This is just incredible.  I noticed Jim was wearing a blue shirt nearly every episode this season but I never attributed it to Casino Night.  And I didn't even think about how Pam was wearing blue in The Convict.  It just makes so much sense.  This story was beautifully written.  So sweet.

Author's Response:

Hee!  Glad you liked it.  Thanks so much for reviewing!

Post The Convict - just a brief scenario, pondering that episode. Jim, Pam, Karen, Einstein...the usual gang. (Originally written as one of a collection of scenes; decided to let it be a stand alone. For now.)

His face was buried in her hair, his hands holding her so close that she almost lost her balance. But he was big and solid and steadying. He was Jim again: an inevitable fact of her life. She leaned back just enough to search his face. He was smiling. She stood on her tiptoes and kissed him. Hard and long and deep. His question, the question, was finally answered.

This part is so beautiful.  I love that you acknowledged Jim as an inevitable part of Pam's life.  It's so true.  I really hope you do more, I'd love to see what happens next!

Author's Response:

He is, isn't he? Glad you agree. Now, if only they'd get on with it already! Thanks so much for this!

Summary:

I really have no idea what this is about. ;-)

It's a light bit of Karen/Pam slash with a twist, mixed in with the spirit of Christmas..

Bonus points to you if you figure out what the hell the title means. ;-)

I totally love the fact that Jim had a dream like that...so he is a normal guy, after all!  And the second chapter just made me squee.  The rooftop was perfect place for that scene to play out.  Well done!

I loved this.  I could totally see Michael letting Kevin practice the drums in the office.  I loved the JAM interaction...and I could totally see Pam taking her turn at being aloof.  I loved how it turned from witty banter to awkward seriousness at just the mention of Pam's ponytail.  I can't wait to read more!

Author's Response:

That's all it takes for these two.  Simple things - blown way out of proportion.  So. Frustrating.

It'll get better - I promise. :)

Oh my God.  I...just...love this.  The dialogue is perfect, Pam and Jim getting frustrated over Karen "not getting it", the and the fact that they are settling back into their old rapport for now.  I can't wait for the next chapter!

Author's Response:

Thanks 69CoN!  I'm glad you like it.

Next chapter coming up soon!

I really can't get over how creative you are with each Day of Christmas.  This was the perfect scenario, for Jim to find out Pam's going out to a club and I love the fact that it bothers him so much.  I would think Jim would want Karen to go, so he could "casually" ask for details later!

And my favorite part of all is how Pam outed Jim for dating Karen.  I'm glad she said it the way she did.

Author's Response:

HA!  That would have been funny - Jim sending Karen on a secret mission.

But IMO, Jim doesn't really want to know - just like Pam really has no desire to hear about what happened at Karen's.

Yeah.  Poor Jim.  It's no use.  She's onto you....

Author's Response: by no desire I mean - the truth might kill them both.  They are curious no question.  Just wanted to clarify. ;)

This was just so sweet.  I'm definitely glad you decided to go with this idea.  And I totally agree that there is nothing more adorable than Jim babysitting Sasha.  I love the way Sasha seems enraptured by Pam and how Jim feels it, too.

It's amazing how kids can take the most complex things and make them incredibly simple.

This is so true and just the perfect way to put it.  What a great line.  And I'm glad Jim agrees with Sasha.

Six geese-a-laying!  I can't wait!  "I got goosebumps!"

Author's Response:

Thanks so much 69CoN!  I'm so glad everything I tried to convey came across.

Hee! about the goosebumps.  Funny you should use that term...the next chapter IS about "geese" you know. :)

I really truly believe that Pam would not go any further with Jim until Karen is out of the picture.  This line is really good:  "There's still someone standing between us and I just don’t…"  She shakes her head.  "I don't want to be that girl.  Someone who can't be trusted…someone who could do this when the other person involved has no idea I even exist."  Because obviously faithfulness is something she feels strongly about.

And I like how you segued that into Jim saying that he feels like he's been cheating all along.  I think that's a very real thing that Jim would have going on in his mind.

Ok, bring on the hens!

Author's Response:

I'm glad you said that - because after I wrote that Jim part I second guessed a bit.  I mean he technically wasn't cheating at all.  He told her how he felt - she told him - in effect - no - and so he was perfectly within his rights to date who he wanted.

But I think the point is he didn't really want to.  So I'm glad you thought so too!

This is my favorite one so far.  Pam worrying, Karen's reaction...and THIS:

"You go first."  He nudges her with his elbow as he stirs his coffee again.

"Why?"

He leans against the counter, crossing his feet at the ankles.  He looks at her over the rim of his mug.  "So I can watch you leave."

OMIGOD.  I just loved it.  And what made it my favorite was that you were able to bring back the origami doves.  Because I just know that Jim did actually keep all of that stuff.  This was perfect.  I can't wait for the last chapter!

Author's Response:

I just like the idea of Jim leaning on a counter watching Pam walk away. :)

The doves were always a given.  I sort of hinted in 8 Maids - when Pam thought about the OO when ripping off the lid of her yogurt.  Subtle - I know - but the foreshadowing was there. ;)

Is it sad to say that I will probably never listen this song the same way ever again?  ;-)  I LOVED this chapter!  What a freakin' creative way of portraying a partridge in a pear tree.  Oh my God.

Author's Response:

You and me both noodles.  You and me both.  :)

Seriously - when I stumbled across that little explantion of the lyric I was like...hell yeah!!

And then my only problem was trying not to make it resemble a bad porno movie.  Glad you think I succeeded!

Is it wrong that this made me wish Jim was my son, even though I'm pretty much the same age as he is?  I mean really, who could ask for a better son.

But I can see where Jim gets his sweetness from and I love that his mom is smart, intuitive and is willing to get involved just enough.  I love that she's curious about Pam and sees in her what he sees in her.  I love that she was polite to Karen but pretty much brushed her off because she knows Karen's kind of insignificant.  I can't wait to read more!

I'm so glad you like my characterization of Jim's mom - I had hoped I'd made her as real as Jim and Pam.

No!  Don't let Karen have the chance!  I like Pam's comparison of Karen to Katy.  Because there was nothing vapid about Karen, no glaring character flaw to indicate that she and Jim would never last. So sadly true.

Author's Response:

Yeah, I think the writers have done a wise thing in making Karen likeable and believable as a quasi-love interest for Jim.  She's no Katy; that's for sure (no disrespect to Amy Adams, who did a fantastic job in that role).

I love Toby in this chapter.  This line:  Toby lingered awkwardly, then said quietly, almost inaudibly: "You and Jim...you're both really lucky." is so great.

And I loved this:  But here she was, and he knew instinctively that she was teetering on the edge of something. Or maybe she'd already fallen.

Such a great chapter.  I really love this story.

Wow.  I feel bad for Karen here, because she's in such a tough situation.  I think this type of thing is happening now, and it's inevitably going to become more apparent to her on the show.  You've done a good job of writing Karen's confusion and frustration.

Author's Response:

I feel badly for Karen, too, but I'm glad the writers made her likeable.  That said, I suspect the end of that relationship won't be easy for poor Jim, who'll no doubt feel guilty, thus keeping him away from Pam for a while.... Damn you, Greg Daniels, and your endless angst!

Thanks for reviewing!
