I loved it, of course!  I actually kind of detest the idea of a guy getting down on knee, though.  I think I would have preferred Jim to twirl her around and bring her in his arms and whisper "marry me", or some other such nonsense.  Also I have to admit I hate when stories have diamonds, just because I loathe the diamond industry that much.  If a guy offered me a diamond engagement ring I'd probably punch him in the face.  (He should know me better than that, right?)

ANYWAY my point is that despite all this it's still a 10/10, because you're just that good!  I'm all about the angst and getting to the point of fluff rather than the fluff itself, but I reaaally enjoyed this.  Yay!

Author's Response:

You know, I personally feel very much like you do (I don't even have an egagement ring; I opted for engagement earrings, and they weren't diamonds. ;-)) - but I just know that deep down, Jim is a traditionalist in many things and I'd bet my children that one of those many things would be proposing.  Not that he wouldn't say Yes if Pam proposed to him first, but I bet part of him would have felt cheated of not getting to do the whole 'down on one knee thing.'  He's such a sap.  An adorkable sap, but one none the less!

Thanks so much for the review!

Awwwww...now that was adorable.  I love that the PLoD no longer only has only scary memories for them.  Yay! for Jim & Pam!

Author's Response: thanks so much!  a proposal is the only way to exorcise the demons from the PLoD - do you hear me, Greg Daniels???

D'oh! Not fair! Such a lovely setting. I like how you're capitalizing The Ring. Can't wait to find out how else Jim gets thwarted!

Author's Response: heehee - yes, I couldn't resist.  It IS The Ring, isn't it?  Glad you are enjoying the story.

Awww...I feel bad for Jim and Pam in this one!  Poor Jim for havinghis attempt thwarted yet again and poor Pam for accidently messing it up!  However...I am very very much looking forward to the last chapter.

And good golly!  That Medusa's Head is one of the ugliest things I have ever seen!

Author's Response:

yeah, so much for modern art, huh??

Thanks for the review - I'm glad you are having as much fun reading as I had writing it.  :-)

Aww, Moxie, ya got me tearing up now.  And of course the PLoD is the ONLY place where Jim can propose to Pam.  It's the only way we can wipe away all that angst!  If TPTB ever allow us to see the proposal, it better happen there!

Oh yeah, lovely story, by the way, blah blah blah...insert usual gushing over all Moxie-penned stories here.

Author's Response:

You're too funny, EH - can I get a mp3 version of that usual gushing so I can play it on my iPod when I'm feeling unworthy??  :-)

Thanks for the review!  You're the best!

Ok first off, that's awfully similar to my ring (except I have a princess cut).

But in this day and age where it seems that extravagant proposals are becoming the norm, it feels like the meaning behind them is lost.  I can't help but think about an recent interview with John Krasinski and Mandy Moore on The Fuse, where John was asked if he thought about what kind of proposal he would do, and he's not even considering proposing to someone (that we know of).  I couldn't believe the stupidity of that question.

But that's why I love this story.  I love how it brought the meaning of the proposal back.  I love how Pam says it so poignantly  "Don't you see that I don't care where we are or what you do? If and when you propose, all I'm going to care about is hearing those words. You don't need to make elaborate plans because what's going to matter most to me is that you'd reached the point where you think marriage is our next step. Jim, you know me better than anyone. How could you think I would care how you proposed?"

For me a good proposal is about being inspired by the moment and by the love for the person recieving the proposal.  And perfections aren't in the extravagant details, it's in the atmosphere and the meaning of what is going on.  That's why that last proposal was more perfect than any big plan could ever had been.

Very well done, Moxie!!!

Sorry for such a long review, but I really needed to explain why that last chapter just made me so happy.

Author's Response:

Well I certainly don't need to explain the moral of my tale to you, BJB - you are so very, very correct!!  And really, could it happen any other way between those two?

Thanks for taking the time to leave such a lovely review!  You're the best!

Moxie, you've done it again.

What a fabulous story.  I was on pins and needles for each chapter wondering what would happen to poor Jim next.

This was my fave part:

"Oh, did you slip?" She asked, concerned when she saw him kneeling in the snow. She reached for his hand, but stopped when she realized what was going on. "What are you doing?"

Author's Response: thanks so much, beeswax!!  I know I was pretty hard on poor sweet Jim, but I hope the last chapter made up for it.  Thanks so much for reading and reviewing!

FINALLY! The fifth and first time he actually does. And hopefully, the last time he will ever have to propose to anyone.

Wow, yeah, stop trying and it happens for you Jim!

That really was perfect timing. And I have so always thought those two needed to get engaged in the DM parking lot!

So sweet.

Those are some honkin' big diamonds. That is all I have to say.

Author's Response:

haha - yeah I priced that ring at just under $5K - so yeah, no wonder it freaked Pam out a bit.  That's the equivalent of about 100 Roy Rings.  ;-)

Thanks for all the great reviews, Emily

Oh, I miss MoMA... i miss nyc... i miss the east coast!!! anyways, way to make me cry. that was so upsetting! poor poor jim! i almost want to smack him over the head and tell him, "just propose already! it doesn't have to be *perfect*!" i know i could care less, i could be proposed to in the middle of the ball pit at chuck e. cheese's, and so long as i knew it was the right guy (like, JK, perhaps..) , that's perfect enough!
but it's ok, i'll calm down. because iknow up next is Attempt #5!!!! wooohoooo!!!!!!!!

Great as always! I loved the image of them wandering around the museum, and Jim being too distracted by Pam and by his plans to really get into it. The only sad part about this chapter, was getting to the end and realizing we weren't going to get to see them all dressed up and eating a fancy dinner. I don't know why, but I was really looking forward to that.

Author's Response: awww - well I'm sure you could do their evening justice if you chose to write it Azlin!  Thanks for reading and reviewing.

oh poor Jim! but i don't blame Pam... scruffy Jim is a sexy thing :) i wanna know why he didn't just tell her! i know it's not quite as romantic, but can't things just be not so perfect sometimes? I bet Pam dies laughing when she hears all the trouble he's gone through so far. we'll get to see that next chapter when he proposes right? :)

Author's Response:

"...but can't things just be not so perfect sometimes? "

ah, perhaps you have stumbled upon the moral of the story, young grasshopper.  :-)  And yes, Chapter 5 is a happy place!  Thanks so much for reading along!!

Poor Jim - foiled again.  I like how you're using different roadblocks and not just interuptions.  Don't blame for wanting scruffy Jim though.  Hope we get the final installment soon and thanks again for another fantastic chapter in the Jim/Pam fantasy world.

Author's Response: Oh, scruffy!Jim is my favourite Jim of all - does it show too much??  :-)  Yes, I'm glad we are finally done with all the hardships.  I was feeling guilty making our favourite paper salesman suffer so.  I promise chapter 5 will go well.  Thanks for reading, jinx!!

Jim was certain his heart stopped beating in that moment. He felt it stop, and then he felt it fall through his chest and onto the floor.

I actually felt that.  Very well done, conveying Jim's world coming to a complete hault.  It's a good thing he is so damned determined to marry her, or this could make him say "screw it"!

Author's Response: Yeah, I think Miss Beesly is definitely pushing her luck - especially after this last snafu was really all her fault!  Don't think he won't tell her about, either!  :-)

Omg, how cute is DW/CFO as matchmaker!!!  And of course, only Pam herself could derail the proposal...

P.S.  How excited am I for Ch 5?

Author's Response:

I really think DW is my new favourite periphery Office character.  We need to see more of him in S4.  And did you notice how I made sure to emphasis that Jim didn't WANT to still be toting that ring round??

All will be fluffy and sunshine next chapter.....thanks for the review!!

See, I would be mad at her too for messing with my stuff. I think I have "control freak" tendencies, though. Hee.

Oh, and Jim is thisclose to just chucking the ring at her head at this point. If he really wanted to make her feel bad, he should propose without the ring and explain EXACTLY why he didn't have it. Heh.

Author's Response: Hee hee - I think Jim is besotted enough with her that he wouldn't have minded so much had the ring not been in the bag!    And don't worry - Pam will find out what she did come chapter 5....  :-)

Hehe, I liked that little "did you do anything illegal bit"

I think that David Wallace would help. He does seem impressed by Jim, and a friendly guy.

They are starting the new year together - FINALLY.

Aww, Poor Pam ruined this one... I knew it had to happen (the title of the story is a dead give away that four of these chapters are just going to aww moments), but still.

And that Medusa's head is really ugly and weird. It reminds me of a rat ball...Oh sorry it is a mice ball:

"But at the time all Jim Halpert knew was that the elaborately decorated pine trees were not the only things going down in flames, and the only person who would truly appreciate the insanity of the situation was the very woman he couldn't yet let in on the secret."   As the wife of a fire fighter I normally take fires very seriously, but this was a riot! I can just imagine the look on Jim's face as the trees went up in flames!  Nicely crafted third try.

Author's Response:

thanks, kay!!  I know it was a bit dramatic, but it was worth it because I was tickled everytime I thought of what Jim's reaction would be.  If only we could see this on the show....

I absolutely love the way you wrote Wallace in this story. The little note was a perfect touch. I really liked the Jim/Wallace interactions and hope to see a little bit of that in season 4. Definitely looking forward to seeing how Jim gets the job done.

Author's Response: Thanks, Larry!  (and for the rec on TWOP!!)  I can't help but think Wallace sees a bit of Jim in himself, and that I really hope we see more of Wallace the good guy next season.  I have to believe that guy is more than just a corporate suit.....  Thanks for reading and reviewing!
