Heh - yes, and in fact, it turns out that he's what's referred to as a "Mary Sue" (i.e. a character who sort of appears to move the plot along but isn't fully developed) - which is not, I hear, a good thing.  (I had no idea about this when I created him.)  And I can definitely see the criticism there, though I've tried to round him out more in later fics -- because yeah, for a while there, it was as if he had absolutley nothing else to do but sit around and wait for Jim to call.  :o) I'm glad that you like him, though; it's nice to hear.
