I really enjoyed this...can't wait to see what Jim does. Are you sure it'll only be 2 chapters? There are so many possibilities here!

Yeah, now that I'm thinking about it, this could go on for more chapters. But then I'd never finish Cardiac Care! Maybe I'll mark it finished after two chapters and come back to add on more later.

I love this story right now. There are so many posting now that are so sad--fights, illness, separation, broken engagements. Yikes. Everyone seems obsessed with an unhappy JAM right now!

There's nothing I hate more than sad Jim, and yours is way beyond sad. But I can't see him doing anything with that pistol because, somewhere deep inside, doesn't he still harbor some hope that it's not over with Pam?

Darn it! I can't believe Pam is not even considering that Jim is acting this way because of her, or at the very least because of a bout of depression.
I hope her Mom clues in, or Pam's going to be too late. You won't let that happen, right?
It was really sad to read his phone call with his Mom. The fact that he actually thinks that she would use his nest egg to go on a cruise is more evidence that he is very deeply immersed in a well of darkness.
Author's Response: I kind of agonized about whether Pam would consider that he would be depressed about her, but I decided she wouldn\'t be that self confident, if you understand what I mean. 9 Great chapter. Obviously she can tell from his appearance that something is seriously wrong.
Since she has "grown to rely on her own judgment now" I'm thinking that she won't be going anywhere until she gets the truth out of him.

8 I am anxious about what Pam will deduce in the next chapter, because she hasn't really pushed him at all about how he wound up in this condition. I understand why she hasn't, because she can tell he's not physically up to it. Can't wait to read how she finally gets him to open up to her though. She can't let him go on much longer without some answers.

I love how you have Pam thinking of various options of why Jim would have the gun, having "crazy" thoughts like the mafia, but never considering that he might be suicidal. And obviously, because she asked Steve about break-ins, she knew that she didn't have the truth yet.
Can't wait to see how she gets him to open up. I suspect poor Pam will have a very long, sleepless night...

I'm pretty nervous about your comment that there will be two different endings...
Their conversation about the gun and Pam's discoveries was very believable and true to the characters.
I have to say, though, I'm shocked she went back to Scranton. I just can't believe she would leave while he was still in the hospital and she wasn't sure of his recovery, even with his mother coming.
I've really enjoyed this story, I'll be sorry to see it end!

He sure doesn\'t want Pam sharing too much info with his mom, and it\'s not an ideal way for the girlfriend to meet the mom anyway. Author's Response: Hmm...interesting take. I never thought of it as a weapon. The way I see it - things simply happen in life. Things we haven\'t planned. I think Pam could have handled the situation better, but I do believe it\'s right of her not to get married at this point. And yeah...I agree that her actions are harsh. This is a Pam under pressure who seems to act accordingly. Thank you for leaving feedback.

I love the paragraph where he's thinking about their kiss on casino night, and how for that brief moment of time he was "unconditionally happy" and that makes him willing to take another chance to get that feeling back. Well done.
And really, these moments of the show were the best ever, so don't feel overindulgent about revisiting and filling in the blanks the way you see fit. Thanks for sharing it with the rest of us!
