I love the little moments of friendship between Pam and Karen, and the idea that Karen could give her this really helpful (and as it turns out very true) advice when she really needed it is kinda wonderful.

This is lovely. I’ve always loved the thought of fleshing out Pam as Erin’s surrogate big sister/life mentor. You did a nice job with that. Oh! And I love how Karen’s role and advice came full circle. Thanks for this!

Thank you for this. You probably won't even see this review, but if you do, know that someone was, with a birthday approaching in a few days, having a really rough time, and this helped.

Just re-read this and I have to say again how beautiful it is. Such a lovely sentiment and it's so lovely the way Karen shares with Pam and Pam shares with Erin.

Nice bookending here. So glad to see something new from you. When I saw your name on the list that Ann had of confirmed writers, I was quite excited. You didn't disappoint! Come back and visit us again (with something new, if that wasn't obvious). ;)

Beautiful story, and one that I can relate to. Never would have thought that Pam could have such a meaningful conversation with either Karen or Erin, but it was perfect in the context of this story and so well written. Loved it!

One of my two all time favorite writers has visited once again and I'm in heaven! You capture Pam's memory wonderfully. Her talk with Karen isn't overdone, but flows smoothly. And any story with Karen adding hurt with everything working out in the end is amazing! Thank you for your loveliness!

Pam's empathy...shining through. And, as always, the way you put words together...perfection:
"And when Pam's birthday comes around she’s happy to turn another year older. She’s happy to have whipped peas staining the front of her shirt. She’s happy to have large hands against her shoulders and the smell of him on her t-shirts. She’s happy to be older, with a pillow on the sofa that says “Home Sweet Home” and a bib in the laundry that says “Nobody Puts a Baby in the corner” and her peace of mind standing six feet tall in the kitchen, making coffee.
She’s happy to be one year older and she doesn’t envy other women anymore…
Because countless things can happen in a year."
Countless wonderful things can happen in only a year.

Kate, this makes me blissfully happy. What a seriously great idea. It's like you never left, my friend.
This image is just priceless: Pam had glared at her in the mirror...Karen had offered a sheepish smile and ducked into a stall and Pam had tried to hold her breath, standing at the sink and clenching her jaw.
There’s a passive aggressive streak to almost all human beings when it is their birthday and nobody cares...People get angry and upset and refuse to participate in normal human interaction and refuse to simply stand up and announce that they are now a year older and everybody sucks. LOL--so true! I can think of two particular occasions when this happened to me. One time it was my own mom!
Thank you again, darling. You know you can visit any time you like. Give me advance notice, and I'll make lunch ; ) xo

That was beautiful. I love the seamless transition from the past to present and how it went from Pam's sadness to happiness and then the same for Erin as well. And Karen's advice? I almost want to tolerate her for a second... nah, that would be too nice. Anyways, this was fantastic, and you certainly don't seem rusty to me. I hope you'll write something new soon!

This is just lovely. And very similar to the way I feel when watching older episodes of TO because who would've thought that Jim and Pam are married with a daughter.
I like how it was Karen who gave Pam that little piece of wisdom. Ironic at the same time though. And of course, I love how Pam used that to comfort Erin (very similar to a scene in a recent episode).
Thanks for sharing.

Wonderful. I loved Pam's pay it forward moment...and who knew Karen could have had some words of wisdom back then. Ugh, SO nice to read something of yours again Stablergirl! This fandom misses you like crazy...just so you know. :-)

It is fantastic reading one amazing story after another here! I've always enjoyed everything you write and this is no exception. I love the circular nature of the the story and the "Pay it Forward" theme. Very well done.

A sweet, sweet story. It captures season 3 Pam and Karen so well. And a real bullseye with the offhand observation about Erin's issues.

Oooooooooh, I loved how you had Pam use Karen's mom's words of wisdom to Erin. I found that really sweet and touching, and something Pam would totally do.
Loved this, and loved seeing something from you.

This is simply beautiful. Because we know Karen was OK, really, and that she and Pam could have been friends if they didn't have one particular thing in common, and that Pam is kind (and so is Erin). Lovely, lovely.

is it wrong that i'm going to start using karen's mother's advice? lovely story. sometimes when i'm rewatching the angst that is season 3, i just want to whisper into pam's ear "just wait til next year." i love that your fic did just that. thanks!

This is so sweet! I love the line "her peace of mind is 6 feet tall standing in the kitchen making coffee."

What a nice reflection back on what was such a hard time for Pam. Knowing where she is now makes it all worth while. You made me even like Erin in this one. No easy feat!

Oh, I loved Kind!Pam. Very nice turnaround using Karen and Erin as bookends. Well done. What a difference a year can make...

What a great present! Nan is very lucky to have you as a friend. The advice is really good, plus I like that Karen helped Pam, I've always felt kinda bad for Karen. My favorite part is "and her peace of mind standing six feet tall in the kitchen, making coffee." It's just so cute!
