And you ended it with a "the camera crew gets involved in JAM" AU! Love it. I have a far more cynical take on the crew's involvement with JAM, but I really enjoyed reading about them as shippers on board who JUST COULDN'T TAKE IT ANYMORE.
Author's Response:
Yes, I was too deep in the throes of my 'shipperdom to do anything else, right? Of course, there's the flip side-- that the crew encouraged and manipulated the JAM storyline because love triangles make compelling TV. But at this point in time, we collectively just wanted to shake some sense into Pam, so I created a character who could actually do it!
Thanks for going through this. It made me laugh that you had read it before but not linked it to me--I have so many of these tiny things floating around that it would be easy to lose track of a few.

This is just really great - such strong characterization of Carl in so few words, it's really good writing.
Author's Response: Oh, this one was so fun. Thank you!

The story of the decline and collapse of Toby is one the show really could've taken a lot more seriously. I'm glad to see you acknowledging what he's going through here, and exploring the dramatic potential the show didn't.
Author's Response: I certainly went farther than the show ever did, but the man's face is the definition of "world-weary and downtrodden." It was hard to resist leaning into that.

Ugh. I feel your pain, David - and it's nice to know the camera crew was just as irritated with Ryan as I was.
Author's Response: I always appreciated that BJ let Ryan be so, so awful. I bet that was fun for him, now that I think about it. This was the idea that sparked this piece, I believe-- I couldn't decide if I wanted it to be a Kelly/cameraperson thing or a Meredith/cameraperson thing. Once I decided "both" then I had to round it out with the rest.

You know, I've read this one a couple times, I'm not sure I ever made the connection that it was yours before. I always love the idea of letting the camera crew impact events - one of the things that always ticked me off about Season 9 was that the Brian storyline was about the least interesting thing they could have possibly done with involving the camera crew with the story.
Okay, that rant aside - I like the idea of Meredith, as someone who isn't really a featured part of the documentary, getting a chance to get closer with them, and the line about her not having had a stressful day since she started talking to him was really sweet.
Author's Response:
Meredith was hard to write for (for the real show writers, too, I guess?) because they went so broadly comic on everything we knew about her. I was never quite sure if I had her tone right. Thank you for appreciating it here, though.
And really, the whole Brian thing was just dumb.

Bwahahahaha!
Author's Response: Hee, thanks!

That was really interesting! I missed this story when you first posted it, but I thoroughly enjoyed the point of view of the crew on the different Dunder-Mifflinites.
Author's Response: Thank you, ma'am! I got the idea for "camera guy in love with office person" but couldn't decide between Kelly or Meredith. Once I decided "both"- the other three just sorta fell into place.

I can't believe I didn't review on this before, but I have to let you know that I loved this story. I love stories about the cameramen! I'm so obsessed with the idea of someone finally telling Pam the truth. It's so obvious... just SAY something. Gah. I also love the bit about them bugging the phones and how Dwight & Creed always remove them. HAH!
Author's Response: Thanks! It seemed very Dwight and Creed to be anti-phone bugs! Hee.

Aw, Megan is sweet. It would be fun if something like this happened, but alas, I fear something much angstier. Great work!
Author's Response: Oh, it will definitely hurt more than this, but I wanted to end on a nice, fluffy note! Thanks for all the comments!

Ahaha! Creed groupie! And you know that a crew guy would be so bored by the bullshit drama that he's forced to witness on a daily basis.
Author's Response: Exactly! He's not a 'shipper. Hee. Thanks!

Oh, Toby. Sometimes I wonder about how much interaction the camera crew has with the characters off-camera, and these five things are a dream come true. Wonderful.
Author's Response: You're too sweet. Thank you!

I really love this one, because this reaction to Ryan is so realistic and human. This whole concept is brilliant.
Author's Response: Thank you! I had a great time writing these, but this one may have been my favorite.

Brava! You did so much more with this little snippet of an idea than I ever could have imagined. Even the first two, that we actually brainstormed, were so much more fleshed out. I loved that Ryan was the subject of the Kelly one. I adored the Creed backstory. Loved all the crew-eye-views of our favorite office drones. And then you totally go and solve the eternal JAM problem in this last one! You're a genius!
Author's Response: Thank you, dear. What can I say? You inspired me. Once I realized that I couldn't decide between Meredith and Kelly, I knew I had to make it a 5-things story. And if I had five chances, you knew one of them had to dispatch Karen (heh). My genius has a one-track mind!

Oh, please make it happen!
Seriously, some of these made me laugh (Creed) and some of them broke my heart (Toby).
Author's Response: I tried to run the gamut with tone, but I wanted to end on a hopeful Jammy note! Thank you.

This is really great!
Author's Response: Thank you very much!

Oh, these were great! I love when people dare to explore the camera crew's POV. Carl's was especially entertaining :)
Author's Response: Carl's was a lot of fun to write, but a little bit hard because I actually love these characters. Thank you!

Excellent!
Author's Response: Thanks!

That was one heart-warming thing to read, thanks! I liked Meredith's bit most; I mean I absolutely don't believe it could ever be so easy to get out of an addiction and issues that she clearly has, but, damn it, it's fan fic and we are allowed to believe that love can cure everything and turn your life around. So, yay for Meredith!
And, oh my, someone finding Creed cool? Outrageously funny. And absurd. Thus funny some more.
Author's Response:
Ha! Yeah, in re-reading I realize that I certainly did give Meredith a magical recovery. It would absolutely not be that easy, but maybe it would only take some real love to get her started down the road to recovery. Thank you so much!

I think I love this story to freaking bits. It's just so, so - realistic. Real. Someone in love with Kelly [I loved this one - I liked Ryan, but becoming an unTemp has changed him and I just would love Kelly with David now - Delly or Kelvid? hmm.]. Someone who breaks Meredith's drinking habit [which I loved, too, because it's sweet that she's found her happy-ever-after who makes her realise why not to drink]. Someone who worships Creed, which made me laugh so hard. Someone who helped Toby [oh, poor poor Toby - I love him and his mopey-dog face [as described by my sister] - thank goodness Tommy was there!].
And Megan, the everyday JAM shipper, except she could do something about it. Let's ship a Megan over there ASAP, because goodness, they really do need a bit of a kick in the butt.
I don't yet have the words to say how much, how much, I love this story, but I'll get there eventually, I promise you. And then I'll probably rant to no end. =P Brilliant job!
Author's Response: Wow, thank you so much. I loved writing this- looking at our favorites from a different point of view was a fun challenge. The fact that it reached you so much is amazing. Thank you, again!

Oh, I'm so in love with youuuuuu right now! These were perfect, all of them!
Author's Response: Huggy hugs! Thank you so much! I'm so glad they all seemed to work for you!

Oh, wow!!! Oh, I have no words for how much I love this one!
Author's Response: Thank you! These were all so much fun.

Oh, I weep at this one. Poor, dear Toby.
Author's Response: Yeah, I couldn't resist going to the melodrama well for at least one of these, and Toby just seemed to fit. Poor Toby.
Date: January 20, 2007 12:03 pm Title: David
HA! I love this! David is Jim to Ryan's Roy and Kelly's Pam!
Author's Response:
Ha! I didn't really think of it, but you're right. The idea of a camera person falling in love with Kelly is what sparked this whole thing, actually. Thank you.

I looooove multidimensional Meredith fic! Yay, you!
Author's Response: Thank you! (and thanks for the TWoP rec, too!). She's just fun to write.

I really loved this...especially the guy who hated Ryan! And go Megan! I love stories that delve into the documentarians--it's a whole area of new stuff that has hardly been touched on in fandom.
And now I totally want Kelly to end up with David. He's right--Ryan doesn't deserve her!
Author's Response: It was fun to create my own characters for a change, since I usually only write canonical fic. Ryan doesn't deserve Kelly...but I'm not sure anyone deserves Kelly! (ha!)
