You know the thing that's so great about this? (Well, among about a dozen reasons, that is) It's so plausible. It doesn't feel like a lot of "this is what I wish would happen" fics that I've read; this is more along the lines of "little do you know that I've got access to all the unaired footage, suckas!" :)

In addition to all that, it's sweet, it's poignant, it's funny, and all those other bits of brilliance that I've come to expect from your writing. Nicely done. Take two gold stars out of petty cash. Or better yet, let me give you five. :D

Author's Response:

Well that is so great to hear.  It's always my intention to make - even things that might be AU - sound plausible.  Highest praise in my book and I thank you for it.

Thanks for the gold stars. :)

Let's see here:

- Great, descriptive writing? Check.

- 2nd person narrative (a personal fave)? Check.

- Dorktastic keeping track of numbers and stuff? Check.

- Empire ref? Check.

- Nard dog haiku? Check and mate. :D

This here is a whole series of wins, my friend. (And I'll give the assisst to katie. :D)

Also, I have a song I need to send you that this fic reminded me of. So there's that.

Author's Response: Thanks, buddy - I\'m so happy you checked this out and enjoyed it! I\'ve never felt like my descriptive writing was very strong, so I\'m so happy you thought it held up. And as for my narrative voice - the piece always chooses its own for me. I really have no say in it! And you know me and Star Wars. ;) Thank you for such a kind review - I\'m waiting for my song... :)

Whew.

Mose finally exhales.

Okay, see, THIS is what I wanted. THIS is exactly how it should have (and probably did) happen. And THIS is why I could never write a convincing Jim/Pam argument to save my life.

Because you allowed this fight to breathe, gave it room to throw punches and get knocked down. You didn't retreat to "I'm sorry I love you let's have wild makeup sex before the fangirls start to cry." You just let it happen. Organically. Logically. Rationally. (And irrationally). Like a real fight between real people, you just let them go at it. And it was fantastic to witness.

The 2nd person narrative structure is a personal favorite of mine, and the PERFECT choice for a scene like this. It seems so much easier to convey exactly what the person is feeling when seen through that type of lens.

I'll echo the sentiment about the "you don't know how to fight with him" line as summing up so much of what their relationship was about at that moment, but for me, everything crystalized with this passage right here:

"Time had not healed these wounds; it had actually done the reverse. You had both lived with these tiny miseries every day and gotten used to them; having them laid out now, when you’re both finally happy, amplifies their ability to hurt you"

I mean... just...  GAH. That is practiaclly SATURATED in truth. It's quite literally dripping all over my keyboard. ;)

Out of the park, do you hear me? Knocked. This. Out. Of. The. Park.

Author's Response: Okay, first Katie, now you...you both literally had me choked up. Everything, EVERYTHING I was trying so hard to express and achieve you pointed out and...yeah. I have the good sense to just blush, thank you a LOT, and offer you too a *hug*. :)

Oh snap... this is just what the doctor ordered for a gray and cold January day, my friend! Hilarious!

I think that, gun to my head, my favorite vignette would have to be the, uh... fourth one. You know the one I mean. I can honestly say that was the first fic I've ever read involving an accidental...um... yeah. And it totally worked. Because we've all been there--even if we'd never admit it. Reminds me of the advice my dad told me before I got married: "Son," he said, "One of these days your wife is going to fart in bed, and you're just going to have to deal with it."

Sage wisdom, no?

*whispers* Also? The shoe size thing? Um... not true.

*sigh*

:D

Author's Response: Thanks, buddy! Glad you enjoyed it. As I said on the boards, apparently my skill lies in writing fights and farts. Could be worse, I guess. ;) You\'re right - you\'re together with someone long enough, THAT happens. The best couples, IMHO, just laugh at each other when it does. And as for that whispered bit...umm...we\'ll just leave that be. :) Gracias again!

A fantastic chapter, LC, and a valuable lesson for all Office writers to keep in mind (both writers of fic and the show itself): less is more. There's no need to keep going over the top like Stallone in order to try and blow your audience away. Small, subtle moments always--always--work best.

And that's what you've accomplished here in this quiet little moment. It's subtle, but it works beautifully.

Author's Response: Well thank you, friend! I\'m always afraid I\'ve gotten over the top about something (shmaltz, angst, drama, what have you), so your review was quite reassuring - much like Smuckers, with a review from Mose, it\'s gotta be good. ;) Thanks again!

::smort::

Niiice. :D

For the record, I think you do it just fine. You took your time and didn't rush things, you let it happen naturally, and it was totally worth it at the end. (buncha freebies there for ya.)

Author's Response: Ooo, I got a smort from Mose. Job well done, me. ;) And yeah, you just made it way too easy here. ;)

Now, see, if they'd done THIS on the show... :D (I know, I know...I just need to lighten up.)

Just so you know, "feel free to improvise" caused an audible snort over here. Good thing nobody was around to hear it. :)

Author's Response:

Is a snort audible if no one is around to hear it?  LOL!  Glad you liked it.  More to come soon. :)

I'll echo the sentiments that have already been expressed: how amazing it is to see such a fresh take on such a classic bit of Office history; how painful it must be for Jim to come back and be too late (or is he? Yeah, he is...); how well written this all is.

All in all, an excellent first salvo! You have much to be proud of with this. And welcome!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the great review, and the welcome! I\'m glad that you enjoyed the story :)
