I too will praise you for managing to wrap everything so neatly into a little package tied up with a bow. Though dying of dysentery is no laughing matter. Poor virtual Jim.

Oh, that was great! I feel like a few months ago, Jim/Dwight stuff would have turned me off, but lately I've been very receptive to it and that aspect worked really well here. And Jim with his thing for receptionists! I loved the ending, with all his empty hopes about "tomorrow".

HAHA! I laughed aloud at the sudden Todd Packer cameo. What a brilliant story.

Oh man, this is so great and hilarious! Oregon Trail and Dwight's valid complaints! ... which are going to 1991. HEEE. And Jim Having A Receptionist Thing (and Dwight maybe saving up for later the info, re: secret office relationships?), and then the joke-kissing and Todd Packer which explains so MUCH -- just fantastic.

Funniest line ever? - “Well I guess you’ll have to write a letter of complaint… and send it to 1991.” I laughed for almost a minute over that one. Also, I was going to have to get harsh with you for the snarky Duchovny comment, but you saved it at the end. ;) Poor Jim, doomed to repeat history...I think there was a Star Trek NG episode about that...

I really enjoyed the Jim-Dwight dynamic here. And how you through in elements from D-M as we know it today. "New receptionists, new life" - and how! Poor Jimmy certainly doesn't know what's waiting for him.

This is so good, with all the backstory of early Jim and Diwght and you did such a great job with their banter. And this “Like…hygiene problems?” Made me laugh so hard because it's a very Dwight thing to say. Brilliant.

Very enjoyable read. Thank you.

Ha! This... made driving to work in a snowstorm totally worth it. I need to find my Oregon Trail emulator now.

Freaking brilliant, oh my goodness. Constant crush on receptionists! TODD PACKER's GAY CLAIM! Dwight's liking for dating secertly! The PHONE TRICK!!!
Seriously. Absofreakinglutely brilliant in all, all possible ways. I'm going to read it a few hundred more times, now.

Okay, I figured out that this was actually an Alternate Universe story when you dissed my man David Duchovny's acting abilities. :-D
This story was hilarious. I love Dwight saying he can carry an entire dead bison. And speculating on breakup sex--does that even exist? And Jim's "It doesn't matter now that we've both figured out we're gay". And Todd Packer walking in on them....great! Very funny. So few people write comedy about this sitcom, and it's wonderful to find some! Thanks very much.

Okay, I think you win just for using Oregon Trail. I was a little weirded out when I realized this actually WAS set in the past and Dwight wasn't playing Oregon Trail now (hey ... why not? That game rocks), but, you know, I liked what EL said -- about Jim having serial crushes on receptionists. You never know...
Also: the Todd Packer gay thing just had me in stitches. I thought: of COURSE. That was a nice touch.

The Oregon Trail thing was great, but "Catherine" and the Dwight/Jim was a little unexpected and seemed out-of-character.

You've really done a lot with the pre-series setup - Packer, Jim and receptionists, Dwight and Angela, the phone trick, and everything else. My absolute favorite part was "pepperoni and cheese," though - I was playing OT at work the other day and saw that tombstone, so that made me burst out laughing.

My only complaint? David Duchovny *is* one of the greatest actors of our time! Ha ha. MULDER FOREVA! But seriously, this story is great. Great title, great use of the Oregon Trail, great back story!

You've woven so much into this story! Jim's serial crush on receptionists! Packer's gay thing! Why Dwight thinks secret dating is hot! Now I've used my allotment of exclamation points! Nope, one more is required: Heeeee!

I love how this turned out. And the title? Guh. Just so good!
