I love this, and you know that, but but but it's just...so yes and wonderful and tying my stomach up in knots. I can feel Pam here, just...her conflicted everything and unable to give anyone what they really want b/c she's not sure what SHE wants yet. Or needs.
And RYAN. Oh GOD. Calling in the middle of the night, he's not Jim but does he really need to be? And they've got that effortless thing together, it's ineffable...but at the same time Pam has to find out whatever she needs to with Jim and herself.

I just caught up on this story over the weekend, and absolutely devoured it -- I love seeing the characters and their relationships shaken up, and the cruise ship scenes were such a great mix of hilarious and dramatic. (And HOT.) I'm definitely pulling for Ryan/Pam at this point, though there are a lot of loose ends to be resolved first, of course, just the way I like it.
The only quibble I have is that in the last few chapters, I feel like Pam's characterization is getting somewhat opaque -- I'm not sure what's going on in her head, how she feels about Ryan or Jim's renewed attentions, etc. I know she's confused, but I feel like I'm not getting much at all, especially since the last two sex scenes with Ryan were skipped over pretty quickly, so I'm not quite sure what Pam's (or Ryan's) emotional reactions were. Not that I'm demanding more porn, just hoping for some more insight on what the characters are thinking and feeling so I can get into the story more deeply, like in the earlier chapters.
Looking forward to what happens next!
Author's Response: Hmm, this definitely gave me a lot to think about, so thank you! I think I've been writing Pam deliberately at least somewhat opaque because (in my head) she's avoiding thinking about the entire situation, like she's just trying to get through it because she's afraid of how she'll feel if she actually stops and thinks about what's happening, so that's kind of the feel I was going for, but I didn't think about how that might come across as confusing. Thanks!

I like this chapter a lot. Well first I should say that I got all giddy when I saw an update! *squee* Ok, back to the review. I liked that Pam was able to put into perspective the fling with Ryan, though I felt bad for him after being rejected by Kelly and Pam. Poor guy.
But...Jim at his old desk, hatching prank plans, catching Pam's eye throughout the day...it feels like old times, good times, but Karen is still in the mix. And even *I* feel bad about that. Well, not bad enough to want Jim to stay with her... let's not get crazy here.
Great update to a really original fic. More, please!

This a great story ... I love that Ryan totally understands and "gets" Pam. You have brainwashed me into seeing Ryan in a different light. And the picture of the three was priceless.

I have been reading fics for a while now and this is the first I am ever reviewing. I love all the Jam interaction but i cannot get past this Ryan thing. I just keep reading, hoping this will be the chapter that finally gets Ryan out of the picture...but then this middle of the night booty call thing. UUUUHHHHGGGG. You are a good writer though, even if I hate the content:-) And I must admit I am anxious for another chapter:-P
