Author's Response: Thank you.  Next one will be up within a few days...

AAAH!!!! This is so good!!!! Man, as much as I can't wait till Jim and Pam are finally able to be completely honest with one another and admit their true feelings, I'm SO happy with the way you've created this amazingly tender, slow burn. Gosh, it's so good.

What I also love is that Jim KNONWS now.  That's a beautiful thing. Next up...hopefully...Jim tells Karen everything?  Over the phone might not be the best way...but if we have to wait until Karen GETS THERE...let's just say I may have to hurt you. lol.

Now the hard part starts...I actually have to WAIT for chapters like everyone else. ;-)

Author's Response: Thank you again!  Well, you won't have to wait long THIS TIME because I just sent off the next chapter to my beta buddies.  It will be up before the end of the week.  I've promised NanReg, and I take those promises very seriously!

Ok. That's just...This is my favorite chapter thus far, for just so, so many reasons.  You just know these characters and these situations SO WELL. I'm not just talking about Jim and Pam.  Like you've said in your chapter notes - these people and these situations are things you've lived through and they ring SO true.

That old man talking about his beutiful bride -- I'll tell you this...you've done more than write a story here, you've influenced me in a really special way because you're making me think about needing to visit my grandparents more.  Even though my grandma is surly and not at all like the lovely gentelman you painted here...she's still my grandma.  This is more information than you need, but I felt like you needed to know what an impact a simple story can have. :-)

God, I hope hope hope Pam gets a chance to tell Jim what she was thinking about him having been sent by her dad to watch over her.  I tell you when I read that - INSTANT tears.  I do not cry while reading fanfic, I think it's MAYBE happened once.  That was tremendous.

Author's Response:

LoveFool, you are totally making my day with all these reviews!  Hardly ANYONE writes reviews for chapters as they read through a story.  I truly appreciate your taking the time to share your thoughts with me as you go.  And tears?  Just, wow.  Thanks!

And thanks, too, for sharing the comment about your decision to visit your grandparents a bit more.  It really does mean a lot to me to hear that this story is making a difference for people "in real life."  (Two readers commented that the hospital information in here helped them through their own ICU traumas.  THAT was amazing to hear!)

You know my dad (aka Walker Man) was not always so gentlemanly with my son.  He could be downright crochety because, well, when you're over 80, preteens are a bit overstimulating I guess.  But he still loved Young Blood to bits and was proud of him like you couldn't believe.  Young Blood regrets now  that he didn't pay better attention to his grandparents but he was too young to really understand.  I hope it works out for you that you get some quality time with your grandparents if you do follow through on this effort.  Just know that they probably will appreciate the attention more than you'll ever really see.  I don't know why old people get that way.  I'm hoping I can avoid it.

So, this response is turning into a regular chapter in itself!  Thanks again for all the reviews!!!!!!!

Aw, I'm in love with Jim's mom.  I love how she just got straight to the point here.  Before you described her as being diplomatic...looks like a near death experience sort of made her a little blunt.  GOOD.

You know I have to say when all this was going on during season 3, it often got under my skin when people got angry with Jim for using Karen.  I think the thing that I never agreed with was that he was doing it in any conscious way.  I still think that the main person Jim was fooling was himself. I think he honestly thought that "one day" he'd fall in love with Karen.  That what he was biding his time for was the day it all clicked and he was no longer in love with Pam and he was in fact in love with his girlfriend. The sad part is we all sat on the outside knowing that would never happen for him. ::sigh::

Well it's nice to revisit this knowing what we know now. :-)

This continues to be an excellently written piece.  I'm going to be SO SAD when I get to chapter 34.  I hope you're updating regularly, lady. ;-)

Author's Response: Yep, I'm with you on S3 Jim.  I think he was hoping, hoping, hoping he'd fall in love with Karen and get out of the hell he found himself living in.  I'm really glad you're enjoying the story so much!

aaack! In the middle of this wonderfulness I could no longer access the site last night! lol. Attck site? Pushaw! Who cares?! lol.  Anyway...I'm back on now - at least through AOL and this was a VERY nice little interlude to come back to...Jim and Pam spooning? PERFECT. Next up...

Author's Response: That's too funny!  Well, I hope you still enjoyed your bottle of wine last night.

Awesome update. I just love how you get these two wrapped around each other in bed! I can relate to the new job craziness. I just started a new job on the 12th after spending 5 weeks wrapping up the old one (when all I wanted was to take a vacation). Ugh.

Author's Response:

Congratulations on your new job!  I at least was coming off a great vacation when I went into my two weeks of craziness.

Glad you enjoyed the chapter.

good luck with the new job!

great chapter - so hard right now to be patient - i've never had to wait for a chapter of this story before!

can't wait to see what happens!

Author's Response: Well, my postings are often pretty slow.  (As is obvious if you look at the creation date for this story.)  But I've got the next one moving along nicely, so I'm promising to have it up by next weekend.

Wow....First of all, you obviously have such a tremendous knowledge about all of this hospital stuff and I felt like you crafted it into the story in a way that was so believable and so very overwhelming for poor Jim.  The reasons you gave for Pam staying with Roy -- absolutely. I buy all of that.  I'm excited about continuing to read this...here I go...

Author's Response: Yay!  Thank you!  I hope you enjoy the rest of the story.

Alright...so I'm not sure I have an excuse as to why I have never read this story...but I'm reading now and I'm only on the fourth chapter and I'm quite intrigued. Friday night, a bottle of wine, and 30 chapters ahead of me? This is shaping up to be a great evening. I'll report back soon!

Author's Response: OK, I'll sound like a gushing idiot now but I'm WAY excited to be getting a review from you, LoveFool!  I love your stories!  When I tried to get on the site last night, it was down.  Were you able to finish all 30 chapters?  If you were, was your keister numb by the end?

that was incredible. so powerful and expressive, even though not all was out in the open. i loved pam's inner thoughts on her dad sending jim down to watch her. that was so beautiful. lovely. this is the most powerful story i've ever read. i really feel drawn to the versions of jim and pam that you write about, they seem like such troubled, yet lovable and big hearted people. i love reading about pam's father, he sounds like an incredible man. it's beautiful the way you talk about their chapel moments. they're some of my favorite parts to read in this story.

i love also the way you show jim and pam touching one another. the way they hold each other's hands, hug each other, kiss their hair and foreheads, shy, yet powerful connections that give each other the energy they need to get through this experience for both of them. you're doing such an amazing job, i enjoy this so much and am savoring every chapter. i don't want the story to ever end, because it is all so real. it's hard to say you're in love with a traumatic hospital story about two people who could've died and are now recovering. yet the people who care for them here are so amazing and it's a delight to read about YOUR jim and pam. i can't wait to keep reading.

Author's Response:

Well, first of all, you can forget my question about which chapter the other review was about.  I just for the first time noticed that, when I go into the response screen, the display changes the chapter title to "None."  But when I go back to the list of reviews, I see the right title names.  I know now that the last review was for "Not a Bad Day."

I just don't even know what to say to such a glowing review.  Thank you.

okay. i'm SO SORRY that this is the first review i've written for this story. i've read from the beginning, yet i was so engaged to the story i didn't want to stop. i even was reading until about 11:40 on a school night when i was done studying before the office. talk about dedication.

i guess this is the best time of any to say i am so in love with this story. i've said about three times before to an author that a story was my favorite ever, but then i read something else that changes my mind. so currently this is the chart topper. BY FAR. amazing job - with every chapter. never seen a typo, always makes perfect sense. the dialogue is so smooth (which is a struggle for most). you're just doing an incredible job. amazing actually. this has been my favorite chapter of all of them. so descriptive - which is actually my drug, i cling to every word, and jim's thoughts and reactions were incredible this chapter.

fantastic job, and i probably won't review for a while. maybe once again at the most recent chapter. and fyi, i don't like to say much at the last chapter, because i like to keep all the amazingly rich thoughts in my mind. i know, i'm so greedy.

i'm reading again in 3...2...1...

p.s. i'm giving you about a 20 out of 10 so far for this story. dead serious.

Author's Response:

Wow!!  You have pretty much left me speechless here, pamelamorganhalpert!  Thank you so much for leaving such a great review.  There actually are a few typos out there.  I sometimes find them when I'm re-reading to make sure I'm keeping things consistent.  (A wee bit of a challenge when you take almost 2 years to finish a story with this many chapters...)  I do edit the story and fix 'em when I find them.  I'm glad you think the dialogue sounds authentic and that you think it's descriptive enough.  That's where I struggle.  I tend to write all the dialogue first and have to fill in later.

Which chapter were you reviewing, if I may ask.  I'm interested since you said it was your favorite.  The title reviewed shows as "none."

Well, before my computer craps out, I should get back to revising the next chapter.  Thanks again!

Well, hello there unresolved sexual tension, how nice of you to join us!

VB, that was hot. How did you do it? Make it so hot, when technically, nothing even happens? The way they sleep , holding each other. It's so unbearably erotic and romantic. I love it.

And that cliffhanger. What up 212, indeed. I predict trouble. Jim has to rush to his parents, and Pam will take everything the wrong way and... I can't wait to read more!

Author's Response: Thanks so much!  I think it's often the case that the times when nothing happens are the hottest.  All the build up of that sexual energy with no place to go ... yet.  OK, don't get excited here.  I'm still not sure I can pull off full out smut.

VB, this was AWESOME!  I'm breathless!  Jim's mental checklist?  Brilliant!  It was so sensual, it might as well have been sex!  Hoping you can help a sister out and continue with this so I can breath again, k?  ; )  I am dying to know what happens next.  These two are in quite a pickle!  : D

Author's Response: Thank you!  I had fun writing this one!  Next chapter will be up within a week.  I'M MAKING A COMMITMENT HERE!  And one must keep promises made to NanReg, right?

Heh - so much for not touching her Jim!

I can't believe you left it on a cliffhanger! Well I know there's no real doubt over will happen with him and Karen, but you just made the wait for an update even more unbearable!!!

I always squeal for joy when I see you've updated VB and as much as my neighbors hate it, I love squealing ;) Congrats on the new job and thank you so much for not forgetting about this wonderful story.

Author's Response:

Thank YOU for such a nice review!  Hopefully, your wait for an update won't be TOO long.  I've been working on the next chapter all morning.  About half revised now.  If my computer stays up for the whole day – CPU fan is broken and it keeps failing and crashing – I'll have something off to the betas this weekend.

First... Congrats on your new job, hope you love it and find yourself settling in nicely.

Second... Can I please tell you how much I love this story? It honestly gets better and better. I have no idea how you do this, but am always SO excited to see a new chapter, because I know that it'll move along so well.

I love the way they've been waking up at the POB these past AM's. They HAVE to be close, and it is so so sweet.

Karen! Yikes! She must've been like WTF? at Pam's rambling on the phone with her because we know she knows nothing of the situation with Jim's parents because, though he has told Pam differently, he has not called her! I cannot wait to hear how this works out.

Poor Pam, though. Jim has FINALLY had his lightbulb moment, now knowing that Pam loves him, but our poor Pam is still in the dark, no idea about how Jim is feeling. I hope these two chat soon...

Okay, enough of my rambling. Thank you, thank you, thank you for the update. Always looking forward to more!

Author's Response: Oh, no!  Ramble away!  It makes my day!  I'm really glad you enjoyed the chapter so much.  Yeah, poor Karen is not a happy camper right about now. And it's about to get worse...

I was ecstatic to see an update, VB! Totally made my day. As the five hundredth review (damn!), I think you should grant my wish first -- update, STAT. =) Get that boy out of Karen's life and in Pamela's bed, please. ;) I can't wait for them to finally talk.
