Beautiful. The relationship between Jim and Michael (their actual interpersonal relationship and also the compare/contrast of their characters) is one of the core elements of the show. We see Jim's POV, and we don't hate Michael because he doesn't- we relate to Michael because on many levels Jim does. I've never seen a fic capture that dynamic so perfectly. Great job.
Author's Response: Thank you! Jim and Michael's relationship is one of the many, many things I miss about what we're not getting to see of S4. It seemed as if we were so close to getting a really good pivotal moment for Jim, something that Survivor Man had set up for us. Hopefully when the show resumes, we'll get to see more.

This is very strangely depressing and existential, and may be the only good thing to come out of Survivor Man.

I love the exploration of Jim and Michael in this. Their parallel was set up so well in Survivor Man, and you brought it out well in this. The line about growing up being more than just getting a year older ... so true and poignant. And perfect for Jim at this juncture. Great story.

This story is fantastic. Wow. You could not have pinned Jim any better. So realistic. It's tough getting older and becoming an adult, sometimes, and I like to see Jim's struggle on getting there and figuring out what he wants to do.
I also love the Jim & Michael friendship...and you really did it justice here.
Perfect. Just perfect. Great job.

There are far too many things about this story I like to single out a line or two, so I'll just be general (lazy?) and say I think you've nailed the Michael/Jim thing. Its nuances (both funny and poignant) are all implicit here, and so revealing about both characters. I've said it before, but in S3, I missed their unexpected empathy/interaction as much as Jim/Pam...was so glad to see that being explored again in S4. Also really liked Jim's realization that no matter how happy he is with Pam, she can't be his entire life - precisely where I think (hope) his character arc will take him...whenever we get to see him again, lol. Great story.
Author's Response: Thanks so much! And, oh man, I miss Michael and Jim's interactions too. We had such an awesome one at the end of Survivor Man, where things were really starting to click for Jim, and even though the show ended shortly after that, it was still a great enough scene to hold me through the strike (so far).

Whoa. Now I miss Jim/Michael almost as much as I miss Jim/Pam. What is it about those two? We were just starting to scratch the surface in "Survivor Man" as to who Jim wanted to be when he grew up, then BAM. No more Office.
"Jim nods, figuring that even if he has to drive Michael to work for the rest of the week, it's better than being Michael for the rest of the week." I wonder how many people will quote this back to you as a favorite line. It's like the fulcrum that Jim's whole plotline for S4 rests on.
I'm so glad to see you writing & posting here, BTW.
