I love the imagery this story paints. Even though most of it, Pam’s in pain there is so much beauty in it. I look forward to returning to reread this one.

I forgot how much I love this. Angst and bliss and radiant
Author's Response: Thank you, Andastainonmyshirt - always appreciate a second reading!

that was beautiful! i loved how the scarf had such a presence and importance, how it brought the together and then could be replaced by the man himself. great job!
Author's Response: Thanks so much, pamelamorganhalpert - you're not supposed to have a favorite child, but it's always especially gratifying when someone likes this story.

That was beautiful.
Author's Response: Thanks, Hannah. ;-)

This story knocks the breath out of me, it's that perfect. You manage to pack in so much emotion, and everything feels so tangible. From her sadness (and a hint of anger) about his leaving to the roller coaster of emotions after his return to the sinking despair that it wasn't what she hoped for to that beautiful scene in the parking lot (and GOD I would have loved to have seen something like that in the show!) to that beautiful ending that just feels like such a relief because all that misery melts away. Somehow you manage to cram a complete mental catharsis into 3000 words, which seriously impresses the hell out of me.
Author's Response: It's great to hear your reaction to this, because I really wanted that complete arc to come through - but succinctly, by hitting the right emotional notes, rather than belaboring them. I'm not much for complicated plots - as a writer and a reader I tend more towards understated small moments/interactions that pack an emotional wallop (at least that's how I try to write)...so, it's so encouraging when a reviewer says they felt something like that. Now I'm rambling...so, I'll stop. But thanks so much pigeon, for your wonderful comments.

This is so beautiful and slow and poetic.
I love how you take something so complacent like a scarf and make it into a symbol of love and memory.
:)
Author's Response: I like that...'love and memory.' I guess that haiku prompt got me thinking that something really ordinary and personal - like his scarf - would elicit those kind of feelings for Pam. Glad it worked for you - many thanks, JamLover101!

This is just wonderful! Beautiful and perfect! And - "Everything looks brilliant and white" - lovely ending too. Definitely a favourite!
Author's Response: Hooray for being favorite'd! It always makes me happy when someone likes this particular story - and especially the ending. Thanks so much, moonmouse!

This is such a beautiful story. I know it was posted a long time ago but I've read it over and over and the language is just as gorgeous every time. It's absolutely perfect.
Author's Response: Being read over and over is incredibly flattering - really appreciate your telling me. Thanks so much, callisto - so happy this still has resonance for you ;-)

Wow, Colette! I just discovered this one and absolutely loved it... your writing is beautiful! Now, off to read more of your stuff....
Author's Response: Why thank you, wendolf! I'm happy you found this - personal fave of mine. And flattered too ;-)

It’s not a magic scarf at all. It’s just his.
I absolutely loved that bit. And I have no idea why.
Anyway... Brilliant. Again. God, I need to find a new word to describe your fics. "Great" and "Brill" just don't seem to cover it. Well.. you get the idea, I love your fics. :P You write Jim and Pam very well!
Author's Response: I'm glad that bit said something to you. And thanks so much for your kind words, lightbulb...this story is very close to me still. Always touched when someone finds and likes it.

Just reread this for about the fifth time in a row. Masterful, just masterful. This is absolutely one of the best things I have ever read here.
I just love the last two paragraphs. The second to last is lyrical and the last is so crisp.
Afterwards, and before again, he holds her hand and holds her and she knows she doesn’t have to do crazy things anymore like wear wool scarves in August. Because he came back and he tells her he loves her and he loves her and he loves her.
First morning light is beginning to sneak into the room by the time they finally succumb to sleep. As she drifts away, her head lying on his chest (not on the scarf,) she can see out her bedroom window. It’s been snowing. Everything looks brilliant and white.
Author's Response: Wow. I'm so flattered that you read this so many times. And by your incredibly generous comments. To be honest, I think this story is my personal favorite (amongst both the fanfic and non-fanfic ones I've written.) I usually cringe re-reading my older fics - this is the rare exception, lol. I really did consider every word here, so it's especially meaningful that you felt so strongly about it and found it now. Thank you so much, Vampiric Blood. Much appreciated.

This is an absolutely GORGEOUS story! You show the emotions so well. What control of language! It's just perfect.
Author's Response: Thank you so much, Vampiric Blood. The use of language is something I really work at when I write, so hearing that comes through means a lot ;-)

Beautiful. Just...beautiful. Love. :o)
Author's Response: Thank you so much, MoraDae. So lovely to hear!

I decided to reread an old favorite tonight. One of my favorite things about your writing is that it bears rereading well. This is still as beautiful as the first time I read it, and your story structure is wonderfully subtle, but powerful. Comparisons of wool and stubble; that she takes what she can in thinking that his mouth may have grazed the scarf - being kissed via inanimate third party, that stabs my heart every time.
Really, just lovely
Author's Response: Wow, what a lovely thing to say. This story is still very close to my heart and it really means a lot that you took the time to reread and review it. I'm so flattered. I thought about the scarf in a very tactile way while I was writing, so I'm really pleased if that resonates. Your 'read' on Pam here is precisely what I hoped would come across. Thanks so very much, Geinnob.

That was AMAZING! wow. That was incredibly beautifully written. I love after the kiss Jim says"Invite me over" and Pam replys "I love you." I just loved that. This is an amazing oneshot! great job.
Author's Response: Thanks so much for this generous review, Mad Hatter. So glad it worked so well for you - this one is kind of special to me, so that means alot.

Just found this one, and I wanted to tell you that it was so moving that I cried. Loved it.
Author's Response: Sorry to make you cry, but I'm so happy you liked it. Wrote this one a while ago, so it's also nice to know it's still getting read! Thanks so much, downtown.

Oh. My. God. Well, I'm sorry, but I have to marry this story. That's really the only solution. Holy...yeah. Awesome. So, so fabulous. I'm bereft now that it's over. This is so what should happen for reals.
This line killed me: She wants to scream that he just has to say the word, but he might have a whole new vocabulary now.
And this? Perfection:
‘Invite me over,’ he whispers.
‘I’m in love with you,’ she replies.
Author's Response: Wow. Thank you so much, invis. Have to say, this one is close to my heart, so I'm especially glad it worked for you. And if there's anything I can do to help with the wedding plans, don't hesitate to ask. Would hate to leave you bereft. Thanks again for the wonderful comments!

Colette, this is the first time a story has actually brought physical, actual tears to my eyes. Thank you. I don't even know where to start with my praise of this story.
I'll start with the wonderful, secret sensuality of Pam not only making scarf-sniffing a ritual, but sleeping with a scarf that has touched that mouth, that cheek, that man. Her draping herself in his scarf at night is one of the most erotic things I've ever read.
Then the scarf becomes a noose--what a brilliant transition and symbol and metaphor all at once. The scarf, like her unsaid love, is strangling her. YES.
Thank you for putting their reconciliation IN THE PARKING LOT. Thank you, thank you. What a lovely scene that is:
He might be stunned, but he doesn’t hesitate. He just opens his mouth over hers and lets it be real.
Their brief exchange, non sequiturs and all, is so THEM, so real, so full of the depth and unsaid connection between them, like so much of their communication--just breathtaking, Colette.
And finally, you bring the metaphor of the scarf full circle by turning Jim himself into cashmere and wool, touching her in the same places his scarf did. That next to last paragraph is one of the most loving, sweet, sexy paragraphs you've ever written.
You so absolutely own me, woman. I love this story. I love this story. Did I mention I love this story? Thank you.
Author's Response:
Actual tears? Now you're going to make me cry!
So glad you picked up on the noose idea - tried not too hit that note too melodramatically, but wanted it to convey exactly what you said. Just when she thinks her loss is final (the other one) - but still can't let go, even as she knows how self-destructive it is. Anyway, I'm thrilled that you liked this and especially that you thought it really felt like them (throw erotic and sensual into the mix, and my job is done!) Thanks, NEJ, as always, for such a detailed review!
Author's Response: Me again - forgot to mention...secret sensuality. What a perfect phrase. May have to borrow it....

Oh, that whole piece was just lovely. And Pam's non sequitur was perfectly placed.
Author's Response: That's clever - a well placed non-sequitur! Thanks, Semby, glad it worked for you!

Loved it. So much. Beautiful writing.
Author's Response: Well, thank you so much!

Love the 'awkward teenage girl with a secret crush' feeling of this. Nice twist on the scarf inspiration ;o)
Author's Response: Why thanks, lisahoo (or should I say mommyhoo?) In some ways Pam is still like a teenage girl, I guess. And yeah, there was something oddly inspiring to me about that scarf...glad you liked and thanks for the review (and happy baby again!)
Date: February 05, 2007 12:24 pm Title: Chapter 1
ok, wow. i'm glad you made an exception in this case and responded to a challenge cuz this is just...wow.
‘Invite me over,’ he whispers.
um, i think my knees actually buckled. and i am sitting down!
Author's Response: I'm glad I did it too, super_perfect. And I'm pleased to have made your knees buckle! Thanks for the lovely review.

Wait, how is it that I didn't review this before? (or did I and just don't remember?)
hmm...might be because my head is fuzzy due to the medication.
Anyway, this story was incredible. I don't know what it is about Jam writers that just seem to be able to nail heartache so well. And you do. So well.
also, I like that the idea of taking the scarf because it's his is just so Pam. It's understated and just a very intimate gesture.
Well, anyway, this story is just wonderful. *adds to favs*
Thanks so much.
cheers.
--Lex
Author's Response: Thank you, Lex. Honored to be a fave! And I'm really glad that it felt intimate, because that's exactly how I imagined it.
