Now that's what I call a haunted house. I also like the idea of Pam being haunted by Jim in a deeper sense. Perfect dose of sensuality - while leaving some of the heavy lifting to our imaginations.

Author's Response: Thanks, Colette!  Glad it wasn't too heavy-handed.  ;)

Finally, indeed. This was so satisfying to read; it's got to be Pam who makes the first decisive move like this. Only a phone call away. Great dialogue too.

Author's Response: Thank you so much!  It is really time for her to do something, right?

To quote Ms. Beesly, I did not expect that! Seriously, didn't see it coming, but how perfect. Very clever - and it has the added bonus of meaning Jim and Pam are married...kind of a two for one deal!

Author's Response:

Thank you! See, these two find some solace, Jim and Pam get married, and we get to enjoy the story- win, win, win!

How happy did this make me? '...it's clear they want exactly the same thing and right now.' Oh yeah, that's what I'm talking about.

So many great touches - his screensaver, him doing her laundry, Uncle Larry (I actually have one by that name, so I had the perfect visual)...all the details are just right. Ah, lovely, lovely. As usual!

Author's Response:

Thank you, thank you, Colette! Just another attempt to shamelessly use fanfic to manipulate a more perfect world. (And I have an Uncle Roy but I didn't think I should use that particular name!)

As much as I've often wanted to throttle Pam, I did nothing but ache for her in this one. When they have their awkward hug and he whispers in her ear...heartache on a page.

I also like how you made her in turns angry and feisty too - the image of her wanting to pull Karen out of her chair by her hair was especially great. Pam is all the more empathetic for not being saintly in her suffering.

Okay, ready for more firsts...and seconds...and...never claimed I wasn't greedy!

Author's Response:

This is my thing.  Do I think if you've got Jim Halpert standing before you telling you that he's in love with you that your response should be "I can't?"  Hell no.  But do I sympathsize that Pam probably needed some time to deal with what was going on in her life?  Absolutely.

I don't blame Jim for packing up and shipping out - and I don't blame him for contemplating moving on.  I just wanted to write something where we finally get to see both sides.  I'm very pro-Pam at the moment.  Not sure why.

Anyway - thank you.  More firsts -coming up!!

Reviewer: Colette Signed 10
Date: October 26, 2006 Title: Chapter 2: First Fight

I really appreciate how you cleared up Pam's misconceptions so quickly - and got them to fess up to each other without draaaaawing it out. Which is exactly what, in one way or another, I have the sinking feeling they're going to do on the show. Wouldn't it be so refreshingly non-sitcom-ish if they just got them together and explored the comic/romantic potential there, instead of the tired TV love triangle scenario? No matter how originally they interpret it (and these are great writers, so they'll probably surprise me), I still wish they'd just...not.

Anyway - am really enjoying your story. Love when Jim is semi-teasing her and says 'To your fancy new apt.?' Very Jim (and that's a good thing.)  I love your writing style - clean and to the point, but so emotionally evocative. I could so feel Pam here...and, I agree, I'm feeling very Go-Pam! these days too.

Author's Response:

In my world she lasted 3 weeks of keeping her mouth shut.  Torturous on screen - easy peasy when it's within a few paragraphs.

I can't tell you how un-anxious I am to see a love triangle.  It'll be Jim/Pam/Roy redux and a complete yawnfest IMHO.

I was striving for clean - based on the writing discussion (re: Stephen King).  I'm bad like that.  I'm always consulting a thesaurus when sometimes I should just sit back and let it happen.  So here was my attempt.

The thing I love about your reviews is that you are always so specific - and that is MUCH appreciated.

Reviewer: Colette Signed 10

A great example of how a story doesn't necessarily have to be full-out explicit to acheive maximum steam. The pacing is perfect - the sense of mounting (TWSS, I know) tension/anticipation is palpable. And after all the time they've waited (3 years of foreplay?), I'm of the JAM school that says they wouldn't be able to keep their hands off each other or wait more than a Nano-second (wink wink) before getting down to business. But I agree - not actually in the theatre the first time....so get them home already!

As always, your dialogue and characterization are exactly right. Loved Jim wanting to see her in her glasses. And when he kisses her eyes by the car. Such scrumptious details. Yum.

Author's Response:

Thanks Colette!  You clever thing you.  I do think that it'll happen pretty quickly and I really don't know how she'd be able to live with herself if she made him wait too long. ;)

Hopefully I'll get enough of my NaNo work done to post something more this weekend.

We shall see. :)

Oh, delicious. Just enough steam and some great dialogue too - I love when Jim says: "But can we get back to our scheduled program now?" And a sweet, sexy ending to boot. Well, once again, I feel better now, happily ensconced in this parallel universe. (Eases the dread of what I'm expecting to see on tonight's episode.)

Author's Response:

Yeah well.  I needed to do something.  Every week I say "Give yourself a break.  Stay out of the spoiler thread."  Result?  I never heed my own advice.  Every Thurs I'm sick to my stomach - on pins and needles - watching the show.  I knew from the get go it was never going to be sunshine and roses but the TORTURE of waiting for these two to get their acts together.  Too. Much.

Maybe I should just skip watching tonight and head downtown to see JK in person.  'Cept I've never read any of DFW's work and would feel like a stalker-y fangirl.

Not that I don't fit that description occasionally anyway. ;)

My goodness, those forearms are indeed worthy of poetry. Hard to pick which I like best...third and fourth are especially tasty. And, for what it's worth...I think something will change - or I may have to personally grab Pam by the collar and explain a couple of things to her (in fanfic of course!) Wow. This really is a departure for you. Really powerful - not that your other stuff isn't (you know I dig it much!) but this was really spare and just so close to the bone. I like Pam's determination to get past her Pam-ish-ness and also Jim's mixture of resolve/realization that she still owns him. Bothof their conflicts are just right there on the page (or screen, as it were.) Well done. Seriously.

Oh and, I'm glad I'm not the only one who went over to the angsty side of the street post-phone call!

(btw, there's a great short story by David Foster Wallace - actually it's in Brief Interviews,  fave of our old friend JK - called Forever Overhead which also uses the imagery of a high diving board re: taking a leap into the unknown/next phase of life. One of my favorite stories, really poignant (and quite different than much of DFW's other work, so even if you don't usually like him, you might like this!)

Author's Response:

As always, thanks so much for the thoughtful review.

Yes, I decided I'd try something a little different - just slightly.  Obviously, the spare narrative/prose doesn't come naturally to me, so this was more of a little exercise than escape. But oh well.

I have read Brief Interviews, actually, and I liked that story as well.  The high dive inspiration for this one, though, came from something that happened to me at the rec department when I was about seven or eight (except it involved being hassled by two older brothers and yes, the water did hurt like hell when I hit!).

Thanks again for the review....

But these ditties remain a joy

Even if Jim is one confused boy

When will Greg Daniels get his head out of his ass?

Okay, I tried! You know I'm insane for these limericks (or maybe just insane?) and these set a new standard, even for you. Booze Cruise may be my fave yet (and not just because it contained the line: Meredith holds Captain Jack's stick.) Seriously, these manage to be funny, surprising and still capture that S2 thing that I SO miss in S3. Fantastic, you!

Author's Response:

Why are you so self-deprecating about your limerick-al abilities? You always manage to come up with a fabulous one in your reviews and rest assured I'm keeping track of all of them for a joint collection to be published and released someday! I know what you mean about that S2 quality - I think it's called hope. In any case the S2 triangle seemed less acute or something. BC is my fave to date as well, however Casino Night is coming along someday.

And this line? When will Greg Daniels get his head out of his ass? I may just have to steal. You're the best!

Especially with Par5 back in the fold.

Rhyming Kelly with smelly
Put a laugh in my belly.
As for Roy going to hell
That line made me kvell.
Wish that were true of the show on my telly.

Thanks for the memories, my friend!

Author's Response: Well, hello there missy! So lovely of you to drop by and grace us with not 1 but 2(!) fabulous limerick responses! You really ought to collect these and send them to the writers or something - maybe you could go on the payroll as the poetry consultant (like a medical consultant on ER, but with rhymes.) Well done, Ms. Par!

Author's Response:

Can I let you in on a secret? It's easier to come up with these recaps rather than reinvent the wheel and write a truly original fic these days! Seriously, though, I just really really really REALLY love writing these, it keeps me out of trouble, and if at least one person likes them, it keeps me going on to the next batch. You know how much I love these things...how do you come up with so much?!? Way too many perfect lines to cite, but a couple I loved: the stanza in the Dundies that begins By the time Pam falls off her stool...This night has turned out pretty cool; and in OO, Deep down Jim's a...work days just slipping by. Perfect.

And The Fire, start to finish...fantastic (Pam's panties were in a bunch.) Literally laughed out loud. Oh boy, now I get to go read the second batch! Yippee!

Author's Response: How do I come up with so much? More like how do I cut enough to make them episode summaries rather than complete retellings. Well, with such great source material, how can I go astray? Thanks for cheering me on. You're the best!

Yay for these! The last stanza of Alliance is freaking fantastic. And using bellicose in a limerick? Truly impressive.

Pam takes notice as Jim's talents shone
Her smile displays a more intimate tone.

Oh, I remember that look on her face as he ran by - like she was intoxicated just at the sight of him running around in his shorts, being all MVP. Made me feel a little woozy too. And sweeping Katy off her feet...how smooth was he? What fun to remember it all in poetic verse like this!

Thanks for the great intermission from my day of bracing myself for the worst tonight (this is just getting mean, you greg daniels, you!) You are still Poet Laureate of All Hussies.

Author's Response:

Colette, after "spontaneous dentohydroplosion" using "bellicose" is a piece of cake! But not the ice cream kind cuz Meredith can't eat that ;) It was fun to do "research" for these by watching the episodes again. Now onto season 2!

Word. Why is Greg Daniels so mean? 'King of the Hill' was funny. It didn't hurt to watch. It didn't toy with our emotions. Ugh. Maybe it will all be okay. *crosses fingers*

Let me begin by saying, this line is absolutely hilarious. These continue to be SO great. Especially loved The Dundies and Office Olympics.
