Oh, what a sweet scene! I love Pam being able to take care of Jim, even if she's getting sick herself.
Author's Response: Somehow the idea of her, taking care of him, just really appealed to me. Glad it worked for you too. Thanks much JennInTheCity!

TLC - very nice colette
Author's Response: Thanks so much, jinx!

oh, leave it to you to make illness sound wonderful. Vicks could appeal to a whole new market with this ad campaign. ;-)
Now if I could get Jim to come around and help with my sick 3 year old today, I'd be feeling better too! :-D
Lovely, as always.
Author's Response: Aw, hope mini-Moxie feels better (and you too.) Hmm, Jim as the poster boy for Vicks...marketing genius! Thanks, Mox!

Plot? Who needs plot? I see that your penchant for shirts-not-quite-buttoned-all-the-way has made an appearance in this chapter.
What girl wouldn't want Jim's cooties?
Author's Response: I am nothing if not predictable! And absolutely, that boy's cooties are Grade A Prime. Thanks for being such a great audience Lisa!

Did I not review this??? Shame on me.
I like Thai food. I like that Jim likes Thai food. I like that Jim likes Pam and Thai Food.
And I think that about sums it up. :)
Author's Response: Well, I've had Jim show Pam some lurve in fics via spaghetti, pancakes, maple syrup, waffles...figured it was time for him to mix it up a little, lol. Here's something you, Miss Thailand, Pam and I have in common: we all really like Jim (duh) and Thai food. But, I call dibs on this review! Thanks much, you shameful thing, you!

Dat's good stuff, dere! Yep it is!
Author's Response: Well, thank you very much...glad you enjoyed, Sevian.

Wow. I need just a moment. *fans self*
Loved Pam's interior monologue here about not being that girlfriend -- when Mr. Girl7 and I went on our quasi-first date (i.e. drinks after weeks of email flirting, not yet labelling it a date), we had a waitress who was absolutely unreal. I think I wrote her into one of my fics -- she literally, by the end of the evening, climbed in the booth behind ours and ran her magic marker down the side of Mr. Girl7's face as she asked if we'd like a refill. (Seriously -- and he had the deer-in-headlights look, hee.)
Anyway -- love the juxtaposition here between Roy's mean-spirited games and Jim's ever-watchful consideration. And I think Pam's insecurity is completely real -- wouldn't be surprised if that's one of the hurdles we see them cross this season.
But just as he is here, I somehow suspect Jim would do just fine at reassuring her.... ;o)
I've enjoyed every one of these -- looking forward to an update!
Author's Response:
I must go re-read that story! Now I remember the marker thing - yikes, sometimes life is stranger than fic, indeed.
And yeah, while I don't think Roy would be intentionally mean, I do think he could be pretty oblivious/dense/infantile (especially in high school!) and net out in the same place. Happy the contrast with Jim was clear and seriously - how could she not be aware of other women checking Jim out...she has to realize he looks just like John Krasinski, after all! Thanks for all your wonderful comments, girl7 - always tickled to get your seal of approval.

I'm pretty sure you've set some sort of record here -- I think I've run the gamut of emotions here (beginning with a snort at Hyatt and culminating in serious tears at the love letters).
Sentimental gets an unfairly bad wrap, IMHO; this was absolutely beautiful - the fabric upon which our lives are woven (if we're really lucky).
The callbacks to "The Convention" were really like a hit to the gut, which only made the context here that much sweeter.
Somehow you always take that gem good old G. Daniels has given us and polish it to a sheen that's simply brilliant.
Hats off, seriously.
And uh, yeah, it moved me -- did I mention that?? :o)
Author's Response: I'm thrilled the love letter idea seemed to strike a chord...it just seemed right (write?) to me. Like a really private, intimate, quiet way that Jim might verbalize how he felt and she could quite literally 'own' it. Glad it didn't come across as too schmoopy, cause that was my fear. I owe it all to Joni ;-) but I appreciate your comments all the same!

Ahhhh me. I can always count on you to deliver the oh-so-subtle goods -- black boxer briefs (which was sheer psychic channeling on your part -- either that, or you have intimate knowledge of JK's choice in underwear....), heavy locks of hair, damp shoulders....
Amazing. Loving this so much.
Author's Response: OK, I guess I'm outed...I do select JK's undies (in my delusions, anyway.) Happy this worked for you...I'm not so good at long complicated plots, so I mostly stick to obsessing over tiny scenes/details - just ask Mr. C. how talented I am at that IRL. (Can you spell EXASPERATING?) Maybe I should write Black Boxer Briefs II, the Sequel...must ponder. Thanks much, girl7!

Sigh. Enough to bring happy tears to my eyes. While we'll obviously not see moments like THIS on the show this season (or WILL we....?!), I really hope the writers communicate the sense of wonder the two of them will inevitably feel at finally being able to enjoy the simple things that the rest of us tend to take for granted; I think it might just make the agony of season 3 worth it....
Excellent work, as always, my friend!
Author's Response: Aw, don't cry. And yes, I think just holding hands would be a revelation - though, as you say, on the show they probably won't be horizontal. Thanks, as always, my friend!

Okay, my smile is reminiscent of Michael's in BfV as he's saying, "Sex...I had sex...with Jan."
And no, not because I, too, have had sex with Jan, but because this was so delicious and steamy and perfect. Love the Gary Cooper tie-in.
This is about as coherent as I can be, knowing that there are more chapters for me to inhale....
Author's Response: I think having one of my stories compared to having sex with Jan may be the best compliment I ever got (in Office terms, lol.) Thanks for that honor, girl7!

Oh, Colette! I wore this album out years ago! This:
He considers opening his letter with a lame joke about the convention renewing his commitment to paper. But he doesn’t, because they have plenty of jokes already. He wants to tell her things that aren’t funny.
is perfect Jim. I think we need to read through Pam's box of love letters and you need to write them.
Author's Response: I figured I wasn't the only one with some well worn vinyl Joni. I hadn't thought about Blue in ages, then suddenly got a yen to hear it - asked one of my kids to burn it onto a CD and it still holds up SO well. Some great Pam/Jim-ish lyrics too. Glad you thought Jim rang true here...hmm, a whole fic written in his love letters? Might be interesting... Thanks so much sweatpea!

Thai food? Jim? Yes, that is a spicy recipe I can live with. Jealous Pam is Adorable Pam(loved the look inside her head at the the restaurant). And, uh, yeah...loved that last paragraph. Bravo!
Author's Response: Well, thai food and Jim are two of my favorite things, so I figured

Oh colette, it is so much fun to read these. I love their fluffy everyday lives so much. And of course, the love letter chapter made me cry, so sweet. Thanks for sharing these with your adoring fans. :)
Author's Response: Aw, now I'm going to cry too! You are too kind, but I'm so happy you enjoyed these. Thanks so much for reading and commenting, EverybodyHurts!

Dinner isn't supposed to require a stunt double
LOL! I love this line. And the last paragraph--woohooo! Yowsa! Thanks very much for writing this one. I think I need some pad thai now.
Author's Response: Yum, pad thai. Glad you got a laugh out of that line - and a yowsa out of the last paragraph. Thanks, as always NEJ!

I hear tingling in the dark with Jim Halpert doesn't require a stunt double either. ;-)
You are too much, dear. But I hoe you indulge us in some more very soon!
Author's Response: Nope, I'd be happy to forgo a stunt (or body) double in that situation ;-) Thanks, doll - always appreciate your thoughts!

What’s up with you and her?’ she nodded toward the hostess, who only pretended to be focused on another table; clearly, she was thinking about Jim. Naked.
Hilarious! SO glad Pam decided NOT to be that girlfriend...bwhahaha. So, so fun. Have I mentioned I love this story? Your'e the best Colette!
Author's Response: Hee...do you think maybe it's Pam who has naked Jim on the brain? (Can we blame her?) So pleased - love when you love a story I wrote. Thanks millions, LoveFool!

::sigh:: I love that! Colette you totally make sentimental Jim and Pam work here! Not only work -- but glow. I especially loved the part where he talked about NOT wanting it to be funny...they had enough jokes. PERFECT. I can totally see Jim doing something like this.
Author's Response: He would write her love letters - it's agreed! LOL. And glad you mentioned that part - funny as Jim is, I think he'd really want Pam to know how seriously he takes 'them' (and, Earnest/Heartfelt Jim? One of my personal favorite Jims.) Thanks, as ever, LoveFool!

So very much to love about this chapter - I love the way Pam's jealousy was ratcheting up (I actually laughed out loud at "Just then Miss Thailand came back with some..." and Jim's ‘Dinner isn't supposed to require a stunt double, Pam,’ Jim shook his head and smiled."
And exactly how long is "That's it.....for now."
Author's Response: 'Ratcheting up' is exactly how I wanted it to feel - yay! Can I admit I giggled with the Miss Thailand line myself? And - oddly, the stunt double quip was literally added at the last second, while posting, so really pleased to hear it worked. Not sure how long...hopefully before the premiere? Thanks again, kaystar for all the lovely reviews.

Because I am a slacker, I have not reviewed this as I've read it, but I absolutely love each of these chapters. Beautiful, touching and fun. Thank you for sharing.
Author's Response: That's okay - I kind of have a thing for slackers (especially tall, lanky ones.) And appreciate your reviewing now - thanks, WalkInLove!
Date: September 11, 2007 05:44 pm Title: That Girlfriend
Spicy! I love this, because I think Jim will need for Pam to be a little bit jealous once in a while (the woman was far too passive about Karen for too long). And I love that Jim brings out new sides of Pam, even when it isn't in the encouraging, proactive way we all like so much. Fantastic, as usual!
Author's Response: Yeah, I'd like her to have jealous moments too...it's so his turn to be the 'beloved' (at least the 'as beloved') in their relationship. And ITA - it'll be really nice to see them open each other up a little (I swear, I don't mean that to sound nasty, LOL.) Thanks again, nqllisi...so pleased you enjoyed!

So very, very sweet. I have 89 letters in a box from the year my husband (then boyfriend) spent apart. They are my treasure. And your talent for capturing these voices and their true emotions is a treasure, too.
Author's Response: 89?!? I'm impressed! And thank you so much nqllisi...I'm flattered (and it means a lot coming from such a good writer like you!)
