This is really interesting reading from a post-S9 perspective, and it feels very true to these characters and their relationship at this point. They love each other so much, but they haven’t really learned how to communicate about the big things and they’re so desperate to maintain their image in the other’s eyes that it ends up making things more complicated – that’s just the essence of them.

I'm so glad you put this in my thread! I feel slighted that I missed it!  This was amazingly, realistically sad.  Jim and Pam have always had trouble communicating, and I think it's awesome that you worked that in.  I also love that despite everything, their love for each other makes everything a little more okay.

wonderful, wonderful job

Author's Response: Thanks so much, ppc.  I agree, their communication habits are not the best and have the potential to make things rocky.  Good idea for the thread, by the way.

I really like this portrait of domesticity for the two of them. Pam managed at DM-Scranton without Jim, but he's right- she is the stronger of the two in many ways. You do a great job portraying the stress and fear of adult responsibility when it is new and you realize that you can't live on love and that happily-ever-after takes more than pixie dust. Great work, and a very hopeful ending.

Jim considered that maybe he needed to get Michael a stuffed lion for times when he was difficult.

You know, that might actually work with Michael.

In a few minutes the two of them were asleep on the couch.

Aww. As a wife and mother, I can attest that that is one of the sweetest sights in the world.

I love the way you handled this whole story, BL. Sweet without being cloying, and Pam finding her art again at the end. You've been away too long. Welcome back!

I really really liked this because it felt like a real relationship, and not a perfect version of it . Plus, I think it really captures the little things we know about the characters like Jim's reticence to say things at time, bottling it up.  That was a great read.

Author's Response: Thanks so much, glad you liked it.  I love reading and writing fluff, and of course we see stories where the whole point is to bang our grief bone with angst...I wanted to try something in between.  And Jim is reticent 99% of the time and spilling his guts the other 1%, and I do think that would keep showing up in their relationship.

This was so sadly realistic - sad in that they don't seem to be able to communicate very well.  Jim feels he's let her down, Pam feels she's let him down, he's trying to fix things himself without sharing his plans with her, she's worried about why he's so worried.  I loved that how after Jim confessed it all to her, he was able to sleep peacefully, and after she realized what had been troubling him, and what a fresh start might due for them, she was inspired to draw again.

PS Welcome back! I was thinking of you the other day and wondering what you'd been up to!

Author's Response: Hey there, glad to be back.  I'm around and still loving the show.  I was shooting for realism, and hopefully with the ending it wasn't too sad.  Thanks for the review!

I know I've said it already - but it bears repeating.  This is lovely for so many reasons - mostly because it's real.

And that in the end, they're both on their way to being better people is the lovliest of all.

Welcome back. :)

Author's Response: Thanks so much...I know it's not exactly fluff, but I did want the conclusion to show theat they were mostly okay and making progress.  You know me, I couldn't leave Pam unhappy.  Thanks tons for everything.

WELCOME BACK!  Seriously, you know that I really enjoyed this one and it is very very well done.  Simply awesome brokenloon  and don't stay away too long.

Author's Response: Thanks uncgirl, it was nice to have something I wanted to get out again.  Thanks so much for your help and support and keep cranking out stuff yourself.

I think that considering the last episode, this is very likely to happen in the future. If Jim doesn't start trying to move up soon, they'll get stuck with not as much mobility ie kids, morgage, that stuff. This was very realistic, but I'm glad there was some hope there at the end!

Author's Response:

I don't know if Jim needs to try to move up, but he needs to find a better situation at some point...I have to think that having Pam there is all that makes DM tolerable for him.  Thanks for the review!

Oh, man. This is good stuff. I love how Jim is still hesitant to share everything with Pam, how there's still that sliver of doubt where she is concerned. I think that no matter what, it's impossible to fully heal the wounds of the past. I also love that even though they're married and have a kid, they still have that quiet sense of melancholy, it's so realistic and really wonderful.

Author's Response: Thanks so much.  I wanted to wirte them as very much in love, but still with issues and a few cards stacked against them.  I'm glad you liked it.

Very nicely done.  Grownup life isn't all sunshine & lollipops, and I have many days I want to just push the HooBabies off on the HooHusband and say 'here!, they're all yours -- I'm going out for a margarita'.  And Jim does need to figure out what else is going to make him happy in life besides Pam.  Looking forward to seeing how they figure it out.

Nice to see you back, brokenloon!  P.S.  Bonus points for the Springsteen lyric -- are you listening to 94.7 - The Globe, too?

Author's Response: Well thanks Hoo.  I agree, Jim needs a little something.  Oh, hell yeah I listen to the Globe.  That station is a freakin' miracle.  And I hope you do get the margarita (or two) once in a while.

Amazing.  I know I'm biased, but I really think that even if I weren't I'd find this to be just beautifully bittersweet.  Nice to have you writing again!!

Author's Response: Well, thank you Stablergirl, I'm very glad you dig it.  And I'm glad to be writing again.

Forgot to rate and forgot to mention how much I love the title!  A little snip from Thunder Road is never a bad thing!

Author's Response: Absolutely it's not.  I'm fond of the title; I think the theme of Thunder Road echoes the story.  And I do loves me some Bruce.

This is just wonderfully real and touching.  I love how they're both worried about each other and what they might be thinking.   You really captured Jim's reticence to talk to Pam in just the right way.

Author's Response: Thanks...it does seem to me that Jim is very reticent most of the time, occasionally spilling his guts dramtically.

Ah reality.  It has it's moments.  Usually a bit of bitter in order to appreciate the sweet.   Well told.

Author's Response: Thanks.  Yeah, I don't know too many people living fairy tales.

Okay, wow... I'm pretty sure you've got access to a time machine, and you've been to their future and seen this actual series of events. Because... holy cow. This is absolutely believable, to the point of hurting just a little bit. But in a good way.

I applaud writers that have the courage to let these characters fail as well as succeed; that allow the rain to fall in between the sunny, unicorn-and-rainbow filled days we always seem to give Jim and Pam.

Excellent all the way around. And welcome back. I, for one, have noticed your absence and am happy that you have returned.

Author's Response: Mose-Thanks so much.  I was defintiely shooting for realism.  I'm not much for hardcore, griefbone banging angst, but hopefully this struck a balance.  And thanks, it's nice to be back.
