I really needed to have Jim get angry and defend the Scranton people, especially Pam.  Not that it needed to be to Karen, but it would be nice to see him say out loud how much he loves them (although he kind of did in The Convention).  Well done!

Author's Response: Thanks! I just wanted to see Jim find something in Karen that he couldn't overlook (so we can get rid of her), and it seemed natural that it would have to do with the Scranton folks. They are his family.

This works very well in the context of the story so I am glad you went with it, and didn't force the snow, the skating, and all that.  Loved the tension, and clearly, they wouldn't be able to keep their hands of each other, but I am with Pam on not having sex in a theatre as their first time together!   Anyway, I am glad you won't be totally abandoning us for NaNo.

Because I am a homophone freak as you know, I have to point out that you have a little your/you're confusion here: "You're place is great - you know for a place with one kitchen." That is all the nitpicking I'll do because I loved it.  This cracked me up: "Is your apartment Fort Knox?"  The bit with the glasses was also very cute.

I adore this new story.  Your writing is always so full of imagery.  You are very evocative in very few words.  Sentences like "Alone in the dark, he could make the ache down low subside, at least for the moment; making the seasick feeling in his chest go away was futile." give me chills.  I like how real Jim's despair and tentative hope feel.  I really don't think it feels too dark or oppressive.

That's an interesting idea for a story.  I hope you continue it.

I am really enjoying this story.  The pacing is working really well.  I like getting insight into the events surrounding calling off the wedding, and I think you came up with a realistic scenario.  Something had to drive over the edge, and it was probably something on the apparence silly but that just finally hit her as wrong.

Thanks so much! I was thinking that, since Casino Night wasn't the "moment" that resulted in her calling off the wedding, that it  probably ended up being something mundane or seemingly unimportant.

I love that all your fics are full of little pearls like "All the same, he would have seen in her eyes that she was proud of him. The way she’d looked at him at his barbeque, when he rescued Michael by singing that insipid karaoke song with him. Or whenever he’d devised a particularly ingenious plan to harness the Dwightness of Dwight for her entertainment. His second thought was I’m so fucked." and "Any formulas to determine whether the motion initiated by perhaps just one phone call was going forward or backward."  So lovely.  I liked the idea that Jim tried to be attracted to Karen, and it sort of works because he is not indifferent to a charming woman, but it doesn't carry the power that his relationship with Pam has.
