I like this. I didn't expect to, because Roy has always reminded me more of Kittredge and Jim of CK. But I see your comparison and I liked what you did with it.

This was such a lovely story...and it's really realistic and true to both characters, which I love. Thank you for writing it :)
Author's Response: I'm so glad you liked it! Thanks!

"And it still hits you sometimes that he's yours, and he may worship you, but you're pretty sure that if you could you would start a religion based on Jim, and be its founding and only member. And so it's okay."
Lovely story.
Author's Response: Thanks! I would totally start a religion based on Jim.

Oh, love this. Love the connection to Gatsby, love Pam's very believable fears.
When I read this line, Not the Pam who snored sometimes, or kicked in her sleep. Not the Pam who couldn't keep a plant alive to save her life, or the Pam that was capable of screwing up no-bake cheesecake. I found myself thinking, "aw, but I bet Jim loves all that about her!" so it was really nice to see him immediately affirm that without her really having to press, totally getting what she was thinking just from her explanation of the book.
Author's Response: Thanks! I thought that Jim would be super in tune with Pam and be able to just get her. That's what I absolutely love about them. I'm so glad you liked it!

Oh man, it's so cool my fic inspired yours! It's totally interesting to see that idea of Jim idealizing Pam, but from the perspective of season 4, when they could hopefully overcome it. Awesome!
Author's Response:
Yes! It totally did! I like immediately got The Philadelphia Story from Netflix because I forgot how much I loved that movie, and that line about wanting to be loved struck me as being 1)brilliant and 2) begging a story to written about it. So thank you so much!

Ok, this is brilliant -- I mean just so you know. You may already know. lol. I don't think this issue has ever been addressed. Of COURSE Jim would have an idealized vision of Pam to some degree. But I did like the moment that he pointed out that it was somewhat shot to hell at Casino Night. lol. This was just all kinds of great! It's getting favorite right...this...instant....There.
Author's Response: Well, I had a feeling, but I didn't know exactly. I figured that there had to be a part of Jim that mildly worshipped Pam, and that had to be mildly unsettling for Pam, and I ran with it. I'm so glad you enjoyed it! Thanks!

This is lovely. Just a really beautiful and believable assessment of their relationship. Thanks so much for sharing it with us.
Author's Response: Thank you! I'm glad you liked it!

.... wow. I totally adore this. I don't think I've ever seen anyone address the fact that Jim is way, way into Pam, and even though she loves him just as much she doesn't have the same idealized vision of him because of what she went through in S3. Fantastic work.
Author's Response: It's always been my favorite part of Gatsby, that he was so in love with the idea of Daisy, and it struck me that the same could be said about Jim and Pam. Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!

This is really, really good! I loved how you built the tension throughout the story. At the end I was left with a smile and feeling very hopeful for these two. I also loved how Jim called Pam, 'Bees.' The whole thing was just very realistic and so well done. Great work.
Author's Response:
I'm glad you thought the ending was hopeful, that's definitely what I was going for. I'm so glad you liked it!

Beautiful. I love The Great Gatsby, and you wove it in brilliantly.
Author's Response: Thanks! I'm glad you liked it! It's one of my all time favorite books.

This is absolutely gorgeous. Just really, really lovely. Awesome job.

Great story and fab parallel to Gatsby. I could totally see how it would be hard for Pam to be with Jim, knowing how long he's wanted her.
Author's Response: I can't imagine how you would react to someone being that in love with you for years, it would be really surreal. I'm glad you enjoyed it!

Oh this is beautiful. I can totally see this being an issue for them and you played it out so perfectly. Jim's little speech about why he loves Pam was just spot on. Absolutely fantastic :)
Author's Response: It would be really nice if someone made a speech like that about me *sigh* I thought it sounded like something Jim would say. I'm glad you liked it!
Date: January 27, 2008 09:06 am Title: Chapter 1
I can definitely see how this could be an issue between the two of them and you played it out nicely. Great job!
Author's Response: Thanks! I'm glad you liked it!

Ooh, this is really nice. Pam's insecurity and her misdirected frustration and Jim being so wonderfully Jim. I love the Gatsby comparison, but more than that I think I love that they're just...fighting, like a real couple, but it's not the end of the world. Very nice.
Author's Response: Oh Jim. He's marvelous. I've had these kind of ridiculous fights where they are about way more than you are actually fighting about, and I figured Jim and Pam probably did too. I'm so glad you liked it!

Wow. I mean...just, wow. I definitely fall down on the "like it a lot" side of things. The PHiladelphia Story is one of my favorite movies of all time (making a mental note to check out Annakovsky's story), and the Great Gatsby is right up there with my favorite books!
This story is so quiet in it's intensity...like the GG, there's something so brilliant working underneath the surface, and it really allows such a seemingly silly fight to be about so much more.
I've never thought about Jim and Pam's relationship in comparison to Gatsby and Daisy before, but it make a lot of sense. As I write this, part of me thinks that had they gotten together before Casino Night, or on Casino Night as the case may be, Pam could have very easily turned into Jim's Daisy. But because he saw her topple of the pedestal he'd put her and allowed her to become wonderfully human, they're allowed a true chance at being together.
So, in conclusion, two things:
1. I absolutely loved this story.
2. I'm going to go dig up my old copy of Gatsby and reread!
Author's Response: I know! I made myself want to reread it. It's one of my favorite books, and the Daisy/Gatsby relationship is one of my all time favorite dysfunctional relationships. I think you're absolutely right, Pam had to sort of fall from grace in order for Jim to see her as flawed and not expect some ridiculous standard that she couldn't live up to. I'm so glad you liked it!

What a great little story. Exactly the pick-me-up I need to start my day of homework doing. So thank you very much for that!

I'm just awful at telling people why I love their stories, (which is also why I don't write them), so forgive me if I ramble. This is such a fresh idea. I'd never really thought about Pam feeling that way, but wow, it makes perfect sense. You did a perfect job with the dialogue, and the inner dialogue as well. This story was touching al the way through, but I flat out bawled when Jim was telling Pam why he loved her. I had to stop reading for a bit......anyway, you write beautifully, and please, please, continue.
Author's Response: I'm glad you liked it! You did a fine job telling me what you thought! Rambling is always fine, I do it as much as I can. Thanks for reading!

Well, I don't know why you'd hate this... I loved it. I liked that the fight was mostly about miscommunication and was actually kinda passive-aggressive. It seems that that would be their style. Loved all of Jim's reasons for loving Pam, too.
Oh, and count me as the third person who loves Great Gatsby.
Author's Response: I loved it the more I reread it. I'm glad you loved it too! I am the queen of passive-aggressive, and I think that Pam is like me in many ways. Thanks for reading!

Here I thought I was the only person alive who liked "The Great Gatsby." I love the line "You aren't Daisey, and he's not Gatsby, and it'll be okay"
Author's Response: You are definitely not alone. I love that book. That was one of my favorite lines too! Thanks for reading!
Date: January 26, 2008 09:11 pm Title: Chapter 1
Love this. It's so real. It would be completely normal for Pam to worry about this, to worry about never living up to the fantasies Jim had about her for years.
I love Great Gatsby. It's one of my favorite books ever.
Great job!
Author's Response:
Thanks! I've loved the book since I had to read it in high school, my English teacher told us that some books are like candy bars, and some are like gummy worms, and Gatsby is like a giant banana split with a ton of toppings and a cherry on the top and a slice of cake on the side. She was absolutely right. I'm so glad you liked it!

What a sweet story! And I can see Pam feeling this way. I mean, to have someone admire you from sort of afar for so long . . . what if the actual 'you' isn't enough? Wonderfully done.
Author's Response: Thanks! If I was Pam it would certainly be something I would worry about. I'm glad you liked it!
Date: January 26, 2008 09:05 pm Title: Chapter 1
Ooh, I really like how you addressed the issue of Jim idealizing Pam. Because I can see how that would be dangerous ground, and it is important to allow the person you are in love with to be a real person and accept that if you're going to last. Nicely done.
Author's Response: Thanks! I'm so glad you liked it! Yeah, idealizing anyone is really dangerous. I figured it was something that Pam might worry about, after all Jim fantasized about her for years.
