Okay. My heart soars with the eagle's nest on this one.
The well-crafted dual-purpose description aside, I particularly loved the detail of the kitchen table and how its place in his memory has completely changed now that it's being used by his new family.
Author's Response:
I tried to imagine what it would be like to be raising my kids in my childhood home (impossible, as the building has been razed, but a fun exercise nonetheless).
Also, I did have a bad habit of trying to be tricky. I think this one was justified, because it let Jim's love for his child just radiate out in a way that felt comfortable for fic readers...and then realize that it all comes from the same place, his love for Pam. Glad you liked it!

You caught me with the ending...that was lovey! Huge grin!

This was wonderfully written. You totally made me think he was watching Pam draw when it was his daughter actually. It's just awesome.
Author's Response: Thank you so much! I have a weakness for "twist" endings; I love giving the reader a surprise. I just hope it holds up when you know the whole story. Thanks again for reading!

Awwwww....it's what literally came out of my mouth after reading. I love what you did here, so sweet!!
Author's Response:
Aww, thank you! I'm a sucker for fluffy sweetness - and what is sweeter than Daddy's little girl? :) Thank you for reading and commenting!

Oh yay! I just read through all your comments and I'm pleased to know I wasn't the only one in tears. I think it held up even better after knowing who was actually at the table. I was able to notice this:
She tilts her head in concentration. It is a familiar gesture, and his heart floods with contentment that warms away the winter chill. As though sensing the change in temperature, she lifts her head and sees him there. She smiles, and it is his smile.
Oh! You meant it was literally his smile! And the head tilt is familiar because its her mom's! Niiiiiice. [/Kevin]
Author's Response: I'm sly, what can I say? Heh. I was pleased that others shared your reaction to this, too! There's just something about the idea that they're going to be able to see each other in their kids- it always stops me short to notice my wee lass doing something that reminds me of her Daddy. Thank you for your beta help and for taking the time to re-read and comment here (you know I love comments!).

That was simply adorable. I love it. I love the ending, how you made us think it was Pam, and then it's their daughter... tooo cute.
Author's Response: Thank you! I was in the mood for something warm and Christmasy- glad you liked it!

What a hook! Of course I thought it was Pam. Very sweet.
Author's Response: Thank you! Yeah, I was being deliberately misleading. Sorry about that. ;)

awwwwwwwwwwwwww. Man that makes me totally mushy inside. That's a good thing. :-)

That's my goal- mushy insides all around! Thank you so much, LoveFool. I appreciate it!

That was wonderful, you had me fooled thinking it was Pam the whole time =)
Author's Response: Yes, I am tricky. I guess I need to get over my bad habit of twist endings, but they're so much fun! I think he loves Pam like that, too, though, don't you? Thanks so much!

Beautiful. Absolutely beautiful I totally went back and re-read it immediately.

You know, you made me a bit ferklempt with this. I don't care if that makes me tragically uncool... Jim+bambina=puddle of Colette. As usual, you cooked up a whole world in a few hundred words. Love that ;-)
Author's Response: It's OK, Colette, it's hip to be square. Or something. Heh. You consistently make me feel OK with the fact that I apparently can only generate fic a smidgeon at a time, so thank you very much! And yeah, Jim and a little girl- *sigh*

Wow -- Pam, Jim + Christmas = Jam!Babies!
V. Sweet, lis.
Author's Response: Thank you! You and I share a love for JamBabies. And Christmas- what could be better?

How do you do that in so few words? You've painted this beautiful scene and captured emotions in just over 300 words. If I weren't in such awe, I would be jealous.
Author's Response: Oh, thank you so much. I get jealous of the fabulous authors here who can think of amazing plots and sustain them for pages and pages. Me? I'm lucky to break 1,000 words! I'm just economical, I guess. I'm so pleased you enjoyed it, and took the time to comment. Thank you! Merry Christmas!

You took me by surprise with an arrow to the heart, nqllisi : ) Such a sweet little fic. The lights on the Christmas decorations illuminate the few mutinous curls that have escaped from her ponytail. Lovely visual there and such a warm portrayal of a father's love.
Author's Response: I'm tricky like that! Thank you so much for your kind comments. I just imagine Jim behind blown away by parenthood (I know I was). Thank you again!

This was a perfectly sweet holiday treat. I'm such a sucker for Daddy Jim.
I like all dads really...soccer dads...single dads, NASCAR dads....
Seriously though - you paint such a lovely picture here. Made me smile - so thank you!
Author's Response: If I made you smile, my work here is done. And dads are good things, it is true. Especially Daddy Jim. Thank you!

Its a Christmas nqllisi story! Doesn't that just up the awesome factor?
Know what I love? How you paint the scene. Like I can just see Pam at the table, drawing. And the Christmas lights. Its such a gorgeous scene.
She is beautiful, and I'm no where close to as biased as Jim is. (about pam or his daughter!)
It's not Pam at the table! It's his daughter! And now I kind of love it even more, and my heart is smiling and damn you and your cute happy stories! I don't know why I'm damning you, because it makes me happy, but... man, so cute and happy and sweet (and now I can see his cute daughter at the table also, and awwww!)
Author's Response: Thank you! I know, I'm unbelieveably sappy, but I can't help it. Christmas and kids and all that just make me a big pile of mush. I'm glad you enjoyed this! (And I'll try to keep the awesome at a maximum as much as possible!). Thank you again!
