Oops, don't know what happened re: format, but I wrote that in limerick form and it all became one long blur when I submitted (TWSS). Oh well, just adds to the lame factor.

Author's Response: It's okay. I'll still love you.

This is beautiful. I love the way you tied Pam as an artist into her feelings for Jim and her coming to terms with herself (one of my favorite fic themes too.) In the part where she ends it by simply saying 'Jim,' then their hands part, you perfectly captured the feeling of that moment. Just perfect.

Coincidentally just commented on this fic at TWoP, but thought I'd leave one here too...I really, really liked this. Very original and unexpected, yet right in character for Angela...and revealing of a side of her we don't often see. Love that last line...alot.

Author's Response: Thanks Colette!  I think Angela has some uncharted depth...

Checking in here and finding the start of a new multi-parter by you is like being notified that you've been given a new fruit/cookie/flower/whatever of the month club membership. Suddenly, you just can't live without those giant pears!

Loved Jim grinning at Pam with a mouth full of Coke and Pop-rocks. I could so easily imagine that scene having happened. And also the sense of portent and foreshadowing of what's to come in their relationship (not to mention the Adoration of the Forearms.) Ah, more please.

Author's Response:

To that I would say that finding a review from you is totally like getting something from your membership of the month club! (I hear they have wine clubs...heh.) I'm glad you liked this - and I think JK would be adorable with a mouth full of Pop Rocks and Coke (which says sick things about me, I'm sure).  I'm thinking the Adoration of the Forearms is officially an illness that I have, for which there is no cure.  Thanks for the review!

No sooner did I review part one...this! Will have to give some thought to analyzing that dream, but sewing Jim? Who'd of thunk that image would be hot? Who'd of thunk that image at all? Too funny. And oddly intriguing.

No instant pudding for our boy, you know how I feel about that question. And, wine-of-the-month it is...Harry & David be damned!

Author's Response:

Yeah, when I had that dream, I woke up thinking, what the hell? But it sort of made sense in the context for me - was about to start dating a guy I'd dated very briefly seven years before, and in the seven years that elapsed, we'd become very good friends.  So some of those issues are in there, I'm sure.

But yeah...Jim sewing - hot.  Who are we fooling?  Jim -- see, I tried to insert a crazy action Jim could do there and follow it with a "Jim doing X would be hot!" ....But I couldn't, because seriously, everything I tried - baking a pie, mowing the grass, sleeping - was just so hot.  Sigh. The things we suffer because of that man.....

So glad you updated this. What a sad, sad chapter. So many good moments - with Roy, the 'testimonials,'...really love that the catalyst for Pam calling off the wedding is Roy not knowing what yogurt she likes (nice memory of that Jim talking head) - that's how it would happen...all the big 'real' reasons overwhelm, then something that mundane would simply put it all in perspective. Very real.

Of course, by the end, I'm in my usual state of wanting to murderize Pam for not calling him.  Oh, and I have to say, I never would have thought I'd be thinking back to Paradise Lost in relation to Pam and Jim...you are a clever one!

First I was a bit put out that the 5:15 conference room rendez-vous was going to have to remain in suspended animation for a while...then you went and involved ice cubes and, well...a girl can change direction (and stories) in certain circumstances such as these.

I still like the way you're segueying from one time/place to another. How Jim recognizes his past self in Karen's interest. How Roy isn't a lunkhead. Looking forward to seeing how you tie it all together...I have no doubt you'll do it gracefully. (Meanwhile, feeling kinda nervous about tonight's episode...little bit queasy.)

Author's Response:

I know - the 5:15 cliffhanger was kind of cheap of me, I realize.  But I felt like I should add something to Only, since it had been so long since my last update.  Hopefully I'll get to work on it more this weekend.

I'm glad the shifting back and forth is working - though to be honest, I have no idea where I'm going with this thing!  I mean, I have a vague idea, but nothing concrete.  I guess we'll just see.....

And yeah, I'm feeling more than a little nervous about tonight's episode, though I have to say, I'm looking forward to seeing Jim's...state.  (Don't want to spoil anybody unintentionally.)

Thanks, as always, for the review!  And um, it's been a while since Seasick....no pressure....

Read these chapters a couple of days ago, but realized I hadn't reviewed. Let's just say they made waiting for Thursday easier...and harder! The 'first date' was so sad - I could really feel Jim deflate. And, have to say, Dwight asking if Pam was 'sickly' really made me laugh. Whole exchange, but his use of that word especially. I laughed, I sobbed...the total girl7 experience!

We all could use a little schmaltz now and then! Anyway, I don't think this was schmaltzy...it has a lot of heart, and I like how you ended it in a quietly sweet way (not to mention with Jim wearing the killer sweater/shirt combo.)

I think you did an excellent job here - it's really (I mean really) erotic, yet the characters remain distinct and recognizable as Pam and Jim from start to (ahem) finish. And that's not an easy combination to acheive.

Author's Response: Wow, thank you! I really wanted them to come off as Jim and Pam, yet have them do something really hot that we'd never see on the show.

I like how this starts with the phone ringing, then they're immediately mid-conversation. That kind of sums up their relationship at that point - almost like they were each others' ongoing internal dialogue. I liked the simplicity of this - raw and spare, yet it really conjured a poignant moment. If only Pam did (or could have admitted she did) know back then!

Well, you certainly got my interest piqued for Part Two. I like how you made Karen bring Jim and Pam together...love how Jim encourages Pam to pursue her art...great that you set it in NYC (so relatable for me!)  And lastly, thanks for reminding me of Everything But the Girl, who I haven't thought about in ages, but used to LOVE. And, come to think of it, isn't a bad choice for the Jim/Pam mood.

The metaphor of moving for Pam's state of mind/phases of her life is terrific - especially love how you threaded through her art as what keeps her together (wish they'd develop that on the show a little more - could really flesh her out as FNB). And of course, the ending - well, I'm the world's biggest sucker for Pam, Jim and a threshold. Really nice portrait of Pam!

Author's Response: Thank you so much for the thoughtful review! I liked exploring the idea that Pam has never really liked change, because moving is such a huge change. I don't have a very strong Pam voice, IMO (notice how she didn't actually speak, here!), so I am so glad you thought this did her justice!

Just beautiful.  I loved the idea of Pam making 'cue cards' -  just right for her. And this line was perfect and heartbreaking: There were no goodbyes. Just her palms laid flat on the surface of her desk as she waited for the sound of the door closing. So many good lines though...and lovely imagery and clean, evocative prose. Terrific.

Well, Missy, you certainly know your way around angst-ville. Jim's ambivalence...about Pam, his job, Karen - it's all here.

It reminds him of how he was always aware of Pam’s movements. For some reason, that line just nailed their dynamic back in Scranton for me.  And this: She doesn’t have a fiancé, she’s not wasting her talents, she’s very direct, and she hasn’t yet broken his heart. Just feels perfect for Jim's rationalizing himself into...and out of...what he feels, wants, thinks is good for him.

Okay, now with your able assistance, I'm all angsty too. Hurts so good.

Author's Response: Welcome to my angst party! Better than a pity party, seems more healthy anyway, and yet there's still plenty of Jim. I juts think he must be so wary at this point - of Pam, of having a real career, of getting involved with someone new. For someone who is such a creature of habit (ham and cheese, anyone?), he was just settling in with his last major life changes and voila! A whole new set. Hurts so good now, but we'll see how it all plays out!

Glad you picked this up again...and, as you've made clear, Jim is in a state of limbo. Outward appearances, back rubbs and sticks of gum aside, he's trying to will Karen to be what he needs. You've nailed his angst/ambivalence and frustration in that parking lot scene:

As usual, there were more misinterpretations.

Yup. And I like how you repeated that theme from the end of the last chapter, like a coda. Update soon please - I have a feeling I'll like your next chapter better than the agony of being twisted in knots tomorrow night. Basta!

Author's Response:

More misinterpretations - story of their lives. I'm hoping Jim's limbo won't last too long and in the meantime I'm not above wallowing in the angst! When we come to the positive resolution (and we will) it will be that much sweeter, right? ;)

Thanks colette!
