Adorable and funny! I could totally relate. When I was around 7 I actually sobbed until my dad shaved off some hideous mutton chops he had grown. My mom thanked me later for being her ace in the hole. :-)

This was cute! I'm sending good thoughts to you and your neighbors who were affected by Ike. I hope by now you have power and that things are starting to get back to normal for you.

Very cute. Yeah, the beard is not a good look for him, IMO. Good thoughts coming your way!

I'm currently reading/reviewing this on my blackberry because I'm trapped in NW H-town without power too. Needless to say, between finally getting gas, going to Costco and reading stories at this site, its finally starting to feel like normal. I hope you either get a generator or even better, power soon. Thanks for the pick me up!

Aww that was great. And I totally agree with Pam, JK with a beard is horrible.

Sending you good vibes, PPC! I hope you get back on your feet soon.
This story amused me greatly because my hubby just recently grew a beard for the first time since I've known him (which is a looong time). It's kind of bizarre. But it made me like this even more.

I loved it, that was sooo good. I can seriously see Pam's reaction at his beard lol. I hope you write more, like likes your writing =)
Good luck, hope you get your power back soon :(

I loved the baby's reaction, because I had a very similar one when I was a kid, except it was when my dad shaved OFF his beard. I'd never seen him without a beard before, and one day when I was about 4, he came home, and he had no beard, and I totally flipped out.
Good luck recovering from the hurricane.

Hee. They are cute torturing each other. But worse than the beard was the scraggly hair. Eek!

This was cute! I actually had the SAME thing happen to me. "Mr. Mint" was gone for 4 months though, not a week. He apparently decided to "surprise" me with a hideous beard. I was dressed up, looking my best, ready to jump him when I saw him at the airport...and here comes this...thing. He also apparently didn't consider trimming it, so it was protruding a bit too. Frizzy, reddish, ugh. Fortunately he hated it too (itchy) and was looking forward to shaving it off after he "surprised" me. I tried to be nice but...God it was ugly. What a horribly unpleasant way to dash a person's reunion fantasies.
Sorry to hear of your troubles - hang in there as we are all rooting for you and your neighbors.

Super, super cute. Had me smiling as I read it on my way into the office this morning. Good stuff! :) And best of luck with everything.

Oh holy God, what is that?
I laughed out loud- which pretty much set the tone for the rest of the story. Going without shaving sounds like a very Jim-ish thing to do- laid back and bordering on slacker :) (and considering how fast he seems to get five o'clock shadow, I'm thinking it wouldn't take long to get a substantial beard).
Great cookie detail. And they're totally being themselves with teasing each other over the beard. Thinking of you and others, sending good thoughts your way.

This was so cute! I had a smile on my face throughout. Great banter between the two and her inner struggle was hilarious!
Beering you strength to get through the stress and trouble the Hurricane has caused.

Aw man, I'm in the minority that loves "the JK beard" so I think Pam should have been a little easier on poor Jim.
Fun story though! Loved the cookie bribing dad, very believeable.

I'm really really glad you had Pam "win". Great story. Thanks for sharing it!

I like all your changes, PPC! :)
This is a really good image: "Jim and I had gotten into bed like brothers at a hotel." Ha!

Aww, very cute!
Good luck with everything. Everyone displaced by the hurricane is in my thoughts.

I just went through Gustav, so I definitely feel your pain. Sending good thoughts your way! This was a great story, I'm so glad Jim caved. JK with a beard isn't so bad, but JK without one is so much better! Great job!

Loved this little story, PPC. Thanks so much for posting despite all you're going through. Sending you lots of happy thoughts and a virtual hug.

Heeeee. Oh that was such good fun. I loved how Pam simply could not hold back her reaction when she first saw him and the later scene where she accused Jim of bribing their daughter with cookies. Altogether, you really gave such a lovely, fun look at their future and their family and their final moments together in the story were understated and well done.
