She could have. Thing is I don't think we learned a lot about Karen personally other than her potato chip preference. That leads a lot of room for speculation.

Oh, assuming Ryan was only hired because he had a degree and she didn’t, sorry. She very well could have!

And, yeah, I don’t see her as “big picture” ambitious but they wrote her believably ambitious when compared to most others in the office.

New challenge: use the sentence “Karen was a mediocre salesperson.” in a fic. PolySci sounds about right though. Liberal Arts, maybe.

Maybe Karen majored in Political Science. I could see lessons learned on how to try and convince *cough* manipulate *cough* to her point of view could easily translate to a sales job.

Dang it. Now I’m wondering what Karen DID major in, if it wasn’t business. And NLM, the ambitious comment— do you think that’s more of a fanfic becoming reality thing? Like Pam drawing hands?

Yup. Ryan was very much a “he has a business degree” hire. I wouldn’t doubt that Karen’s interview was similar to Michael’s. It was a courtesy. I think they would have seriously considered Jim.

Ryan obvs wasnt qualified but I took that as a commentary on business putting too much weight on degrees, assuming “well educated” people automatically make good managers when they often dont

So I can imagine in her interview it was maybe clear she was chasing the status of the job more than she was actually qualified, she’s not portrayed as a particularly skilled saleswoman ever

Back to Karen: I see “ambitious” thrown around as a descriptor for her a lot but ambitious doesn’t mean hard worker or good worker and there were several signs she wasn’t either

Thanks warrior, I certainly didn’t come back rich! But had a good time at the shows we went to (Magic Mike and O, both are great!) and only one blister on my foot 😆

Also didn't Jan storm in during Karen's interview and cause that whole scene? Considering what Karen told Jim about Jan, I wouldn't have put it past her to say something to Wallace too.

Oh right! I forgot about that part of her interview. Though to be fair, is anyone in D-M upper management known for their professionalism? Must be how she got Utica.

It wasnt cool of Wallace to bait her but Karen badmouthing Michael, terrible as he was, in her interview wasnt exactly the mark of professionalism

I'd feel worse about it, but you know, I don't. *shrugs* I wonder how she screwed it up though.

Casual reminder that even after Michael botched his interview and Jim took his name out of the running, Karen still didn't get the job at corporate.
