Summary:

This is essentially my take on the "unseen" challenge. I've written a couple of these, and I originally thought I'd do one for every episode, but I'm thinking that's too ambitious for me -- especially when someone else has already done it so perfectly. But for what it's worth....

Trick or treat? Ugh, this ripped me (and poor Jim) to shreds. Stupid, stupid Pam.

You have a knack for capturing the infuriating, tantalizing nature of the Jim/Pam dynamic that keeps us all hooked on the show. Your fic feels like the show. Amazing work.

Truer words were never written. No kids for Roy and Pam!

This totally expresses the same haunted, bleak feeling as Jim's "I have no future here" talking head. It's nightmarish from beginning to end. Bravo!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for saying that -- because that's exactly what I'm trying to lead up to!  :o)

Wow. Drunk Pam is really compelling.

Author's Response:

Yay!  She just says the things I think I'd say -- sober -- if I were in her position.  Like, "Yeah, so what the hell are you doing?  How is it that you're getting sexier by the day??"

That's a question I would actually like to pose to John Krasinski myself.  Of course, he'd go all red and embarrassed.  Sigh.

Poor Jim- it's obvious to everyone!

Author's Response: Ah yes, poor Jim.  Isn't it a shame we can't all just make it up to him?  .....What?

You're killing us. Really.

Author's Response: I'm hoping that's a good thing.....?  'Cause there's more where it came from.  I'm watching the JK Without  A Trace episode now, so....yeah, stubbly, angsty, drunk Jim coming soon.  :o)

I love this episode because she totally does seem as smitten with him as he is with her- and you capture that feeling beautifully here. C'mon Pam- he's perfect!

Author's Response: Yay!  ANd yeah - she did seem totally smitten with him in this episode, didn't she?  Some of the looks she gave him....

Very dark, but very effective. The only quibble (which you may be planning to address) is that I'm not sure how their relationship rebounds from this to the easy cameraderie you see at the beginning of Casino Night. There's almost too much out there now. I loved every minute of it, mind you, it's just a question in my mind. I can't wait to see how it plays out!

Author's Response: I am really, really glad you mentioned this, actually -- I should clarify that, while these started out more as a strictly intended-to-be-fairly-realistic type of thing, they've veered way off course into much less plausible stuff.  And it's just because I absolutely cannot help myself!  But yeah, personally I think I veered into totally implausible a long time ago.  For one, if Pam got drunk around him as much as she does -- ?  And all the kisses on the mouth would NOT fly either, not even with the ultra controlled Jim Halpert.  So yeah, you are absolutely right, especially about this one -- way too much out there.  Just pretend.  :o)  Thanks, as always, for the review!

The thing about this show is that underneath how funny it is, there is so much real, raw pain so close to the surface. You've pulled that into the open and made it beautiful. The way that pain has shaped these characters and will continue to shape them is depicted flawlessly. You've brought them both through this with only the barest glimmer of hope to sustain them (Jim, especially), and it turns out to be the only thing strong enough to hold onto.

I don't suppose anything like this is waiting for us in season 3, but I am so glad it exists. Thank you.

Poor Roy. I can very much see his reaction being just like this- and the kind appeal that will be most likely to sway Pam back to him.

Author's Response: Their history together will certainly be really hard for Pam to escape, even if I think they are wrong for each other in many ways.

He looks down at her and she looks up at him, their eyes meeting for the first time in over half a year, everything else slipping away as they return home.

Beautiful. This moment feels entirely real.

So sweet. I always like the getting-together scenarios that have some banter and not all sap (or angst!).  You capture the contrast between the past and the present situations very well; knowing what they overcame to be together makes this struggle even more poignant.

Author's Response: Thank you.  I'm glad thinks so.  I'm trying to strike a balance so that you're all not going...geez.  How depressing.  LOL!
