Oh, Ryan.  I think you captured him really well, and added a layer of uncertainty and depth to him that is hinted at on the show--but not made explicit.  I could hear Kelly in my head and was cringing right along with Ryan towards the end--loved it :)

Ouch, my heart hurts for Karen.  Loved the way you wrote this--seemed true to life and the characters.  The details that you included were written beautifully.  And I think you really got Karen down, from what we know of her.  Loved getting a story from her POV, too.

Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it, yippee.  I stressed writing Karen, but it seems to have worked.

Loved the Ryan POV here, and I think you really got his voice and thoughts.  The exchange in the kitchen was fantastic--his "I could ask you the same thing" was great and it really brings a dimension to the Pam/Jim relationship that a lot of people don't like or shy away from--especially in fic.  This was great to read :)

Oh man, Phyllis & BVVR make me grin like an idiot.  This was adorable!  Loved how you used Katy's perspective--it was really effective to read about her mild cynicism and her thoughts on older men and then have such a great, loving scene between Phyllis and BVVR.

So much fun to read :)

Author's Response:

Thanks, yippee!  It's funny, I never thought of this story from anyone else's perspective but Katy's.

Really liked this analogy.  I can see that in Jim's mind, visions of him & Pam in love (instead of just him in love with Pam) would be fleeting like this--something you could see if you were squinting, but that he's much more sure of his relationship with Karen.  You captured his thoughts really well :)

I know a lot of people are calling for a continuation, but I loved the way this ended.  It fits with how we've seen them act in the past--Jim telling the truth in moments of desperation and Pam continuing to hesitate.

Liked the way you wrote their thoughts too--Pam envisioning Phyllis and BVVR was great, and Jim's thoughts about being caught "cheating" really mirror what I think Jim would feel at this point.  Particularly loved the line about him saying sorry and how he wasn't certain about how he should feel about it.

Author's Response: I agree with you, actually, about feeling like I should leave it alone.  But I already started another chapter, though who knows what'll happen with it... Thank you so much for reviewing, as always!

I like the way you wrote Pam's thoughts here.  She's never quite self-aware, but she does have an awareness for the camera.  I could see her thinking about what people would think of her actions and I liked the way you made the reactions slide from sympathy to judgement to pity--if Pam never acts, that would probably be my progression as well.

Author's Response: Yeah, it's the progression I seem to be feeling right now. Who wouldn't pity Pam after The Merger? :( Thanks for the review.

Really liked your explanation of why Pam/Jim might not have worked out--I could see this scenario playing out if they had gotten together right after Casino Night.  Hopefully, now that Pam is taking art classes and figuring herself out a bit, they can avoid a painful fizzle-out.

Loved reading a story where all's not perfect for Pam & Jim.  Thanks for writing it :)

Loved this--you really have nothing to worry about :)

The moments were great, real and fun but what made me really love reading this were the hints you included about Jim's thoughts.  From the good-loved the 1st paragraph about him starting to feel like an adult-to the not so good-the little reminders of Pam were wonderful-all those thoughts fit really well into the story and into the characters.  I can see the next few episodes feeling very much like this--Jim's growing up, trying hard to move on, but can't quite leave the past behind.

The whole thing was great, but  my favorites were the 1st and last paragraphs and the scene in the restaurant--really beautiful.  Please write more :)

Author's Response:

I really hope the nest few episodes do show this, Jim growing up a bit. I'd like to see Jim being unwilling to return to the status quo (why should he? It made him miserable), but finding that his residual feelings for Pam make that harder than he'd like.

Thanks for the review!

This was just beautiful to read.  You captured a very real sense of sadness and uncertainty that these characters seemed to feel that night.  Particularly loved some of the little reflections that you included--the whole 1st and last paragraphs about Jim felt perfect and Jan's thoughts on how she held the "trump card" for a crappy night was great.  This scenario just makes so much sense in the context of Casino Night and you wrote it wonderfully.  Thanks for writing a non Jim/Pam pairing :)

Really loved reading these--the collection of little moments that together, told the story of the day.  You captured the voices of the characters really well in their respective chapters (loved Karen's list making).  Particularly loved the way you voiced Jim's thoughts thoughout the day--how he broke his rules and particularly the line about him owing to himself to try things with Karen.

And Michael's cracked me up :)

Author's Response: Thank you!  Yeah, I think Karen is the type of person who makes lists.  And Jim, while I do think that he does like Karen, is with her as part of his get-over-Pam-for-my-own-sanity campaign.  Wow, that was a lot of hyphenage.

I had kind of forgotten how much I loved this story.  Love your version of lost, confused, desperate-to-forget Jim who is still so recognizable as Jim, with hopes of peg-legs and insecurity about his social status even though he effortlessly charms all the ladies.

And even the mini-story within the story was fantastic and evocative.  I had visions (rather yummy visions) or youngJim on a boat.

And it should say something that I wrote this much without mentioning the overwhelming HOTNESS.  So, so hot...and desperate and aching...and hot again.  Loved it.
