Well. This is beautiful and devastating. Thank you for writing it.

Such a difficult read with its sadness and the foreshadowing you almost know but are still hoping . Extreamly well done!

This was a tragically beautiful piece. Several years ago my best friend's mom lost a child, the only boy (they had wanted to be surprised too) in much the same way, on the night of the baby shower, of all times. And as I was reading this story, I couldn't help but remember the polaroid my friend showed me of her mom holding her stillborn brother. I could only imagine the anguish of having to deliver a baby knowing you'd hear no tiny cry at the end. So very well done, and even though I'm crying so hard my throat hurts, I have nothing but praise for this story.

Author's Response:

You know. That's the one thing I kept thinking about when my friend was in the hospital. I can't imagine the situation being horrendous enough but to know that after you push and push and go through the labor, that at the end.. it makes me tear up every time I think about it. I seriously cannot imagine a bigger pain for any one person to go through. It's so incredibly heartbreakingly sad.

My friend has lots of pictures of her little girl. I've looked at them a few times but I can't bring myself to again. It just makes me cry and maybe a little angry? I don't know.

Anyway, sorry for the rambling, heh. Thank you so very much for reading, StarShine. I keep saying it but the praise this story has gotten has really touched me and your very kind review and words made me choke up. So really and sincerely, thank you.

Gorgeous and heartbreaking. The part that really set me off was:

"They were going to call him Ollie. And Olive Garden. And."

Just an amazing story. Thank you (and ow, my heart).

Author's Response: Oh, thank you so much, kshar, for reading and for your very lovely words. :)

I would say that, after your three month battle, you came out victorious.  This is beautiful.  It really rings true.  Pam's ambivalence at the outset of her pregancy, her guilt over it when she miscarries, Jim's support.  All of it rings so true.

I love how you have them hold Oliver and tell him stories.  My mom lost SIX babies - four miscarriages and two still-births.  The first was a still-birth and they wouldn't even let her hold the baby.  Can't imagine the anguish.

It is all so touching.  You did a splendid job.  It's painful but beautiful.

Author's Response:

Oh my gosh, thank you so much Vampiric. And I have to admit, I gasped out loud when I read the part about your mom.. and wow. I really can't imagine her not being able to say goodbye.. especially to her first loss. Yeah, definitely cannot imagine that. :(

But again- thank you. For your kind words, and for reading. It means a lot, truly.

Wow that was amazing, and yes, you made me cry. I wanted to hug them both so bad :(

Author's Response: I know, me too. :( Thank you, Hannah. You're awesome. :)

Very good, so heartbreaking but an unfortunate reality for many. Well done.

Author's Response: Aw, thank you so much, phillyjim. :)

I did like this story, for me, it got personal.

but that's fine, my mom had two miscarriages before me && one after.

the first two were within the first few weeks, but the one after, was five months into development.

I hardly ever ask my mom about it, since I'm an only child & I know how hard it was for her, with her religious beliefs && all to have to abort him.

I think he had down syndrome && it was either he die on delivery or abort now.

but enough about that, I really did like this story, sorry to harsh the mellow (:

Author's Response: No, no, mixedbreedgirl, no harshing of the mellow at all. I'm so glad you enjoyed this but am deeply sorry for the reasons it rang with you. That's so awful.. and I have to admit that it was part of my reluctance in posting this. Who wants to read a story and be reminded of stuff like that anyway? but I am glad that you liked it. Thank you again.

Oh, such heartbreaking. It was perfect in its heartbreak. I don't know what else to say besides that....

Author's Response: Thank you, Emily. Your words were perfect. :)

Well that certainly got to me. Their emotions were very truthful, way too realistic. Beautifully done.

A big hug for your friends.

Author's Response: Thank you so much, jazzfan. :)

So vivid and sad. My mother went through something like this, miscarrying after not being initially thrilled about the pregnancy, and from what she has said I think you capture that guilt and sorrow perfectly. I am warning a few pregnant fic-readers away from this story, which I hope you take as the compliment that it is meant to be- this is too real, too true.

Author's Response: Oh. Thank you so much, ngllisi, really. I am such a fan of your work so to read this before going off to work last night really put me in the best mood.. strangely enough. I'm so glad that you felt this to be real and vivid and that's truly the best compliment so thank you again.

"They were going to call him Ollie. And Olive Garden. And."

I'm crying like a big baby (no pun intended) every time I reread this line. It's so immensely sad and heartbreaking.

I LOVE this, I love this so much. Pam's initial reluctance, Jim's joy, her acceptance and excitement, their grief. It's so touching, and it will definitely stick with me for a long time.

Thanks for writing this. My thoughts are with your friend.

Author's Response: Thank you so much for your very sweet words, Corking. They really mean a lot to me. That line was one of my favorites, I give my nieces and my nephew random nicknames like that so it seemed fitting. :) I'm sorry it made you cry! but I'm so glad you enjoyed it. And thanks for your condolences as well. :)

I really had to work to keep it together while reading this.  As sad as it was to read, it must have been even harder to write.  You did an excellent job.

Author's Response: Oh, Nan. Thank you!! Yeah, it was hard to write especially when I began to write it but it was therapeutic in it's own way so it worked out nicely. You always leave such lovely reviews and you're just so sweet so thank you again! :)

This was lovely. You handled the sensitive subject matter beautifully and carefully (and accurately, I might add - I work in this field). Very well done.

Author's Response: Thank you so much shyshutterbug! I was really nervous about posting this story, so to hear from someone that would know that it rang true really means a lot to me. Thank you again!!
