I love that supposedly evolved Jim still is fighting the past. Great analogy.
Author's Response: Thanks! yeah, i don't think you can throw out a history like jim has with pam so easily.

Ooh, excellent use of metaphor and description of Jim's personal struggle he must be going through everyday.
Author's Response: thanks so much for the review! seriously, i love metaphors... too much fun for me!

I have to admit, I was a little perplexed by the significance of the 3 v. 1 button metaphor. I gather that it's supposed to mean that water (i.e., Karen) is the obvious choice, but grape soda (i.e., Pam), is the road-less traveled, and what he really wants. Am I missing something there?
I definitely think that Jim relates his old ways (Ham & Cheese sandwiches, grape soda) to his old self and his "new" ways (water, tuna sandwiches, new car) to his "new" self. Nonetheless, eventually, you are who you are, and old habits die hard. Interesting idea for a story.
Author's Response: Sorry, I guess I didn't make it as clear as I had hoped. Basically the 3 vs. 1 and the fic as a whole was that Karen is the smart grown-up choice, but Pam's what he really wants. And then he realizes that Karens aren't that hard to find, whereas you only come across a Pam once in a life time. Sorry!

Nothing is better then chocolate..but keep writing and I might changes my mind....
Author's Response: I agree, chocolate will be my downfall someday. Sorry, but this story is done.. I forgot to check the complete box!

Grape soda! I loved this cute little one-off. Only Jim would do something like that.
Author's Response: Yes, OldJim would so something like this.. writers, please bring OldJim back!

I love this - I love the analogy of Pam and Karen to grape soda and water.
Author's Response: Thanks! I'm glad you love!

I could just here the fizzing sound that can made when he popped it open, and it was that visual that made me smile the widest. Wow. What you have just done for a can of grape soda is AMAZING. Seriously! I loved this.
Author's Response: Your review makes me smile! Hehe... I'm glad you liked! I think now I have to start liking grape soda..

What a lovely, simple, evocative Jim moment. Love how you tied in his uncle and parents - suggesting how he has - and hasn't - evolved. And hooray for his finding his true self. Ah, the symbolism of grape soda...it's all in the tiny details.
Author's Response: Thanks so much for your sweet review! And no, Jim can't evolve. Just because I said so. ^_^

Yay, grape soda! (And rolled-up sleeves, and ham & cheese and playing pranks on Dwight and all other things that are good and right in the world!!)
Author's Response: Couldn't agree more lisahoo!

Yes! Yes! The grape soda is key to the existance of OldeSchoole! Jim! Roll up those sleeves, baby!
Dawesome story, by the way....You really captured the metaphysical significance of grape soda......Yeay!
Author's Response: YES!! Roll up those sleeves!!! Thanks for the review!

This made me think of Michael punching one of the buttons for Stanley - "You'll hate it." (I think it was peach iced tea - The Secret.)
Hurray for Jim's choice! I'm not sure what the significance is of 3 buttons for water and 1 for grape soda. Is it that grape soda is the more unusual choice? That water's a dime a dozen, but grape soda is ... the most awesome? (True of course, but what was the 3 vs. 1 trying to get across?)
Anyway, I enjoyed it. Enjoy your trip. And hey, did you need a nap because you had a pretzel loaded with all the sweet stuff earlier? Loved your comment about pretzel day.
Author's Response: hehe.. yeah, wasn't sure if the whole 3 vs. 1 was clear, but you got it. girls like karen are a dime a dozen, but girls like pam are much harder to find. sorry if i confused you! and no, i needed a nap so that i would be up for 24 hours straight, but then that went down the drain. i'm surprised that so many like the pretzel line!

But surely you're not saying Pam=grape soda=bad for Jim! Thanks for having him make the right choice even if it will rot out his teeth!
Author's Response: PERISH THE THOUGHT!! no, just saying that realistically, karen is the more practical girl for jim, but jim could care less about that. and i'm pretty sure jim has a crazy bad sweet tooth.

How proud am I? I am this proud ←→ ! Immeasurably proud that I was the fifth person to read this!! What I love!! So much!! And I hope I'm the first to review but this is going so long that I'm worried someone else will steal the garland of first reviewness... but it must all be said! What I love ♥ 1) You have nursing books? When I read that I thought....I would love to hear Starshine's point of view on the Health Care episode. 2) And then you bring up health and dentists and I believe everything you say more than my stupid friends because you have nursing books! 3) I love that he's in a quandry every freakin' day. 4) I love that you don't say things explicitly like Pam is grape soda blah blah blah and Three Buttons means "everyone would pick Karen" because I love fics that make me THINK and I love fics where there are multiple possible meanings. 5) I love that there are multiple possible meanings for what the three vs. one button may mean.
Final dumb note: You were asking for a beta on TWoP. I could only see one little tiny grammatical problem: because that's what his Uncle Brian, the doctor, always told him so. "Jim .... I'd cut out that word 'so'. That's it. Everything else flows like butter!
Author's Response: Muggins!! you're making me blush! now i feel bad for the voodoo spells yesterday.. ^_^ i'm so glad you got the whole "Karen's the 'smart' choice, but screw that" part. wasn't sure if that came through. and yes, i have lots of nursing books because i'm a nurse. and as for the health care episode? can i just say it ALMOST bugged me that they called it "spontaneous dental hydroplosion" because "spontaneous dental hydroplasia" would have made a lot more sense... yes, i'm dumb. and thanks for pointing out my bad grammar! will have to fix later..

Consider this your no calorie chocolate alternative - because this was just awesome. Personally, I generally always choose water simply because, that is what I grew up with and for me, and can satisfy any need I have. Or milk. But they don't sell milk in vending machines. But I love how the two drinks represent two very different choices, and how Pam smiled when she saw the soda, and how it is like, the talk will happen with karen, and great story.... now, go pack and nap, and don't eat chocolate or do evil cliffhangers
Author's Response: Thanks so much for the review! It's funny that I should write this, because truthfully, I hate grape soda. And I only ever drink water. But I love JAM even more, so.. yeah. And no cliffhangers! I forgot to mark this story as complete! it's done..
