotionless expression on his face" is the one line here that doesn't quite ring true to me because I'm not sure S2-3 summer Jim has learned how not to show his feelings on his face if Pam's actually looking. But that's a minor point, because the beats in this, including his inability to let himself hope and thus to actually hear her, ring very true overall. Keep it up!

Author's Response: That's a good point. I was primarily going for the Beach Games reaction he had at her confession, but you make a good point about whether or not he would have been able to pull it off only a month after Casino Night.

Well done, Pam. I mean, Jim is doing well too but I think she pushed this to where it got, which is good on her. Nice story beats, glad you got them here.

Author's Response: Thank you so much, Comfect. I felt like Pam had to be the one to initiate it since he had already put everything on the line back in CN.

Don't undersell this! I've been reading a lot of romance recently and this fits right in. Nice work. Keep the story going!

Author's Response: That means a lot, Comfect. It's been like two years since I've written anything that could be considered steamy, so I was really challenged by it.

How far is it from Scranton to Philly? Because I think we need a subhead on this fic for that number of miles too. I liked this chapter, especially how it hews close to canon in all the moments we actually see but deviates exactly in the moments we wouldn't see on the show. Good job!

Summary: Michael feels very blessed a little earlier than Season 4 and Meredith is spared from being hit by his car. Instead, he hits someone else – because he’s Michael and occasionally he’ll hit someone with his car. So sue him? Set Season 3.

Amnesia plot! Super excited, definitely looking forward to this; please do consider updating soon!

But it's such a nice surprise to see another update! I'm very happy to see how Jim is coping and I love Pam and Karen in here.

Author's Response: A surprise for you & me both! I’m glad you’re enjoying the Pam/Karen dynamic in this because there is more to come...

Cliffhanger! This is very addictive. Thanks for the update! I especially love Karen and Pam actually talking without excessive cattiness. Nicely done.

Author's Response: Addictive is high praise! I feel like the cattiness isn’t really established in the show until Karen has a bit more of an understanding of their history (stemming from events like her conversation with Phyllis in Traveling Salesmen...) Considering Jim has clearly not given her much history, I don’t think she sees Pam as a threat for at least some time following the merger. I hope you enjoy the next chapter!

Dialogue was definitely necessary, and I think you did it well--interspersed with good internal monologue. I'm impressed with your Pam for actually expressing her feelings, and I hope these two can recover (Jim physically and mentally, Pam mentally, and them as a couple).

Author's Response: It’s nice to hear you didn’t find the dialogue too clunky. I’m trying to bring a bit more of a Beach Games equivalent Pam into this, even though she’s not quite there yet in terms of where this is actually set...

Humor can be spelled however you like, as long as you have a sense of it, and you clearly do (yes, we Americans do tend to spell it without the u, but I can assure you that we are capable of understanding it spelled correctly as well). I loved this update, and I'm so glad you're still pushing this story forward. Karen gets what she deserves here, I think, which is to say this isn't vicious, just natural. Honestly, it's probably easier than canon, because at least here she doesn't have to spend all those days fighting for the relationship without understanding the stakes. Thanks for the update!

Author's Response:

Don’t even get me started on how many times I’ve spelt “colour” wrong for this story! I’m glad to know you’re willing to overlook my international spelling faux pas...

I feel for canon Karen, she truly has no idea what she’s up against & when she gets an inkling, she digs her heels in & likely only brings herself more angst. I’m you found this version to be a pretty natural consequence. Thanks for your continued support!

Oh I am so looking forward to Jim's Mom and her idea of the situation. Nicely done here, especially Phyllis and your image of Jim's aspirational bachelor pad.

Author's Response:

I really wanted to repurpose a few of Phyllis’ canon-ish statements here, so I’m glad that worked.

I had planned on brushing over Mama Halpert’s visit, but this comment may inspire just a little inclusion... We shall see...

This was lovely, this specific chapter and the story as a whole. I really enjoyed how you had Jim's memories come back (though I'm mad at his doctor for OKing going back to work while he still thinks it's January of last year) and I loved this line: "whatever Michael did to Jim’s physical body is nothing compared the way his words crack his heart in two."

This was a pleasure to read. Thank you for writing it!

Author's Response:

Thanks Comfect! You can blame my complete lack of medical knowledge on Jim returning to work far too early 😂 I always pictured it happening at his desk/on the roof so I had to get him back there... I’m so glad you joined me on this little journey.

Oh I am so pleased with that cliffhanger ending. Am I out of line if I'm hoping this was an inside job on at least one end? I like Jim and I like Pam and I want his POV so bad but here I think you're totally right to only give us hers. Nice worldbuilding details, and I'm a big fan of your using Penny. Keep it up!

Author's Response: So I can tell you that you'll get some Jim POV in the next chapter and that the POV's will alternate pretty evenly throughout the rest of the story. What I can't tell you is who did the killing. What fun would that be?! ;) Thanks for reading!

Don't make promises you can't keep.

Lovely chapter. I like the Jim/Karen friendship and kudos on Penny. Very good characterization.

Author's Response: I’m not going to lie to you, I’ve got big plans for Karen and it’s entirely different than any way I’ve ever written her. I think you’ll enjoy it! Thanks for reading :)

"“He’s a friend,” Pam lied" oh Pam, just you wait.

Also I love the reuse of the S3 finale line.

And just in general, I am loving this fic. I'm so glad we're entirely in Pam POV, because it lets you set the table so well while keeping us uncertain about what's going to happen because we don't see Jim's POV. It's lovely technique, and I'm loving it.

Author's Response:

Comfect! Thank you so much :) It’s a tricky storyline, and I’m trying to keep it mysterious, but not too confusing so I’m glad that so far, it’s working for you. Promise you’ll let me know if (when) things go off the rails.

I loved this, as I have each chapter. My favorite moment was...actually I don't know because I just inhaled it all. So good.

One thing though: "There had been two glaring holes in Clark’s research. One of them she was going to ask him about that night. The other was his love life. Or lack of one, she wasn’t really sure. She knew that up until a few days ago, there had been a Katy, but beyond that, she knew nothing. Surely, he’d dated." -- In canon, we know Jim is not dating much because he's into Pam. Is it the same here? doodoodoodoo

Oh I liked this. Especially that we are in Pam's world view because it works so well not to know how serious and sincere Jim is. Please do stick around. I'd love to see more soon.

I vaguely remember there was once a mafia JAM fic I read in some distant life...

But seriously, this was really good. I'm a little worried that Jim and Pam now have asymmetric information about Helene's thoughts, but I suppose it's not really JAM if you don't have plates flying in the air with the potential to crash down ala The Secret or Beach Games. I still really enjoy this world, and I'm glad we got Betsy in this chapter. She's awesome.

That was fun! I like that this evidently linked into your bigger universe of fic too. Nicely done incorporating their posts into their characters. Well done.

Oh yeah, and I laughed aloud at the 13 Hours thing.

Author's Response: Thanks. It was meant to just be a fun good time. It was a lot of fun figuring out ways to get all of Jenna and John's posts or comments in there. I'm glad it worked out as well as it did.
