I like this.  I especially like your observation that Pam and Jim may be too focused on protecting each other to communicate well.

Author's Response: They both seem the type to be constantly trying to shield the other\'s feelings. They just need to talk.

I really like this post "Goodbye Toby" story!  I could see Jim struggling to keep conversation going on the way home.  I love that he proposes at a damn gas station!  My two favorite lines:

“Oh come on Halpert, I promise you’ll have a lifetimeof ass kicking opportunities ahead of you.”

and

So when the camera crew asks, we’ll come up with an elaborate and beautiful story about how I proposed to you on a moonlit beach lined with white candles. And we will say nothing about gas stations. Ever. Right?”

This is just lovely!  I really love some of your turns of phrase:

… gorgeous, stained glass window of a moment …
Brings a church-like image to my mind.  Makes me feel how Pam reverences this relationship.

…Of car
wrecks late at night when the silky quiet is wrapped up between their laced fingers…

I love the juxtaposition of the harsh image of the car wreck with the soothinly beautiful silky quiet.

And the last verse is just gorgeous!  So nicely done.  You packed a lot of emotion into under 400 words!

Author's Response: I\'m really, really glad you felt that way. Nothing makes me happier than stringing the right words together.

What great fluff!  I especially like how proud Jim is to tell the soup lady and the cashier about Pam.  Too cute.

Here's hoping for many more conversations before Pam gets home!

Author's Response: Thanks, VB - and I\'m glad you want you more. I was pretty much going to turn this into a summer-long affair. If I can\'t have Jim and Pam till September, than I\'m going to make stuff up, goshdarnit. Thanks again for the review - I love hearing what you think.\r\n\r\nP.S. So glad you're updating again!  This was just the little break I needed today.  Now I get to go back to finishing things up before I leave this job in ... five more work days!

Love the little detail about the mother covering her child's ears after Pam's comment about getting to sleep with the boss.  And her reaction to Jim's "conceived in sin" comment.  I think that's a very Pam-like ambivalence.

More please!

Just love that you made nicknames into a chapter topic!  I always cringe when a story appears here with Pam & Jim calling each other sweetie, honey or baby.  It does seem really out of character for them.  It does make me laugh, though, to think of them trying it out.

“Oh my god, you totally practiced that didn’t you?”

Too cute.  I must disagree with you on one point, though.  I absolutely could see Jim calling Pam Beautiful with a straight face.  I think Pam would giggle & be uncomfortable but I think it would seem perfectly appropriate to Jim.

I think you should keep this up till Pam is officially back to "regular" status, with her full allotment of screen time!

Author's Response: I know, right? It\'s one of the hardest problems I run into when I write stuff, so I figured I might as well use it as material. And now that I think about it, I think I probably could picture Jim using \'beautiful\' - but only on very special occasions. Thanks for the review, VB! Without my weekly dose of Pam, I\'m have no choice but to write about her instead :D.

I thought it was a fine chapter!  I liked how Pam had to sleuth out what was bugging Jim.  And I like that she's been able to stay friends with Roy's sister.  Don't know why I like that, but I do.

Author's Response: Why thank you! And yeah, I always imagine Pam\'s family and Roy\'s family intermingling a lot...after ten years of spending holidays with his folks, it didn\'t feel right that she\'d cut off all contact with them. Thanks so much for the review, VB, and I\'m really hoping you update soon :D.

Wow!  I've never had a chapter dedicated to me before!!  Thank you so much for the honor!  Not to mention the free plug for my story…

Perfectly enjoyable fluff here!  I absolutely can see Jim and Pam spending the whole weekend together and then talking on the phone for his whole drive home.

My favorite make-me-melt line in this chapter?

Remind me again why it’s still my apartment and not our apartment?

I dunno.  This one just got to me!

Author's Response: No problem, it\'s the least I could do. Plus I\'ve been enjoying Cardiac Care so much.

Perfect dialog!  I love the running commentary on what Jim's doing as he talks on the phone  It flows so well with his speech, not at all clunky.  I especially liked this paragraph:

Jim ducked into the drugstore, momentarily startled by the blast of air conditioning that made his clothes feel damp. The store was crowded with teenagers trying to escape the heat, and he turned to keep from colliding with a bald, suited businessman balancing an attaché and a slushie. “Seriously? The last five years didn’t tip you off?”

I guess I just like the image of the businessman with the slushie … and then that comment.  Zing!

Author's Response: Yes! I was hoping I\'d hear from you. Haha, the businessman just popped into my head and wouldn\'t leave until I wrote him in. Oh, and Snarky!Jim was itching to make an appearance. I could see Pam squirming on the other line, but I couldn\'t save her. Thanks so much for sticking with me. You\'re a rock star.

These were wonderful little conversations!  I love the image of Jim's laughter setting off little sunbursts in Pam's stomach.  This conversation reminded me of Billy Joel's You're My Home.  The room Pam draws is indistinct.  It's their co-mingled effects that makes it home.  It could be anywhere.  Jim makes it home.  I like that.

Author's Response: I went and checked the song out after I read your review - I have a soft spot for Billy Joel :). Thanks for the review!

Another great chapter!  It would be so like Jim to promote Pam's talents to Wallace.  So many little details that add to the mood of the story.  Pam's shriveled fintertips and the tepid water ... the silly who would you do game ...

Just loved this:

...he finished a little sadly, “You need to tell me what to do to make you stop questioning this, because it’s killing me that I can’t make you see it.”

Author's Response: Vampiric Blood, you always pick up on my favorite details :). Thanks for being such an awesome reaser and for taking the time to review!

Life isn't all fluff & banter.  I like this chapter just as it is.  I especially liked the bit about the bed and this:

She’d gotten tremendously better at expressing herself and standing up for what she wanted, but there were times when he still had to gauge her moods carefully and watch for tiny details to try and figure out what was going on in her head. It drove him crazy that she tended to go silent during fights, and that there were times she still hesitated to confide in him when she was upset, as though he’d be disappointed in her.

“Hey,” he said softly. “We talked about this. It’s me, remember? I don’t care if you whine or complain or whatever. Just…just let me in, ok?”

Very much in character.  I like it!

Author's Response: Oh I\'m so glad you liked the part about the bed - I almost left it out because it felt so clunky. I\'m doing my best to make the conversations natural and believable. Thanks so much for the review!

This is, well I'd have to say sublime!  I love the symmetry with Casino Night, his celebratory cheesecake and sparkling wine (except you can't get that at a grocery store in PA), and his actual proposal is one of the absolute best I've read!  PERFECT!

“So here’s the thing,” he begins and somewhere on the journey from the kitchen to here he’s fallen apart a little and his voice is low and gravelly, “I can’t promise you that the fireworks are always going to work out perfectly, or that the Champagne will be fancy and expensive, or even real Champagne. But I can promise you that I’m always going to want those things for you, I’m always going to think you deserve them. And when something goes wrong, I am always, always, going to come back and try again because this life that we have, it’s worth it.”

Author's Response: Thank you so much for this review, seriously you made my day with such lovely comments. And thanks for the catch on the wine at the Grocery Store, I should have remembered that you can\'t buy it in PA, it\'s now been changed to something non-alcoholic. Thanks again :)

I love this quiet little moment between Jim & Dwight.  I hadn't thought about Jim's sharing Michael's encouragement with Dwight.  Very nice.  I especially liked:

It was in these brief moments that Jim hated all that he had done to Dwight. He hated that he could extend sincerity and it still seemed like a ploy.

Wow!  This is so pretty and lyrical.  I chuckled at Pam's "Hold on. I want to see this."  That really cracked me up.  You scared me  for a beat when Jim shook his head.  I thought, "Oh shit, He's gonna make her wait again."  But no, then we got "Marry me.  Just, please.  Say you will."  That was perfect!

And I just love the lst sentences.

'...Yes it’s yes…. yes yes yes yes yes yes…’ she repeated until it became an abstract sound, like a musical note. Like joy.

And then she was kissing him and he was kissing her and she couldn’t use words any more. But still, she was telling him yes.

Man you pack a lot into a few words!

Author's Response: Saying a lot in few words is high praise to me - thank you so much! And I'm glad that line gave you a laugh (somehow, I could just hear her saying that.) Really appreciate you comments, Vampiric Blood!
