Oh, man. I love this ending. I love it so much. I can just so easily picture this - very much in their voices and characters. And this was one of the first fics that made it click for me that Jim's denial in The Secret might have assumed outsized importance for Pam.

This is what I wish had happened, so that's high praise. Nice work with the angst but also the slow pacing of the revelations.

::::sigh:::: You did so much better with this than they did on the show! LOVE this story! SOOOOOO glad you resolved it and didn't leave it with the angst!

I know I've read this before, but can't remember what happens. I'm glad Jazz rec'd it :) Dumb question, though (not sure if you even check reviews anymore for old stories, but) what ep is this supposed to follow?

Author's Response: Glad you liked it! This takes place right after Dwight's Speech, when Jim decides to book a trip to Australia.

Just reread this tonight.  You did such a beautiful job.  The dialogue was great; interior monologues, great; wonderful pacing.  I just love this story!

Loved it!

I will take sappy over unresolved angst any day. :)   I love the way you write first person Jim.  I've never attempted it myself.  You've captured his expected reluctance to believe it's true and slight desperation while on the phone w/Pam perfectly.  Yay you!

Author's Response: Aw, thanks xoxoxo. Glad you thought I got his voice right. One of these days I'll be brave and do something in third person. Or, Jesu forfend, second person. :) Thanks for the review!

I absolutely loved this whole story, but especially the last chapter, and their last conversation. It was so them. Saying A LOT with very few words. I think you portrayed them both perfectly.

Author's Response: Thank you! I liked the idea of that minimalist conversation. Glad you liked it too :) Thanks for the review!

I really enjoyed this story! Thanks for writing and sharing it with us :)

I really FELt the scene where Pam arrives at the house and Mark's reactions are hilarious.

Author's Response: That means a lot to me that you really felt it, thank you! Glad you enjoyed it. Thanks for taking time to review and sorry I didn't respond sooner! :)

They just needed...something, right? One or the other of them just needed to say something! Aw, S2, back when things hurt so much but so sweetly. Drunk Jim, confused Pam, Roy being his usual insensitive self (not evil, just not particularly attentive)...you capture that angst so perfectly, and resolve in a way that could have happened. Brava!

Author's Response: Yeah, exactly; I have half a dozen other bits started with just that premise--somebody say something! If only...but I'm glad you liked it. Thanks for the review, lis, it's always good to hear from you. :)

Aw, that was adorable. I felt like the conversation where Pam said she loved him too could've been a little bit deeper and it was a little harsh for Pam to say "Well, not years" x) But I really enjoyed it. Thank you so much for continuing this story!

Author's Response: Glad you liked it! That wasn't meant to come off harsh, but I guess I can see how it would seem that way. :) Still, I haven't done AU before and it was fun to give it a shot. Thanks for reading!

Callisto, I'm touched...

I feel all off-balance and wrong when I try to write AU, so I have to congratulate you on pulling it off so well. I was particularly impressed with their final phone conversation, how you got so much done with so little. Well done. I already want to see something new from you. :)

Author's Response: I have never tried to write AU for exactly that reason, so thank you! It feels very weird to go off-canon. I'm glad that phone conversation didn't seem too cheesy (?) with just a bunch of monosyllabic questions and answers, but they seem to like the less-is-more approach to their communication... Anyway, thanks so much for all your support, and I hope to see some yummy frosting from you soon! :)

Yeah, I'm glad you didn't leave us hanging... I thought you might. It's nice to have a happy ending! Great. Really loved this... made me search out Casino Night videos on Youtube...

Author's Response: I seriously thought about it, and it would've been more realistic, probably, but I'm a sucker for the happy ending. And it's my story, dammit. :) Thanks kgreene! Glad you enjoyed it. You gonna throw us another cold open before Christmas? ;)

What a cathartic chapter...I like how Jim's thoughts/emotions are right there, so raw. (Writing something in a tricky complicated way doesn't necessarily mean it's complicated - and vice versa...and that's a very poorly phrased compliment, btw ;-) For instance this line: I felt suddenly light, like something huge and heavy had dropped away from me at the aknowledgment of its existence. Followed by: And just like that, I fell back to earth with a thud. That just perfectly captures Jim's rollercoaster of emotions during that night. And then again, your last line also suggests so much relief/realease, in such simple clear terms. Very nicely done ;-) (And maybe it's the season, but resolving the angst felt like a little gift, so thanks.)

Author's Response: Ooh, I'm glad you liked that particular bit of the rollercoaster--that's exactly what I was going for in that whole exchange. Yay! Part of me really feels like I shouldn't have ended it the way I did, and maybe it is the season, but I just couldn't leave it unresolved. And all of my AU ideas are really designed to just hurry up the process and get them to figure things out sooner, so there's my justification. :) And I appreciate that about the last line--I wasn't really sure about it, frankly, so that makes me feel much better. Thanks so much for the review Colette! Glad to have you along for this one.

Gah love it!  It's so them.  Especially how they don't actually say what they're feeling and it's so succinct.

I feel so much happier this isn't left in unresolved angsty-land.  I like Happy Waiting JAM land so much better :D  Great job!

Author's Response: Glad you liked it WildBerryJam! Thanks. We all love a happy ending, right? :)

Gah. The truth comes out. This was beautiful, and hardly sappy. I'm so glad you didn't leave it in the no-man's land! And selfishly speaking, I really needed this tonight, so thankyouthankyouthankyou.

This was a great read, from beginning to end. I love discovering all the little ways they would have figured it out without things like season finales and sweeps and summer breaks getting in the way. And I don't know why exactly, but it's somehow all the more satisfying when there's a journey across an ocean of angst to finally get to that happy place. You paced this perfectly, with just the right amount of each. And you didn't make us wait too long in between parts, so bonus gift!

Fantastic work, as always callisto. You continue to prove why you are one of my favorite writers on this board.

Author's Response: Blanca, thank you. I always love hearing from you! I am still feeling a little guilty (?) for doing the 'easy thing' and going with the happy ending, but hey, it's the holidays. :) I'm happy you liked it, and I have to agree that there's something satisfying about reliving and exploring the angst knowing there's hope on the other side. Thanks for coming along with me on this one. :)

WOW this was awesome. i usually don't read things in the past because i don't like seeing Pam & Jim not together, i like reading smut too, who doesn't???

but WOW!!!
this was so good, this is how the actual show should have played out, it would have been so much better. I always get so giddy reading waiting for them to end the angst and they did!!!
i could relate and feel the pain of Jim while he had no much regret for what he did.

You Need to finish the story and see how Pam tells Roy and how Jim Buys a ticket for Pam to go to Australia with her, that would be a good way to end it.

it was so good btw. keep up the good work!! :)

Author's Response: Thanks Jerky Jerk Face! (Nice username, btw.) I've had this inexplicable desire to relive the angst and rewrite it with a happier ending, so, this story. But I'm sorry to say, that's where it ends. Glad you enjoyed it though! :)

Aww that's so cute. I love her coming to see him and then the call late at night. I can't wait to see what's next.

Author's Response: Glad you liked it. But I'm afraid that's where it ends. This was just a short little exploration of how things might have gone differently...from here, it's all up to the imagination. :)

This was wonderful :) You always write so eloquently. Just so you know, it's Aqua Teen, not Team :)

Author's Response: Gah! I knew that, I really did. It's fixed, and thank you. Thanks for the compliments LuxTenebrae, I appreciate it. :)

callisto, I am just so full of love right now!  For you, for this story, for the Ghost of Christmas present, for breakast for dinner...for the fact that my girls, callisto and Talkative inspire each other.  Life is good (it's the little things)  :) This was such a satisying read.  It really was.  My heart was hammering along with Jim's.  Mark, you fucking cheapskate, can’t you ever buy the coated stuff?   Too funny!  I'd say pretty much everyone is familiar with that disgusting feeling. This paragraph broke my heart:  "I wasn’t always like this. I used to be happy..."  I could just picture Future!Jim sitting in the stairwell with Dwight in Money.  I love that, even in his confused, drunken, miserable state of mind, Jim still notices and appreciates the differences in Pam's appearance.

A surge of wild hope bloomed up in my chest, and I bit the inside of my cheek to keep my face neutral.  I've always loved the phrase "wild hope."  There's just something about it.  Random, I know, but I just had to mention that.  It conjures up a very specific feeling, so perfect here.

I, for one, am thrilled that you let them work it out.  It allowed me to enjoy the angst that much more.

Happy--that's me.  Awesome--that's you.

Author's Response: Hello miss Nan! Good to hear from you. 'It's the most wonderful time of the year...' So I couldn't leave it in a dark place. (Besides, the way Talkative did it is just untouchable in its awesomeness.) I'm glad you liked the bit about the aspirin (I assumed it's a universal experience) and the part where he's remembering he used to be happy. Jim just hurts me all through S2. As for the bit about 'wild hope'-- I don't know where I first read it but it's also a phrase I have always loved, so funny you should mention that! Anyway, glad you liked it, thanks, as always, for your enthusiastic and glowing feedback, and...Merry Christmas! :D

Jesus, Mark go to bed! and stay in there forever! Every story, it never fails, that dude seems to wander out at the most inappropriate times ;) Not too sappy for me. Thanks for such quick updates!

Author's Response: Ah, yes. Poor Mark, doomed to always be a plot device. Glad you liked it though! :)

I can't dry swallow pills at all. Not even the teeny tiny ones. But heck, it took me 15 years before I could even pretend to swallow pills at all, so, I guess its to be expected.
File that under "stuff I didn't need to know, nor did I care to know, about EmilyHalpert"

It was Pam. :)

She said yes.

Author's Response: I suppose I could have added that it was Pam, but less is more, right? Oh, and EH, I was counting on the fact that NO ONE can dry-swallow cheap uncoated aspirin. :) Thanks for reading!
