Author of the Month March 2020

I've been writing fanfiction for awhile now. Just recently discovered The Office and figured I'd try my hand at that as well.

At first I thought of having all my stories in the same universe, but then I had some AU ideas. So any stories that occur within a common universe will be in a given series.

Pam's turn to not get all the pieces. Though from how you set it up, it makes sense. That Pam can't quite get that Jim might have romantic feelings fits her considering her reaction on Casino Night. Yes there may have been hints in the past, Jim reviewing the grilled cheese on the roof for example, but I could see that in the midst of wedding planning Pam could have easily forgotten about things like that and gone back to the old habit of Jim's my best friend.

Roy is still Roy and it looks like Pam's starting to see that too. Good job with this one.

Author's Response: Thanks! It was really important for me that Pam not be ready for Jim's revelation on Casino Night, and this was my attempt to move her in that direction: aware that they're important to each other, but not really admitting to herself why or how much.

That was actually really cute. I liked how you didn't actually put us there in the kitchen when Jim and Pam saw each other, rather kept it to the Mom's POV. Great way to get them back together, after all Mom's usually know best.

Quick case in point here, Ryan was never the CEO. He was a Vice President before he got canned. Just a point of clarification is all. Otherwise so far this is an interesting take on things. Let's see what else this story brings.

Author's Response: Oh, right! Thank you! I don't know why I thought he was CEO haha

Cute little story here. Dwight actually acting more normal is refreshing. Good way to set up how this kind of situation would unfold.

One small quibble, Pam doesn't have a wedding ring at this point. She has an engagement ring. Like I said it's kind of a small quibble. Otherwise good chapter here. I liked their back and forth and what's going on in Pam's head. Onto the next chapter.

This is a good stopping place to be sure, however I for one wouldn't mind seeing how things would develop. Does Pam forget all her musings once she sobers up? Does she wake up to remember everything leading to more introspection about her life choices? Does Jim think about how she ditched Roy to come back to the Dundies thus giving him courage to say what he feels? Lots of ways this story could go. Still if you want to end it here, this is a good spot. Nice short little story too.

Author's Response: Wonderful suggestions!!! Thank you very much for your jellybeans and kind words. I will work on updating this

Summary:

An office party is not an excuse to get really drunk, or confront someone, or have a cathartic experience of any kind.

Also, Pam won't tell Jim what her favorite Christmas song is.

That was fun. Nice to see Pam being like this. Who doesn't love a little office steam too? Lots of great throwbacks to a ton of great stuff from the show.

Summary:

Pam and Jim just started dating, and Pam’s curious about Jim’s romantic past. He pretty much knows all about hers, such as it is, so it seems only fair.

An interesting story to be sure. Writing character backstory is always fun since it's up to you to decide how things go. Pam listening to all of Jim's exploits like this without jealousy, and in fact teasing him about it, is nice. Shows that even in the early stages of their relationship they have a good bond.

Author's Response: 5hanks for the review. I considered writing in some aspect of Pam being jealous but it wasn't coming to me as part of the story. I think if I were in her place I'd feel secure in how Jim felt about me so I went with that thought.

Summary:

Jim is visited by the Ghosts of Christmas Past, Christmas Present, and Christmas Yet-to-Be. Because I watch too much A Christmas Carol and It's a Wonderful Life every December. Set during "Dwight Christmas" in Season 9 for the 2018 Secret Santa Fic Exchange.

I own nothing here. Concepts and characters go to Greg Daniels, Charles Dickens, and Frank Capra.

Micheal as Marley was a great idea. Ryan as the Ghost of Christmas Past should be very interesting. Jim's denials that everything is fine is telling of his feelings at this point. You've very much got him caught in his own world that he can't see the forest for the trees. Nicely written.

Author's Response: Thanks, Warrior! I really love the idea of Michael as Marley here so I'm glad that worked for you, too.

I don't blame Jim at all for getting in the way of Ryan there. I do like how all those scenes reminded him that he once promised to never put Pam on the back burner, as you said, but he has done just that. Kelly as the Ghost of Christmas Present should be fun and and the same time likely to cause Jim to want to drive a steak through his temple.

Author's Response:

Oh my gosh! Warrior, it's like you read my notes! I had more plans for Kelly to equally make Jim laugh and want to ditch her, but, alas...time constraints.

I'm so glad you liked the parts about Jim letting his family slip as a priority!

Again I like how you've portrayed everyone here. That Jim said he would be the only one Pam needed to cry on and then he's the reason she's crying. Very good writing there to convey it all.

Author's Response: Thanks, Warrior! I appreciate your feedback.

Yeah that's one's tough, but how else could it get through this Jim's brain to snap out of it. Tough but good.

Author's Response: Thanks Warrior! Yeah, it had to be a couple of Big Scary Things, right? I'm so glad it worked for you though. Thanks!

This was a great way to end this one. I liked all the different elements you put into this one. The video and the Teapot note, how Jim and Pam re-connected in "Paper Airplanes," all the Christmas party stuff when Jim comes back. And of course the implied activities once they get home. Very nicely written and falls well within the "Christmas Carol" tradition. I liked it.

Author's Response: Warrior, thank you so much for your kind words, the specifics on what worked, and commenting on every single chapter! Thanks so much!

Summary:

There sits that bag of chips, on the passenger seat, to remind her of him, of his skin, and of the things that need to be fixed in her life.

Set after S02 E06, The Fight.

Good chapter here. Lots of good internal thoughts and then that scene in the kitchen while she and Jim are figuring things out was very well written. Just the right touch of being nervous yet tinged with hope. That they're both on the same page about their feelings is sweet to see. Pam being cautious about jumping from one relationship to another so quickly seems very realistic.

Be careful with proofreading. There was one time where the word in the chapter was "zinc" when I'm sure you meant "sink." Since "zinc" is spelled correctly I'm sure your spellcheck didn't catch it. A trick I'll do is when I get done writing a chapter, I'll leave it alone for about a day and then go back and proofread. I've caught a lot of typo type errors like that before. Just a suggestion is all.

Author's Response: Thanks for pointing that out. Turns out, I'd copied the wrong file. I think it's better now.

I liked all of Pam's introspection here. How she's thinking about all the things that have led her to this moment and what they mean. You also did a good job with Jim here too I think. He's still supportive of her, but he's not pushing her to make a decision she's not ready for, nor is he pushing himself on her. Good for you for writing like that. Hopefully this will be more than just a one shot, because I'm very curious to see how her conversation with Roy goes.

Nice update here. I like how Jim is pacing around at the start going stir crazy trying to decide what to do. Then when Pam does show up you've got him back to being what she needs. Support, and friendship. I'm sure he'd love to try and start trying to get together with Pam, but you've got him knowing that just after she's called it off with Roy it wouldn't be the right time to do that. Good characterization on that part. Even still, the fact he's got that over active imagination of his shows he's clearly thinking about that. How could he not? Well written to express all those feelings.

Moving on? by Lizby Rated: MA [Reviews - 28] 24
Summary: It was in that moment that she realized that he had truly moved on. That Jim Halpert didn't love her anymore. Which also led her to another realization, it was time for her to move on as well. Season 3 AU, set after Ben Franklin.

Okay, so that was defiantly a different take on Pam's speech. Jim's reaction...just heartbreaking. So what's going on with Jim? Is he starting to realize what's going on with her? With him? Is he to late now? Compliments on writing a story with such emotional depth.

This was a great way of using some familiar show elements and retooling them. Dwight's pepper spray and Jim's lines fit very well here. I did like how Pam just told off her co-workers like that. That she was able to shock everyone into silence. It's similar to the self-empowering shock after the canon coalwalk, but of course here it's just that she's angry at everyone.

I know you've got her going through a lot right now. And she doesn't seem to be getting any help from anyone in the office, sadly including Jim. But she does at least have the mental awareness to realize she still wants to be with Jim. Hopefully she can combine those thoughts with her earlier anger and finally tell Jim off in a way similar to the coal walk.

Careful with the wine there Pam. In vino veritas (in wine truth), but other times it leads to choices you may not want. Good thing she's got a good friend there to at least try and keep her on an even keel.

No not the kind of scene one would expect at all. I always kind of got a bad vibe from Danny when I saw him in the show. The kind of guy who is so confident that he thinks things are owed to him. I get the same feeling here. That he would just roll over like that says a lot about him without saying much, so good on you for writing like that. Unless you've got something else planned for later.

I do feel for Pam here. I know you've got her hoping for a nice date and a nice night, but then for it all to go wrong like this, I'm sure would be hard. She's not over Jim regardless of anything. The line there where you said she was going to lock her pain away is very appropriate for her right now. Here's hoping that she'll realize that locking the pain up doesn't make it go away. Only facing it and trying for what she really wants will do that.

Like I said in my last review I'm hardcore JAM fan. So seeing Pam with someone else, for me, is out of my comfort zone. That you'd at least start with someone who did date Pam in cannon seems to be a good way to ease into this. However as you said, Pam is still in love with Jim. I know she's trying to be this new independent person and all, but something says eventually this will catch up to her and how will she end up feeling about all that?

All that being said, well written and very descriptive. Good job on that regard.

Interesting take on the wedding. On one hand I'm glad it that it looks like Pam's not leaving with Roy. On the other hand I'm a hard core JAM shipper so seeing Pam date other people, even though yes I know Jim is currently dating Karen, is always just a bit out of my normal comfort zone. Still an engaging story though.

You're very welcome. Though considering my own stories have a few typos from time to time I've tried to hold off, unless it's kind of glaringly obvious. Hope that's ok.

Anyway getting into this chapter. I really like Pam's courage here. To drive all the way up to Roy to tell him its over. That he at first doesn't believe her or then try to stop her or try to save their relationship seems fitting. Roy trying to cut her off and not listen seems appropriate for him too. He's never really listened to her before, why start now?

Then she keeps on with that courage to text and call Jim again. That Jim is still awake and concerned and that Roy isn't just shows who's right for Pam and who's not. Then when he comes over he's not pushy and he lets her lead the conversation. Their admissions to each other are great to see. Nicely done this time around.

Reviewer: warrior4 Signed

Very nice here. I like how Jim takes his time and makes sure he's not overstepping any boundaries. Then when they do come together it's very sweet. That Pam is realizing she wants more than her life with Roy is great to see. That she's also realizing that the life she wants is what Jim is offering is sweet as well.

Author's Response:

The thing I love about season 3 (one of the few things, really, because that season is painful to watch) is how Pam finds herself and her voice and that makes it possible for her to be with Jim later on, as her own person, amd a steong independent woman.

Placin this in season 2 gives me little time for that, but still, I want her to do that learning curve, even if it's just in hours instead of months.
