So yeah, that pretty much killed me. My mouth was wide open for the last half of this chapter--at first I thought the letter was going to be anonymous, but then BOOM. First person with DETAILS? Did not expect that.
Thank you for socking me in the jaw, GiTC. As you know, I love it every time. Can't wait for more! --CH
Date: March 06, 2008 Title: Chapter 7: Message Received
Crap. HOLY CRAP. GiTC, not only do you floor me with a kickass wonderful parking lot scene, but you end it by resurrecting the Christmas card? You know what I'm about to say, as it's old hat by now, but who cares, I'll shout it from the rooftops: You slay me. And what a way to go.
I love this: "On most days, she could see ghosts of themselves still clad in shiny blue dresses and dress-sweaters haunting that spot, reluctant to leave until the events of that night were put right."
But then I love anything you write. This is just lovely; bravo for another fabulous chapter! ---CH

You kick indescribable ass, GiTC. Rock on. --CH

Of course, of course, again and again, I love this, Mel. Just....wow. SO good. I love the joking tone between them, as though this was how they'd been wanting to be for WAY too long when they were apart. You've done a brilliant job here, and I will be sad to see this end.
And "FOB?" You know that holds a special place in my heart, and even though you didn't mean what I mean when I say "FOB," I still smiled like an idiot to think of Jim saying it.
Fabulous, as always!! -CH

Oh Catie9, I love this already! You've done a wonderful job capturing the early days of their relationship, and it was such fun to see Pam fidgeting in front of him. I'm eager to see Stanley's reaction to her filching his crossword puzzle book, but I'm even more curious to see what happens next. Can't wait! -CH
Author's Response: Thanks, CH! I was actually kind of inspired by the idea behind your 16 Candles fic...I\'m very intrigued by the concept stringing a line (crosswords, office birthdays) from the beginning of their friendship onwards and seeing how that consistency shifts, changes as they do to redefine who they are to each other. Ha, and I hadn\'t thought of throwing in Stanley\'s reaction beyond Jim teasing Pam for harboring a secret desire to be Stanley...but I might have to rework that! Thanks so much for the kind words, CH, and I\'m dying for another installment of \"Euclid!\" ;)\r\n\r\nCP

VERY cute, Miss Catie! I love the tie-in to the Rooftop Scene of Doom; indeed, while I HATED that the show's writers messed up my personal canon (I'd always thought he started at the company first, but oh well), I'm happy that scene was able to create a chapter like this. There's something so lovely in the way she thinks it's easier to look at someone else's art, and you do a wonderful job writing their emotions in these oh-we're-just-friends days of their relationship. Bravo! -CH

Oh, Colette, Colette, Colette. DAMN. I saw "Jim/Karen" and winced a bit, but then I saw your name and said, "Well, she knows what she's doing." I'm so happy I read this. The insight and tone were simply incredible, and I loved every word of this. In fact, I've got to cite a passage that literally made lean forward as I was reading...
He thinks about burnt hot dogs and s'mores washed down with bug juice (flavor: red) at summer camp when he was a kid. He thinks about eating this insanely good Chinese noodle thing straight from the carton while sitting on his sofa watching a game, on the rare nights he gets to himself these days. Sometimes if there's no new game on, he watches an old one on ESPN Classics. It's a little crazy--despite already knowing the outcome, he finds himself hoping his team will win. Even when he knows how badly they've already lost. He thinks of grilled cheese sandwiches on the roof.
DAMN. So telling, and so much emotion packed into such a lovely, perfect paragraph. And don't get me started on when Jim "thinks about abandon," 'cause we'd be here all night and Lost is coming on soon. ;-)
Wonderful work, my friend. Perfect. -CH
Author's Response: I'm flattered you took a chance - and that you weren't disappointed. Also pleased this hit the right tone for you - I really wanted it to create a mood, so that's great to hear. Thanks Becky - and hope you didn't miss Lost ;-)

Oh, nqllisi, I'm pointing all those nay-sayers who hate Valentine's Day in this direction; it'd be IMPOSSIBLE to hate it after reading this!!! This was lovely, and a perfect glimpse into our favorite couple's first V-Day together. Thanks for this! -CH
Author's Response: Aw, thank you! I am not sure you could convert the die-hard haters with this little bit of fluff, but I'm happy to do my part for the effort. Happy Valentine's!
She saw the iPod as she was packing her stuff into boxes. It had been tucked away in a drawer for months. She never listened to it anymore; the memories were too painful.

Brokenloon--I like this a lot! I think your description of Jim's transition and torment is right on key, and I'm eager to see how, indeed, he plans to apologize. Kudos on making Roy's flaws and imperfections a subtle discovery for our girl Pam. I think you've set up a fabulous story here, my friend, I'm buckled in and ready for you to take me down the freeway-of-fun-stories at breakneck (or brokenloon?) speed! --CH
Author's Response: Thanks much, CH, and thanks for your contributions. I'm not exactly sure what brokenloon speed is--not terribly fast I don't think--,but we'll get down the freeway soon.
Date: March 08, 2008 Title: Chapter 2: Chapter 2
brokenloon--Excellent installment. I really like the way you've shown Roy in this chapter; his anger and vulnerability are nicely balanced, but I hope this isn't the last we hear from him. I think it'd be great to see Pam (having become "fancier," so to speak, in her independence) talking with him again about their relationship, but that's just this gal's opinion.
I'm also oh-so happy to see the return of the Jim we all know and love! His optimism is contagious, making all of us eager for the next chapter and to see what's in not one but BOTH of these fun cards!
Well done, my friend! -CH
Author's Response: Hey there CH. You're right, given the nature of the breakup, I think it would make sense that those two get to say more to each other at some point. It was certainly a relief to be able to write old Jim again; bitter shut down to his feelings Jim is no fun. Thanks for helping make this installment better.

Oh my, wendolf! You certainly drop in a surprise there at the ending (TWSS)! I'm intrigued; I always thought of Karen as a non-threat after "The Job" (as though the last 3 minutes of that ep were the Anti-Karen Vaccine I'd waited a whole season to discover), but you've created a degree of tension that's very original. I can't wait to see what's next! -CH
Author's Response: Glad you\'re intrigued . . . I don\'t see actual Karen as much of a threat either, but the memory of Karen could bring up some baggage, eh? We\'ll see.....\r\n\r\nThanks for your comments!
Date: March 05, 2008 Title: Chapter 3: Chapter 3
Wendolf--This was wonderful. The insight into Jim's character and frustrations was perfect, and I really enjoyed the "Beach Games" twist in having Karen encourage him to talk to Pam. Your use of the "iwishyouwould" device was brilliant, and the heart and emotion of this chapter were delightful. I cannot wait for more! --CH
Author's Response: Thank you so much, Becky. I so love writing these characters and I find myself excited to get back to the computer each and every time. I truly appreciate your comments -- it\'s nice to know that something works the way you hoped.\r\n
\r\nI\'ve printed up your Euclid story and am going to read it at lunch. I\'m quite excited!

ExtremelyGruntled---So many apologies that it's taken me so long to discover your story! I just read all seven chapters and couldn't get enough! These last few weeks have brought a drought of fic to MTT, but creative pieces such as this are like a breath of fresh air! I really like the suspense you've created here, and Jim's recognition/recollection at the end was lovely. I can't wait to see what happens next! --Best, CH

ExtremelyGruntled--Oh, I was so happy to see an update of this one! I'm really enjoying this, and the added level of suspense here is unparalleled. I can't wait to see how Jim and Pam pluck themselves out of this odd little universe. Again, your creativity with this story is so impressive and delightful; this is a real treat for all of us as we wait for April 10th!!! --Best, CH

I loved this, ExtremelyGruntled. Well done!! This was a wonderful conclusion to your story, and I think you've done a fine job telling a fascinating, what's-gonna-happen-next kind of story. Great work!!

Very charming, kells8995! I loved this, and the repetition of "I'm totally fine" was very effective. Nice work! -CH

This was lovely, kells. The characters' sensuality and playfulness were great elements of the story. Well done! -CH
Author's Response: Thank you, Becky! It's funny because for a while, like, before Casino Night aired...even though they had great chemistry I had a hard time picturing them being intimate, if that makes sense. But ever since that kiss it makes more sense to me. Like, their chemistry and great friendship and, as you put it, playfulness would probably make their relationship even more intimate and sensual, you know? I'm babbling now so I'll just say thanks for the nice review. It's always good to hear from you. -K

Lovely, Catie. You balance fluff and real heart with perfect grace; the first vignette practically melted before I could scroll down, the second captured all that is funny about this little couple, and the third was a charm (something about Jim liking my boy Leo makes BOTH of them that much hotter to me!).
Well done! --CH
Author's Response: A quick story into the life and times of Catie: When I was in 8th grade, Titanic came out, and like any good (read: brainwashed) 8th grade girl, I saw the movie five times in theaters. Now, before I get ridiculous and tell you how I gave into the apparently cool thing to do and cried as they bored they ship in the beginning, I have since calculated the amount of time I spent with Leo and Kate. The way I see it, I have two choices. I could either lament the fact that I spent so many hours at the film (I still haven\'t been able to watch it all the way through since 1999), or I could involve them in my creative opus. Choosing to not be sad and pathetic, they showed up here. Take from that what you will. Anyway, I\'m glad you enjoyed this, CH!

unfold--I'm so happy to see a new story from you!! I read through this and thought it was Roy at first, but that's what I get for so hungrily devouring something you've written. A more careful reread revealed the deeper emotion between Jim and Pam, and that this was, indeed, an angsty twist on s2. I love the structure you used here with the punctuation and personification. This was great; don't go away for so long again! --CH

Chica II--This is simply a lovely start to a wonderful new story! I've read so many iterations and versions of this chapter over the past few days, but the real treat has been seeing it all come together to form this perfect first chapter. I've told you how concerned I am about the MTT "Fic!Drought" of 2008, but it's stories like this from authors like you that make me truly happy to see new work on our beloved site. You've done a fine job balancing the sweet and playful sides of Jim and Pam with the many mysteries they've yet to share, and I think this is a delicious tension that will be delightful to watch unfold. I can't wait for chapter two, so crack those knuckles and get crackin'! --Best, CH
Author's Response: Chica -- seriously, you\'re a rockstar there\'s no other way to say it! Thank you so much for all the support. I could not have a better beta to bounce and throw stuff around with.
Date: April 16, 2008 Title: Chapter 2: Occhiate di Amore
Okay.
First off, how fun is it to find a fabulous new writer on this site? I absolutely adore the burst of energy you brought to MTT in those last few days of the strike, and in all honesty, I think you're one of the best new authors on the site today. There's a freshness of your writing that one doesn't often find in the latest fics; it's sweet, and sometimes deliciously sugary, but it reaches a level of thoughtfulness we don't often see from "first-timers." You write with such precision and creativity that it's an absolute pleasure to read the same words over and over again, and I really applaud your fresh approach to fic and fun here at MTT.
There's a lot to love in this chapter, but I have to say that I'm madly obsessed with the balance you've struck between "cheese" and "meat," so to speak. Let me start by saying this: there's NOTHING wrong with cheese in fic, those perfectly gooey moments where we just want to curl up with a box of chocolates and enjoy the sweetness of a well-written fic. But you've done something different here. You've created these "cheesy" moments (which again are the bread 'n butter of fic) like Jim and his perfect bouquet of paint things and roses, moments like the necessary "hello" kiss before they could leave for the date, and balanced them with a hulking plot that really is "meaty" and fascinating. Too many people assume that Jim and Pam's first date after "The Job" ended with tearful "OMG I love you"s and hot sex against a brick wall, but I love the realistic subtlety you've brought to this story. Pam's apprehension and excitement to finally tell Jim how she feels is full of the realism I love to find in well-written fic, and the weight of her emotions adds a perfect balance to those sweeter, lighter moments you've written in the story. I say this to say that you're excelling in creating a sense of balance for your story, and the result is a charming chapter that's an absolute BLAST to read. Well done, well done, and try not to be so long with the next chapter, okay? Okay, good, we're agreed. Next chapter by Saturday, I ook forward to reading it. ;-)
Now, judging from all those food references, you can probably tell I haven't had lunch yet, so let's go rectify that. Bravo again, my friend!
Never Acquiesce. --CH
Author's Response: Wow, wow and wow chica. Seriously? Just, wow.\r\n\r\nI write along the lines of something that I\'d want to curl up with and read. I\'m not one to \'write for the masses\'. I take great pride in the words that I craft and I\'m very proud of my little story that could ;) And hello? When you have a beta like you for guidance, it just makes the story have that much more potential to be full of awesome.
