Oooh, I really like this. Lovely images and theme, and the end of parts one and three just killed me, with Pam and her microscopic dot. Also, the dialogue in part three is just fabulous, putting a new spin (ahem) on the usual script. Great job.

Author's Response: So pleased that weaving that theme through the story, and the recurrent 'dot' image, worked for you. And I'm also glad you liked the spin (hee) on the dialogue - hoped I'd gotten across what they needed to say to one another, but simply. Thanks so much, sophia - big fan of your stories, so your comments mean a lot!

Wow. words cannot begin to describe how much i loved this entire thing! I love. There, I tried.

Author's Response: I don't know...'I love' sounds pretty eloquent to me. Thanks so much, StarShine.

Perfect wrap-up to a fun story.

Author's Response: Why, thanks, Luna Mystik!

There will be other picnics.

Heh. Excellent ending to a great story.

Author's Response: Thanks Rowena...glad it ended well for you!

Oh, pretty! Definitely the best picnic ever. And that was a lovely ending - the last line, so poetic!

Author's Response: I began with the map of the world as a metaphor for how she saw herself, so I figured I should come full circle and end that way too (no lame circular pun intended!) Glad you enjoyed, Semby. Thanks!

Oh, it's the best all right.

Yes.

Yes.

Yes.

I love the delicious, drowsy feeling this evokes:

You imagine staying here like this all day, all week, maybe never moving again. But it really is getting late.

Author's Response: Kind of thought you might like this last one, LL. (And so glad you did.) And 'delicious, drowsy feeling' precisely describes the mood I hoped would come across. Thanks for that!

Best. Picnic. EVER!  I think they should have all future picnics in bed! Thanks for this one Collette!

Author's Response: Hee. Something tells me they're going to have alot of picnics in bed...we just won't get to see them. Damn. Thanks LoveFool!

As a geography teacher, this fic is especially appealing to me.  I love the little uses of maps and references back to them.  Perfect ending as well. Loved it.

Author's Response: Glad you enjoyed, StarryDreamer - thanks! (And now that I know you teach geography, I'm glad I didn't get too specific in the ref's - I undoubtedly would have made mistakes!)

Wow, this was a great read! The first two chapters were so perfectly angsty, and then the last two, perfect JAM!

Author's Response: 'Great read' is a wonderful compliment - many thanks FancyNewBeesly.

Wow.  This is absolutely beautiful, and hot, and so many other forms of "amazing" that I could go on and on.  I love the imagery of maps throughout all of them; it's so well-done, and like someone else mentioned, I loved that so many words were carefully chosen--travel and routes and discovery, and you are here, for instance.  I must be in a particularly angsty mood, but 2006 might be my favorite.  Loved the whole thing!

Author's Response: I hoped little details/ref's like word choice would subtley call back the the map metaphor, without continually hitting that note too hard. So happy to hear that came through for you. Thank you so much for this very generous review, violet!

Oh please, I much prefer this type of picnic.  Better stuff to "nibble" on, without having to worry about ants.

Love the sneaky banter the next day while Kelly's chatting.

One more example of "how great The Office will continue to be even if JAM comes to fruition."  Hear me, GD.

Thanks Colette, for another awesome fic to add to the pile!

Author's Response: I can't believe I forgot to mention ants at a picnic (well, all but the last!) And I can completely imagine sly conversations at the office, full of double entendres, if they got together...okay, maybe we wouldn't see the actual 'picnic', but that's okay, GD, we have vivid imaginations to fill in the blanks. Really appreciate your taking the time to write all the separate reviews, EverybodyHurts - many thanks!

Yep, that sounds like the best picnic ever to me.  Let's see...picnic, or sex with Jim Halpert?  Picnic, or sex with Jim Halpert...gosh, from where I sit, it's no contest.

Author's Response: I know, poor thing, it must have been a harrowing choice for her. Thanks invis...appreciate all your feedback.

Steamy fun with Jim Halpert IS the best kind of picnic.  This was so much fun and so very needed.  Another favorite!

Author's Response: Seriously, what red blooded girl wouldn't want to go on a 'picnic' with that boy. And hooray for being a favorite! Thanks, bitterpill.

This might not sound like a compliment (though it totally and completely is) but I am very glad that there are only four chapters of this story. It is perfect and simple and complete. Nicely balanced, too, with two chapters of rising angst and two chapters of climax (wink wink) and resolution. If you added more, you'd be taking something away. I have no idea why this story isn't already on my favorites, but it's going there right now.

Author's Response: Yeah, this was always conceived as a 4 'summer' arc, with the progression you describe (I rarely even write stories that long...I must have too short an attention span!) I'm so pleased that felt right to you (and 'balanced'  - I like that.) Going into your favorites is quite a compliment! Thanks so much, Annabel!

I have to say there's no other picnic I'd rather attend.  I know I'm repeating myself but indulge me please. :)  I love how easy it is.  Just so simple once they get all the junk out of the way.  It's lovely and simple and just so...them

Thank you for writing it.

Author's Response: Well, thank you for reading it. And I'm glad it felt simple, because for all the junk and obstacles and complications, I think in the end it would be. Simple. (And get in line for that picnic, sister!) Much gratitude, as always.

*sigh*  So, so sweet.  I've been at work for 13 hours now, so that's the best my brain can do...but it's very sweet. :)

Author's Response: Well, I'm flattered that you even took the time to review after working so long. And 'sweet' will do just fine. Much appreciated, nqllisi.

Yeah, that sounds like a nice picnic...  YUM!

(insert inappropriate comment about places one could find Jim's penis here)

Author's Response: Wow, Mox...ever since you created Maximus, you just can't get your mind off Jim Jr., now can you? Remember what I said about you never being crude? Well, I take it all back (and I love it!) Glad you enjoyed the picnic, you nut.

Oh this is too good! Are you sure there isn't more? Because I for one would love more, but it's dawesome as it is too! Also, there is an actual thunderstorm outside my window right now, so that made chapter 3 doubly good! ;)

Author's Response: Sorry, that's all she wrote. But so pleased you liked it - and how nice of the weather to cooperate in creating the right mood! Thanks so much, Azlin!

Really disappointed this didn't end with Jim's dick on a map... j/k :p

Author's Response: Sadly, I pretty much finished it before I saw last night's episode. Otherwise, no question that would have been the ending. Maybe I'll do an epilogue. Stay tuned.

As far as picnics organized by Michael Scott go, the one you fail to attend is undoutably the best one. LOL  And she missed it for an afternoon of Jim!Loving?  Yeah, quite worth it.  I liked that you came back to the world idea at the end.  Overall, I enjoyed the structure of this story of one moment across the years.  It just made a coherent whole even though you made each installment different enough.

Author's Response: I'm pleased you thought the structure worked, MA. And yeah, I wanted the world/map idea to be sort of a consistent datum that ran through it, but with a progression from year to year that followed their relationship. Kind of like a touchstone. Or something, LOL. And seriously - a Michael Scott picnic vs. Jim in the afternoon? No contest. Thanks, as ever, for the thoughtful comments!

I really loved this conceit and the way you carried it through four chapters without making it repetitive.  Wonderful as always!

Author's Response: Thanks, secondrink...I'm happy you didn't find it repetitive - and that you enjoyed it.

‘Doesn’t look too promising,’ you say, glancing up as the sky darkens, threatening to sputter.

‘I dunno,’ Jim shrugs, looking you directly in the eye.

I just loved that.  Yay for double meanings!  And the rest....sigh...just so wet and sexy and wonderful.

Looking foward to '08!

Author's Response: Double meanings are my middle name (LOL.) So pleased you liked the wet and the sexy....stay tuned for '08 (hopefully tomorrow.) Thanks again, EverybodyHurts for ALL your reviews. So appreciate your taking the time.

These days, believing that Jim is actually anywhere is a leap of faith.

but inevitably, your mind will wander. It will go places it never quite ventured when he existed as flesh and blood.

How sad that picnic must have been for Pam.  I don't know that I would have been brave enough to go.  But Pam has certainly shown courage this season in the face of what she's had to deal with right in front of her face.

Great chapter.

Author's Response: Yeah, this was a sad chapter to write. And I agree - she's more courageous than she often gets credit for being. Really appreciate your thoughts!
