ugh, my grief bone.

whenever i'm feeling self-loathing i watch the phone conversation on a loop...this made is so much sadder.

but upside, I listened to that song while I read, and wow...so perfect.

this story is really great

Author's Response: These two are so frustrating...just want to shake the TV and yell "say something!" I'm glad you liked the song. It's one of my favorites and I wrote this chapter listening to it one day a few weeks ago. Glad you like the story :) Thanks for the review!

Oh, Jim. Oh, Pam. So deluded. I had a feeling this part was going to be a wee bit frustrating (in terms of the characters, not the writing) when I read the title of this chapter. But it ends at a very promising place. I can't wait until they start talking either!

Author's Response: I hope I did justice to their motivations, and I hope it came across as realistic and true to how they were behaving. Ah, but happier times are on the way, full of conversation and witty banter. Yay! Thanks for reading :)

Another fabulous chapter! Can't wait to see what's next :)

Author's Response: Thanks, JitC! I'm a sucker for happy endings...

Ooch, ouch, Callisto -- I should have known from the title that this was going to be a little sight-seeing trip through Angstville.

I need me some happy S4 or a proposal to make it all better.  Or maybe just Ch. 5 (Are you free for dinner?)

Author's Response: Yeah, I'm with you, sistah. I miss their witty banter. Time to start talking again!

Despair. That's it exactly. The knowlege that two people, so perfect for each other, are both hurting so much because of so many little things- that's cause for despaire. Thank goodness it doesn't last. Beautiful, beautiful work.

Author's Response: Yeah, even knowing how it ends up, this is hard to write! Thanks for the reviews, nqllisi! Hope you like the rest of it.

This is so good. I love that he practices, so that when the real moment comes that's the wording he uses. I also love Jim calling Roy names- that seems exactly right. This is just so beautifully done.

Author's Response: I wondered how he chose such a specific, can't-go-back kind of phrase. Thanks ;)

Oh, Pam. Such a dangerous game she's playing with herself. People could get hurt. Seriously, you capture that time, that sense that everything was about to bubble over, very, very well here. I'm hooked!

Author's Response: Hey nqllisi. I'm glad you saw it that way too-- a dangerous game. Glad you're enjoying it!

I love this story so far :) I hope you update soon.. This story is fantastic. I totally feel Jim and Pam through your words and I want to keep reading!

Author's Response: Thank you dasani! Chapter four is in the works. I hope to get it up tonight. Glad you're enjoying this, thanks for letting me know!

Woww. That hurt my heart a little =( But it was brilliant.

Author's Response: These two are so good at wounding us. Thanks flonkerton, 'brilliant' is such a nice thing to say! :) Happier times are coming...in a little bit.

Ouch.  You've painted a really vivid picture of that void that must have been after Casino Night.  I can totally see Pam taking home the mustard jar.

Author's Response: Thanks lisahoo. This was surprisingly hard to write. These two and the silence and miscommunication....argh. But at least we know things will get better. Thanks for reading! :)

I was so excited to see a new part of this and you did not disappoint!

That was heartbreaking, Callisto. And very lovely. It was nice getting both of their viewpoints in this part. I see that we're now deep into the S3 angst. You've still got the tone just right.

I'm not generally a big fan of songfic, but you used the lyrics just right. I can really see how they fit with the story. I loved that they're both listening to the same song, and that they both dreamed of the other. It shows that they're still connected, though they're miles apart. Beautiful.

Author's Response: Thanks Blanca! I'm happy you think I've got the tone right. I'll be glad to move on to happier times, I'll admit. But first they both have to act like idiots who won't communicate for a while longer. And I'm glad the song didn't turn you off. I'm hoping it doesn't come off as overly melodramatic. Thanks so much for reading and for the review!

Winner of the squeeze-my-heart-til-it-hurts award:  "But that night I dreamed of her, a vivid memory-dream from last year’s company picnic at Nay Aug park, and when I woke up I held my head in my hands and wept in despair...I’m still here, and nothing has changed."

I <3 you and this story, callisto : )

Author's Response: Glad you're enjoying it, NanReg. :) I haven't written much angsty stuff. It's perversely fun, but one more chapter should work it out of me. Then on to happier days!

I liked it last night and this is even better! Jim's part at the end really added a lot to the piece.

Author's Response: Thanks VB! Your comments were great! When are we gonna see more CC/Gifts?

Wow. This is excellent. I am really enjoying this. Your Jim and Pam ring so true. Boy, these two make me mad. Here I am, even knowing that they eventually will get together and they still manage to anger me when I read the "back in the day" tales. That must mean that this is an exceptionally well-written story. Can't wait for more!

Author's Response: Thank you kgreene! I'm glad you think it rings true. What a lack of communication does to a relationship... and the show has never really satisfied me on why the long, long silence, so it's hard to get in their heads. So, thank you! Happier times are coming...but first...

That was a great chapter. Sometimes I forget how bad it got at one point. I like how this story evolves. Looking forward to the next chapter.

Author's Response: Thanks Pisa. I keep wondering if it's a tad melodramatic. This was really hard to write because it's such a turning point, and I'm finding it's really hard to condense their relationship into seven chapters. But I've got it all mapped out now. Glad you're liking it!

Ahhhh. This was too sweet. The holding pinkies at the end? ADORABLE. And I don't know why but I adored this...

I see it in her.

Author's Response: Hi flonkerton!! Can't you just see him looking for signs in her every gesture? Glad you liked this. Thanks for reading :)

Beautiful.  I loved Jim's inner thought repeating "I'm in love with you." I can imagine he had so many moments like this one where you know he just wanted to tell her.  But you were able to illustrate beautifully that he did tell her, just in a different way.

I love this.  More, please ;)

Author's Response: Thank you kells! That's what I was hoping to convey. I'm glad you liked it! More coming. :)

Wow- I absolutely love this dialog! You're filling in the gaps along the way just perfectly, and it's so rewarding to see snippets of Pam and Jim's relationship away from the office. I too love Pam's reaction, and how it's so obvious she's feeling something, too. All around this is an amazing fic- can't wait for more!

Author's Response: Thanks honeypioneer! I've always liked to think about what happens after work, away from cameras, on the weekends, etc. And I've always been certain that Pam was aware of, if not necessarily admitting to, her feelings. I'm glad you're enjoying it. Thanks for reading! :)

Finally got a chance to read this - I agree with everyone who likes seeing Pam as the crusher, not just the crushee. I think her denial was never as seamless as she liked to believe ;-)  And she always did expect things from him, didn't she? Just not all he wanted to give her...ironic. Especially loved the shopping scene - nicely ordinary and intimate (good callback to Michael's B'day too.) Finally, I had them have a Georgia O'Keefe convo in a fic once too - so, I agree Pam would like her. The implicit sexuality in that choice is interesting - just like there's more beyond Pam's 'delicate flower' exterior. Anyway, enjoying this and looking forward to more!

Author's Response: Hey Colette, I totally agree that Pam was not as oblivious or innocent as she maybe wanted everyone to think. In the FTC she talks about the character in Room With a View being 'torn between passion and convention' -- a nice little parallel to the choice she had to make. Anyway, I'm glad you liked this! I don't remember an O'Keeffe in any of your fics, now I have to go find it. Thanks for reading! :)

I wanted her to expect things from me.

So gorgeous.  Loved this even more than the first chap.

Wonderful yet again. I followed the link to the print and oh, wow, the symbolism. The two matching, bright flowers squished together, completely open, yet not facing each other. I love that. And the delicious S2 angst. You've captured it so well.

Author's Response: Thanks Blanca! And thanks for the rec on the boards. It is a beautiful print, isn't it? I'm glad you're enjoying this. Thanks for reading :)

Oh, Jim, your eyes said 'I love you' all through S1&2.  And it's later than you think...

Author's Response: Yeah... hard times are on the way. Thanks for reading lisahoo!

Oh, I love this! The print really is vibrant and I can see why one would be drawn to it. The complicated relationship between Roy and Jim and Pam is highlighted well here. I can't wait to see what's next!

Author's Response: Thanks JitC! I'm glad you're liking it. :)
