Welcome! What a sweet little vignette. I can just see Pam standing in that doorway and Jim with his back to her, swaying slowly. JK has such a beautiful speaking voice that I always imagined Jim as being able to sing nicely, but I'll go with this!

First time through I missed the "He was in love. Again." because it was right on top of the End Notes. You might want to edit the post and add a couple of returns there to break it up.

I like it. Be brave – write some more!

Author's Response: Thank you! And actually I was trying to figure out how to get a space in between that last sentence and the end note because I noticed that it wasn't too visible...but I can't get it to work. I'll keep trying. And I agree with the singing voice thing but I think if he can't sing but he's trying to, it makes it that much cuter. :)

Nothing wrong with a slow, steady pace to set up the story.  I'm intrigued to see what you plan to do with this.  Will Pam end up checking on Jim?  What's Karen hiding?

So sad to envision Pam's being reduced to repeated replays of a 20 second recording of Jim's voice.  I'm sure things will look up.

Author's Response: Ooh, all of your questions are like some narrator for a horror film trailer there, Ann. ;) Hope you enjoy this one.

This is absolutely wonderful!  You did such a good job describing the simmering anger beneath the surface.  I thought I would DIE when Jim gave Karen the keys and told her to start the car & he'd be down in a minute.  What an electric moment.  I am VERY much looking forward to the next chapters!

Author's Response: The keys part is probably one of my favorites that I wrote. I'm so glad you're feeling it. Thanks so much for the review!!

Yep, another FINE chapter! I hope you are going to let us see Pam's sketch of Jim. I think you're capturing the hesitation between them as they rekindle their relationship perfectly. Looking forward to the next one!

Author's Response: I will try to slip Pam's sketch of Jimbo somewhere in the next chapter, definitely. Just gotta think of the perfect thing. Thank you so much for reviewing!!

What a great job describing the attraction and hesitation between these two!

Author's Response: Thank you! I'm really trying to walk that line between over-doing it between them and making it poignant enough. I hope that it's working out that way, haha!

This is just outstanding, jazz!  It's so in character and painful.  The ending is devastating.  Makes Jim's prick-y behavior in S3 pretty understandable.

The most killer two paragraphs for me were:

Now you know you were wrong about Pam. She knows you’re a man. She knew all along. You know now, because she kissed you back. Really kissed you. Like a woman kisses a man. You can still feel her hand burning the back of your head where she touched you. Pulled you in. She knows how it feels to kiss you. That you want her. That you’re in love with her. That you need.

You laugh, unamused. You realize you’re such a fool, because, she has thought about you like that. You’re like that dress she sees in the store and holds up in the mirror in front of her just to see how it would look if she tried it on. The one she smiles at and puts back on the rack because it’s kind of cute but she has no intention of buying. You’re not the man she wants. You know that now for a fact, and it hurts worse than you could have ever imagined. It hurts someplace deep and ugly and decimating.

The concept of having Pam "try him on and put him back" ... wow.

I think this is one of the best things you've ever written.

Author's Response: Thanks very much VB, I'm sure it would have been better had I waited for you to read it too, but I was getting a bad case of cold feet. It makes me happy that you liked the dress part, because I kind of liked it, too. Even though she didn't admit it to herself, she'd clearly flirted with him, and what other conclusion could he come to, in the end? I always defended Jim's behavior in S3, and this is why. I imagined he'd lost so much to her, that he was acting out of self preservation, and I couldn't blame him for that.

Poking around in some old stuff, looking for inspiration, I guess. I forgot how good this was. You managed to convey Jim's raw devastation so well. The ending is so utterly hollow. Really great stuff, jazz!

Author's Response: I just saw this, VB - thanks a bunch. After all this fan fic writing, I've realized I do a better job if some idea just grabs me and I have to write it down rather than planning and plotting some idea I think I ought to like.

I really like this story. Nice flow to it and your characterizations and dialogue are good.

I do think it would've benefited from a second pass or a review by a beta. There were just enough grammatical/spelling errors that it was a bit disconcerting to me.

Positively LOVED this take on Jim's first day at D-M! Characterizations were spot on. Great dialogue. Don't know why but "And then there were two." really just hit home with me. Thanks for posting!

Author's Response: THANK YOU :) I'm really thrilled you liked this, especially the characterisations because I've had a massive hiatus from writing this pairing and I was a little nervous to post this.

Nope, you are not the world's slowest writer; not even the slowest MTT writer.  I'm afraid I have that dubious honor.

This was definitely worth the wait!  I really like Pam's interior monologue throughout.  And I love the little details that help Pam to snap her priorities into focus:  Ryan's little backhanded insult making her protective, Jim's wanting another girl making this baby seem more real, Cece's wanting mommy making Pam feel successful at motherhood.  Nice details.

Author's Response: Hehe :P Thank you very much! I tried to come up with little ways that would make her change of heart seem organic rather than rushed, so I'm glad it came across well. :)

I like it a lot! I think you do a great job of capturing Jim's perspective. I like the alternating fear and excitement ... and how you had it take a little while for him to process what this second pregnancy will mean to Pam. I think you're presenting this very realistically and that you most definitely stayed in character for both of them. Well written!

Author's Response: Thank you! We haven't seen a whole lot of Jim/Pam angsty-ness since they've been together AND this is my first Office fic, so I'm always a little worried that I'm not getting them quite right (it's hard to judge that kind of thing on your own fic objectively). So thanks for the feedback on that because I'm really trying :)

Is it sad that there are three of us vying for the slowest writer crown?

BTW, forgot to mention that I love our portrayal of Pam's guilt.  I think it's very realistic that, in her present state, she'd feel like the coworkers' reactions are payback for her lack of excitement about the baby.  The emotions in this story ring true.

Author's Response: Haha I'm just glad I'm not the only one. Some writers here can just bust out awesome stuff so quickly, and here I am taking more than a year to write five chapters. (Thanks for this second comment, too :))

Author's Response: Thanks, VB. I didn't want to make Jim come off as too feminine, so I asked the guys I knew (father, husband, brothers in law) what it felt like to be the father of a girl-child. They all said it's different from being father of a boy-child. So I tried to keep it real. Glad you liked it.
