You know what I love about your writing?  I can picture everything so vividly - you are amazing with the little details.  I read your stories over and over because the details really make them so great!  I loved it!

Author's Response:

Oh - thanks so much!  That's something that I really try to work on - envisioning the scene in my mind before I write it.  I'm glad you like it!

Thanks for the review!

Yay for happy Jam!  I loved the end of the chapter.  So sweet and just swoon-worthy.  I'm glad you decided to continue the story and I laugh knowing that you had such (awful) intentions of keeping it to, what... 4 chapters? muhahaha.  My evil plan is complete. Cheers! Here's to another amazing chapter...

Author's Response:

I know - you'd think I'd have learned by now to quit declaring that a story will be only a few chapters long.  In re-reading "Only" I had to laugh because round about chapter fifteen or so, I started saying, "I'll be wrapping this up soon...."  And then thirty chapters later...

Thanks, as always, for reviewing!

his sleeves rolled up in a way that struck her as oddly sexual

Preach it sister!!!

I wish I could say more...but all I can say is I can't wait to read what's next. :0)

Author's Response:

Can I get an amen?  Heh.  So I miss the rolled up sleeves and the forearms this season (well, among other things).  Sigh.

Looking so forward to your latest - thanks for reviewing!

I love the splinter story.

When (it better be when, and not if) they get together "for realsies", I could see them being blissfully and intensely overwhelmed like this.

I always vote for more chapters.  And steam.  Or smut.  I'm easy (that's what she said! Or I said!)

Author's Response:

I just hope that when they get together (and oh yes, it'll be when - G. Daniels will have a mutiny on his hands otherwise), we get to see something like this - a date, away from the office.  How they'd justify that within the documentary conceit, I don't know...but they could find a way, right?

Thanks for reviewing!

i loved that splinter story. it like, made my heart ache cause it was just so sweet.

And they both sounded like they would just have a simple sexiness about them. it was great.

but the office is on (okay, dvd), and so that is all :)

Author's Response:

You know, that splinter story just popped out of nowhere when I was editing the thing; it wasn't even in the first draft, which is weird.  But I could just so see him doing that for her.  Sigh.  (BTW: When I read your review, I almost (irrationally) had a heart attack, thinking a) oh my god, why is the show on now??? and b) oh my god - is it a new episode on a special night??  Sad, I know.  :o)

Thanks, as always, for reviewing!

I'm holding my reviews hostage until this story is finished.

Author's Response:

Heh, beetfarm...though seriously, that's an effectively strategic move.  Wow...I grudgingly bow before you.  :o)

Two more chapters, my friend (translated: sixty-seven).

Thanks for the review!

Great chapter, as always. I really like that we're seeing the fallout of their decision. So many fics have Karen conveniently transferring immediately post-breakup and Roy never coming out of the warehouse again, and Jim and Pam blissfully happy forevah (and I love those stories too) but it's good to also see the very real consequences of all of their decisions.

I loved their matching heartbeats in the elevator...you built very effective tension in the weeks prior to the elevator ride, so much so that I was almost holding my breath as they gazed at each other.

Can't wait to read what you have in mind for the final chapter, though I'll be sad to see this story end.

Author's Response:

You know, it's interesting that you commented on seeing the fallout; I'm guilty of transferring Karen immediately after it all blows up in previous fics ("Off you go - here, have a nice ham as a consolation prize...."), but in this one, I did want to do something different (for me, anyway).  It also would give Pam and Jim more incentive to keep things quiet as well.

I'm really glad you found the elevator scene effective, too.  Thanks so much for reviewing!

Yummy, yummy tension. And I like how you kept things at work very awkward, because, yeah, they would be. And go Phiyllis! I especially love the line about how blushing made her blush. So cute! I totally did that today at Starbucks in front of a cute boy!

Author's Response:

Isn't blushing the worst?  And I blush all the way up - from collarbone to neck to face.  It's really annoying at times, particularly when you're trying not to show that you're embarrassed (or crushing, as in your case at Starbucks - hee!).

Thanks for reviewing!

aksjhjdsa;skldj!!!!!!!!!

I'm kinda glad that you didn't make Roy a complete asshole. And I like that you made him seem confused. Because, dammit, the poor guy probably is.

And Kelly. Oh Kelly.

And THANK YOU for a non-parking-lot....anything. Elevators moving three floors in a two floor building is AWESOME (props to you for artistic license w/ the whole Vance Refrigeration thing). Phyllis!! I honestly think that she might be the biggest Jim (and Jim/Pam) fan out there.

WOO!! Cannot wait for Cooking in Chateux d'Halpert. Chef Jim! Does he have one of those aprons that say Kiss the Cook? Pam should totally buy him one just as a joke. Oh, it should say "real men do dishes" or "dude with the food" (I've seen people wear these). Google!!!!

hee.
cheers.
--Lex

Author's Response:

Yeah, as I keep saying - I really prefer Roy when he's a more sympathetic character than a great big oaf.  Heh - yay for the absence of the parking lot!

Your apron speculation had me laughing (especially "Dude with the food" because I've never heard that one before).  Glad you're looking forward to the cooking section...because I've been sort of planning it in my head all day long and actually found myself looking forward to it - as if I'm going to Jim Halpert's for dinner or something.  Sad, so sad.

Thanks for reviewing!

Ooooh.  This is interesting.  I'm intrigued by the fact that Pam goes to talk Roy out of not going after Jim.  I guess I wonder whether he'll stick to his word or not?  And that scene in the office?  I think I covered my eyes a few times.  I watched "The Secret" today (one of my favorite episodes) and it reminded me of how ridiculous these things become once word gets around.  I think you helped capture that sense of awkwardness that happens when a rumor breaks loose.

Anyway, I'm guessing we're gonna bring on a little smut soon?  I know you won't let us down.  We have so very little!

Author's Response:

I'll take it as a compliment that you found it cringe-inducing.  :o)  Yeah, I'll be bringing on some steam at least and maybe smut - these things get away from me sometimes.... :o)

Thanks for reviewing!

Squeeee! Wow. You write UST like no one else. You could cut that sexual tension with a knife! Amazing!

And I like that Roy was reasonable here. I mean, knowing him he might go back on his promise later, but I sort of like the idea that he respects Pam's wishes here.

Author's Response:

Oh wow - thanks so much!  I enjoy writing the steamy stuff more than the smut, because so many people around here write excellent smut (which is a pejorative term, so I shouldn't use it, I guesss...).  Glad that you also liked Roy - I'm not planning on having him go back on his word, because I prefer my Roy to be sweeter and humbler.  Doggone it.  :o)

The first thing that came to mind when Pam was confronting Roy was "We were on a break!" lol

I absolutely loved the elevator scene.  It was so much like the scene where they shared the quiet smile together in season 2 in the elevator.  Also you totally have Kelly pegged.  Girlfriend is hilarious. And annoying. Loving it!!

Author's Response:

Hah - that's hilarious!  Ohhh, the elevator scene you mention in season 2 is one of my favorite images of those two - so, so sweet, yet so poignant and sad all at the same time.  I wonder if Jenna and John just exhaled loudly once the doors closed, because it struck me as such an emotional scene.

Thanks for reviewing!

Luvvvv it.  Wow, that was good.  You can really write.  Realistic, well conceived, well paced, suspenseful.  Great job.  Thank you.

Author's Response: Wow - thank you so much.  I'm glad to hear positive comments about the realism and the pacing, because I was concerned about both.  Thanks for reviewing!

Great googly moogly.  "Never would she have imagined the effect that just prolonged eye contact with him could have."  Never would I have imagined that two people riding in an elevator, not even touching each other could be so steamy.  Yowsa.  I will be so sad to see this end.

And nice work with Pam/Roy -- writing Roy to still have a bit of decency in him after the bar smash-up.

Author's Response:

Hah - love your opening exclamation!  Yeah, the eye contact thing....I remember after my first date with my husband, I called my best friend and squeed, "OMG...he totally gets the secret of eye contact..."  It really does tell a lot, and particularly with these two, I can imagine that once they're both free (and they WILL be, damn it), the tension will rachet right through the roof.  And yeah, I like decent Roy much better than actionman Roy.  :o)

Thanks for reviewing!  Hope Miss Halpertina Hoobaby is doing well!

"I'm saying that I don't want this to turn into something awful and bitter and - I'm saying that I don't want us to have to hate each other...because that would just be such a waste." - this is the first time I've read a fic where this issue is brought up, and I'm digging the absolute maturity of it. It's a nice way to leave out the ugliness, and it's just so realistic!

Author's Response:

Oh, I'm so glad it rings true for you.  I hadn't written anything (obviously) before Roy's big blow up, so my frame of reference was the sweet, humble, slightly pleading Roy we'd seen up until Cocktails.  But even though we've seen him make a royal ass of himself, I'd still like it if they would bring him and Pam to a place in which they can at least be civil to each other.  Grr.

Thanks, as always, for reviewing!

girl7, this is all kinds of good. I love the Kelly and Kevin contributions to the already awkward vibe on Monday morning.

I also really like the couple of weeks dancing around each other in the office after Jim and Karen have broken up.  A bit of letting the dust settle before starting the new relationship.

I look forward to the final chapter (but don't apologize if the final is really 2 finals - we would never complain about too many chapters, girl7).

Author's Response:

Hee - I'm hoping (against my better judgement, actually) that we get to see some immediate fall out from the Big Bar Bust Up of '07 - because I imagine Kelly and Kevin would have much to say on the matter.  :o) Glad to hear that you like the pacing here - as I wrote in my previous review response, I'm inclined to think that they probably would take it at least a little slower...

Thanks for reviewing!

"...he was her past made tangible."  I mean, if I wrote that line, I would be so proud of myself that I would cross stich that on a pillow.  That is an awesome line, it just really stood out to me.  I am so proud of Jim and Pam (yes, I know, two fictional characters, but still...) for taking it slow, letting things simmer a bit.  They will be better for it, that's for sure.  Phyllis rocks, as per usual.  And I love how just looking at Jim makes Pam weak in the knees.  Very steamy!!  Great chapter!

Author's Response:

I read your review very late last night, when I was all drowsy and half asleep - and I just cackled out loud at the cross stich comment (mainly because I imagined my husband coming home to find a pillow on our bed that says "her past made tangible" and the WTF? face I'd probably get).  I'm glad you like the pacing here; I've run the gamut in my stuff from them taking it incredibly slowly to their not even waiting much past the confession of feelings to get down to business. :o) Obviously, everyone has his/her own opinion, and mine is that these two likely wouldn't jump right in immediately, just because it's such a big deal.  That said, I don't think they'd make it very long, but I do think they'd give it at least a few weeks.  I also find that it's easier and a little more fun to write steam than all-out smut, but that's just me.

Thanks, as always, for reviewing!

Roy being a good guy. Nice. And it official starts. And Jim can cook - besides grilled cheese - of course. I am glad. And only one more chapter :(. Sucks.

Good Part Two Epilogue.

Author's Response: Yeah, I have a weakness for Roy as a good guy.  In fact, this is probably the worst that I've ever written him (IIRC); David Denman just gets me.  ...As does Hot!Roy.  Heh.  Thanks for reviewing!
