his body couldn't lie. He wanted her more than he could say. Still.

Fantastic. A great reminder of what keeps men honest--their bodies. :) That part of them can't lie; if he wants her, he wants her, and no substitute will really ever take her place.

Well done. Thanks.

It's so interesting to read all the different takes on the aftermath of that call. The ying/yang between Jim's hopefulness that it means something, but fear of letting himself believe it does is very well described here.

"He had the comfort of distance and the wisdom of time to wonder if things really were as he had accepted." - love this, it's very well said.

You've totally sold me on the hope tinged with angst Jim is feeling now. Although hope might not be quite the right word...wistful happiness, maybe?

I loved all the emotions Jim expressed in this chapter. And this line was just perfect - "He'd been sitting on the couch, wavering between wistful hope and wretched despair, for quite some time"

Beautiful, thoughtful piece. Jim's inner voice really matches his body language as he walked out of the office. It's as accurate as I can imagine.

By the way...you yanked out my heart and stomped on it!

Author's Response:

Aww - not what I intended!  And besides, you can tell he loves her - everything's going to be okay in the end.

But that kind of courage came at too high a price.

Ouch. This was a difficult piece to read, because it is so baldly truthful. Beautifully done.

My heart is breaking, oh Jim Halpert!!  I wish that Pam really could read his thoughts, honestly.  I wish she knew how hard it was for him.  I wish she would just do something, damn it.

I really felt this; I could feel this being Jim's reaction to the phone call.  There's that great sense of relief at falling into their old, comfortable relationship, but at the same time, this awful, horrible ache for wanting more - for wanting it all.

Oh, I really liked this.  Great job with his reactions/feelings after The Call.
