Oh, this is sad. Hopeful, but sad. Sad for what Pam's going through, and sad for Roy - but I'm glad to see him being so understanding and supportive even though he's the one getting his heart crushed, again. It's very big of him and reinforces the point that he's a great guy, just not the guy for her.

Great job on this. I wouldn't be surprised if Pam does have one last night with her old flame...he caught her at such a vulnerable moment. But I think she will realize that staying with Roy will not make her happy and would stunt all her FNB growth. This will convince her not to settle for less than the one she really loves.
Thank you for writing this so well! Loved it..

ROY!!!
Oh my god, it's unbelievable how much I've come to love him. Like I love Karen.
Jim and Pam still need to get together, like, yesterday. but still. Roy!
This is was so achingly sweet. Heartbreaking on all levels.
Thank you so much.
cheers.

he still felt enough like home to her that she let herself have one more weak moment and agreed.
That, right there, is insight. Lovely. I want to cling to this story like it is hope itself, because I want her to come out of this with something positive. The only OOC thing (since you asked about this on TWoP) is maybe her just bluntly telling him about Jim like that. But maybe it's bubbling up so close to the surface now that it will just spill out. We can hope it does- and when Jim's in earshot. Nicely, nicely done.

Aw, this makes me feel better and worse for Roy. Better because he seems to be coming to terms with the impossibility of Pam coming back to him, but sad because he clearly still needs her. So poignant at the end when he wants her to stay anyway. And boy, do I wish that show-Roy could ever be this enlightened about wanting her to be happy, even if it meant with Jim. You really made me feel for the big oaf here!
Author's Response: Thanks so much! It's good to know that even if Roy's actions were a little unrealistic here for his character, that the story still affects people. Glad you liked it! :o)

Overall, I really liked this. There were a lot of parts I thought you did so well, like the lead up to Roy and Pam having sex, and how it wasn't supposed to be tearful because she wasn't supposed to be emotional about anything right then, and the way she stayed because he obviously still wants her and she's lonely enough that she wants someone warm and familiar to wrap around herself... all those parts were SO lovely, and so the Pam we're seeing these days.
However -- and I'm so freaking afraid of doing this because I've never really tried to give anyone constructive criticism before other than while beta'ing and I really, really don't want you to think I didn't enjoy this because I definitely did -- there were a few parts I thought could have been better. You mentioned on the TWoP forums concerns about things being OOC, and that was one of the things I noticed here. Not that it was an insanely obvious thing or anything like that, and I do think you did a nice job with Pam's characterization, but something about Roy didn't feel right to me. It's very possible that it's just my own interpretation of his character, but I don't think he's really changed that much from who he used to be. I'm not sure I can really believe that they would have had a heart-to-heart chat in the morning, and I really don't think he would have urged her to fight for Jim. He might grudgingly say something like, "Do what you want," but I don't think he'd really be rooting for her to get together with Jim. Also, I don't think Roy would have been at all surprised to hear that she was in love with him. I mean, maybe a little, since he's not really privy to all the stuff we know, like the kiss and the confession and everything, but I really think that he had some sense of what was going on all this time between them. He was jealous of Jim a few times -- or not jealous, but, like, possessive of Pam when Jim was around -- so I don't think it would shock him to hear that his possessive feelings were grounded in something that was really happening, and not just in his imagination.
This is all SO based on my own speculations, but I wanted to let you know what I thought since you were concerned about the very thing I picked up on. I still honestly, really, really liked this, and I think you did a great job on it. I hope you're not upset or angry about what I had to say here, because it really wasn't a major thing. I enjoyed this a lot. :)
Author's Response:
Wow, thanks so much! No, this review was awesome. It's good to know if you thought the characterization was off and why, but that you still really liked the story! This is how I interpreted things in my head before I'd even read anyone's opinions about the episode last night, and then when I did read what others said, and people were saying how Roy's change seemed like such a facade, and that he's still the same person, but trying to make it seem like he's changed just to get Pam back, I realized that's probably true. In my head, I'd thought that some of it seemed fake, but maybe he did change a little, and his time away from Pam made him realize that if he couldn't give her what she needed, then he'd want her to be with someone who could. But I can see now that maybe he hasn't changed at all and wouldn't be in that mindset at all.
But I don't know about him being clued into her feelings for Jim. To me, he'd always seemed so oblivious, like on "Casino Night" when he told Jim to "keep an eye on her." I mean, if Roy thought there was any feelings between the two of them, I don't think he would have said anything to Jim like that while he was leaving. But that's just my interpretation.
Anyway, thanks again for the awesome feedback! It helps a lot!

Don't you DARE hold out on us and not give us another chapter!! This was so good and believable...
Author's Response: Thanks! And I wasn't thinking of doing a second chapter, but if inspiration comes to me, then maybe...

Wow -- that is an unlikely source. But if Roy really loves her in a more mature way, it certainly could work out that way. And you've captured his voice very well here.
