Oh man, there's a lot I love about this. Pam using sports to bond with Jim when she's doing so much he can't understand as easily is lovely (particularly bc you wrote this before we found out Pam was a jock in high school). The way she identifies with the small, obscure nations, the way she makes the connection back to their own experience as "Olympic organizers...." and the ending of them knowing their future is just touching. Gold medal for you.

Author's Response:

Yay, gold medal for me! I do love the Olympics, so I made them love it, too. But it could have been almost anything-- the important thing was exploring how they were managing to build their relationship even when they were apart. (Which they did, considering that they got engaged during this period).

Thank you.

I love that this piece is dialogue-free until the end.  That really helps with the magic in phrases like "the millionth whisper from the universe telling him to never let her go" and 'it would sound silly to call her “enchanting,” or “effulgent,” or “vitally necessary for every breath I take.”'

Author's Response: Oooh, really? I struggled with that, because I felt like I went from very whimsically descriptive to talky-talky, and I couldn't figure out a way to balance it out. So now I'll just trust you that it works OK! Thank you, as ever.

"Jim laughed and called her “cute,” because it would sound silly to call her “enchanting,” or “effulgent,” or “vitally necessary for every breath I take.”

I loved that line. Actually, I loved the whole story, especially Pam recreating the Office Olympics and her response to Jim inviting her to go to London. Another gem!

Author's Response: Thank you! I liked writing that line- it just seemed like I stumbled upon something real there. I'm glad you enjoyed this, thanks!

Well, I loved it. You see, I love the Olympics. And reading about them just gives me a little tingly-ish feeling (especially if it involves my favourite ship!) So, I thought the fic was awesome.

On top of that, you seem to have made it so incredibly adorable! I thought that when you wrote that Pam like swimming and Jim retorted with "you like the swimmers', it seemed so Jim. I loved it and it was very clever.

Keep up the AWESOME work. :D

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I love the Olympics and I love Jim and Pam, so it seemed like a good combination. I'm so glad you enjoyed it.

Another Olympic lover here - so, this was topical and sweet and satisfying. Love that Jim is measuring time in 4 yr intervals -  now, that's (appropriate) optimism! And what a great way for them to stay connected while she's in NYC and also to call back Office Olympics - one of their finest moments as a team. ;-)

Author's Response:

I just love the way they relate to each other, and I think there are probably a million little things like this, that they just get about each other. Thank you so much, I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Ooh, this is so sweet.  The Office Olympics of Lurve.

Love this: the millionth whisper from the universe telling him to never let her go.

Author's Response:

Thank you! I sort of liked that line myself. :)  I just think at this point All Signs Point to Yes, you know? Even if it's just that they both like Olympic boxing.

I'm away for work and exhausted.  Tonight is the first night I get to see the Olympics live.  This little piece makes it all the more enjoyable.   I love the quiet way he loves her here.  Makes me all melty thinking about it.

Just lovely, Lis.  As per usual. :)

Author's Response: Yay, I made xoxoxo melty! I really wanted to show them being connected through every little thing, because I truly believe that's how they are. I'm sorry you're exhausted, but I am very glad to be able to help! Also "as per usual" is a very, very nice thing to say, thank you!

Oh, I love that! I'm such an Olympics junkie and it would be so awesome to have a boyfriend who got it too ;)

Author's Response: My husband and I have been staying up WAY too late watching the Games. It is nice! Thank you so much for reading and responding. I feel like a gold medal winner, myself!

::sigh:: I love the Olympics and I love Jim and Pam so this was beyond adorable. Such nice characterizations and moments like him seeing the dove/yogurt lid exhibit. Beautiful. :-)

Author's Response: Thank you! I just love the idea that these two can share everything. I'm so touched that you thought it was beautiful!

So great.  I love the ending and love hte Olympics.  So win-win-win... I'm sure there's a third win somewhere in there!  Lovely job nqllisi! Makes me wish I had that kind of a connection with someone! Thanks for sharing.

Author's Response: The third win is for me, to get such a nice comment! Thank you so much for taking the time to review; I'm so glad you enjoyed it. I love that these two can bond over anything, don't you?

Oooh! Yay for the challenges actually doing something. What? I am proud of it.

I was absolutely addicted to the Olympics in 96 and 02. 96 mostly cause they were in Atlanta and its hard not to be addicted when you live them. I mean, seriously, I was like 10, and I still remember going to all the events and just how amazing it was that summer. I remember being insanely jealous of my brother, because he got these amazing seats to the opening ceremonies, but I wasn't allowed to go. I remember staying up late, watching the events on TV. I loved them. (02 was winter olympics and how I fell in love with Jamie Sale and David Pelletier, because of a TShirt she was wearing in one little 'walking through the hallway' clip).
However, ever since those games, I haven't really watched them.
Until today. The family I was sitting for had tem on, so I watched them. And MAN, I just got into this team USA spirit, and my heart was like swelling with pride as they showed this commerical for Phelps and it was amazing.

Okay, I guess I can read the second sentence now.../pathetic.

"Jim laughed and called her “cute,” because it would sound silly to call her “enchanting,” or “effulgent,” or “vitally necessary for every breath I take.”"
Aww, I love that. I also kind of love that Pam had tears in her eyes, because that sounds like something I do!

"As she talked about their passion, how they knew they’d never win medals but they were striving and proud anyway, "
They showed this guy, from like Congo today. And he was 34, and in the swimming, and he was like 14 seconds behind the first place which really is a long time (although still faster than me), but I was just like, "go him! He's in the Olympics, hes still amazing, and he is this hope for his country and its amazing" And I got all this pride for him.

I may or may not check the medal tracker multiple times a day...And it hurt today when I saw China in the lead.

I love swimming, but not becaue of the swimmers. I would blush still if someone accused me of it. But, its so cool. That and women's gymanstics. I mean, those are like everyone's favorites, but they are awesome. Both I guess have this grace and speed ad something. Soccer I guess is the other one. Except I inevitably wind up saying "I could do that"... I used to have dreams of playing soccer in the olympics. Ah, memories.

I think Track And Field was one of the first events I saw. I think it was just a preliminary thing also. I remember going to the stadium and watching it, and we had binolculars. I also remember using my time with the binoculars to watch a woman 3 rows in front of us french braid her own hair, because that impressed me much more than the sports on the field.

"When she confessed that she’d done some research, he nearly cried." How sweet, how... gah!

"He realized with a sudden ache what Pam had done – she’d gone out of her way to share the Olympics with him, because he couldn’t really share what she was experiencing in her classes."!!!!!!!!!

Pam's art project!!!!!!!!!!!

They're going to the Olympics, they're together, they're happy. I say they've got all the medals in the world.

I talked a lot.....

Author's Response:

You often do...(ha!)

I'm very jealous of you going to any Olympic events! That's just so cool. And yeah, there's just something about those people who go who are almost surely not going to win but who are just so excited to be there- I love them. They're inspirational. Thank you so much for reading and for taking the (considerable) time to comment!

Cool! A story that combines my two current obsessions--The Office and The Olympics. Nice callback to "Office Olympics" with Pam's artwork. What an inspired idea! I enjoyed this little piece very much. :D

Besides your description of the artwork, this little bit stood out for me and made me smile:

Jim laughed and called her “cute,” because it would sound silly to call her “enchanting,” or “effulgent,” or “vitally necessary for every breath I take.”

Nice job! Gold medal for you.

Author's Response: Thank you! A gold medal is almost as good as a Dundie! :)  I'm loving the Olympics these days, too. Thank you so much for reading and taking the time to comment.

Cute idea for a fic, lis! I only have one critique: while I'm sure Jim would like basketball and the track & field events, his real favorite event--like all us guys--is the women's beach volleyball. :D

Hey, if Pam is going to get all hot and bothered over Michael Phelps, it's only fair that Jim get to watch Kerri Walsh and Misty May-Traynor!

Great job!

Author's Response: You know, I actually removed a part in which they agreed on the hotness of Walsh/May-Traynor because I couldn't get it to work right. Hee! Thank you so much.

This "tugged at my heart strings" (just like the dawn goose walk).  So adorable and clever.  Great job.

Author's Response: Thank you so much! I'm sort of Olympics-obsessed right now, so I was inspired.
