Just a little one-shot I actually started a long time ago.  It's set immediately post DM Infinity and is a shameless bit of fluff with a pinch of steam.  :o)

As always, feedback is much appreciated!

This is absolutely beautiful. A thoroughly enjoyable, perfectly in character little look at the beginnings of Jim and Pam's relationship. Fantastic :)

Author's Response: Thanks so much -- so glad you enjoyed it!

Oh this is fantastic. Seriously. It's brilliant. I love the drawer of barettes because really that is so Pam. Her explanation for how she got to wear her hair the way she does was brilliant, she doesn't make it purposefully into some extended metaphor, it just subtly seeps through. Love Jim's replacing the barettes with mousse as well. Just fantastic!

Author's Response: Wow, thank you so much!  You just know Pam is an organized freak like that :)  So glad you enjoyed it and thanks for reading!

Summary:

You don't want to wake up one day and realize that both of you are unhappy because you weren't the person he thought you were. There's no way you can compete with Fantasy Pam.

Oh this is beautiful. I can totally see this being an issue for them and you played it out so perfectly. Jim's little speech about why he loves Pam was just spot on. Absolutely fantastic :)

Author's Response: It would be really nice if someone made a speech like that about me *sigh* I thought it sounded like something Jim would say. I'm glad you liked it!

*thud* Oh my goodness this is amazing. I don't know how I've missed it for so long but I just caught up with all ten chapters and you literally took my breath away. I usually like to try and stop, if not every chapter then at least every couple, when I read a longer story for the first time, but I literally could not bring myself to pause through this.
As a result I've probably forgotten a lot of the more specific stuff I wanted to say but I think the fact that I just read straight through this (with frequent verbal reactions) says a lot.

Your characterisation is so accurate, I understood where Pam was coming from with regards to Jim and Roy, and yet I felt every bit of Jim's heartbreak along with him. The peripheral characters like Jim's brothers aren't just thrown in for fun or to pad out the story, they're alive and interesting and unique in their own rights. Some of the descriptions throughout this really got to me, just achingly accurate and so poignant. I really can't wait for more :)

Author's Response:

Whoa -- I feel almost as if I should apologize to you for having read all ten chapter straight!  (They're a wee heavy on the angst, I realize.) :o)

That said, I'm glad you enjoyed it and found it believable.  I know I write Pam as incredibly frustrating, but I really don't know that she'd be able to do & say all the right things in these situations; I think it would take her (and anybody else, for that matter) some time to get a handle on all that's happening.

Thanks so much for your review!!

*sigh*
This was just brilliant, I kept glancing at my scroll bar and wishing more scrolling space would just magically appear so I wasn't at the end. Anyway this was wonderful, the awkwardness in the bedroom was just so painfully realistic. Pam's meltdown and Jim's reaction was spot on, I could almost completely see it in my head. Looking forward to more.

Author's Response:

Oh, thank you so much.  :o) So glad you found the awkward bedroom stuff realistic.  (Now that was a hell of a sentence, yes? Hee.)   And I must confess that one thing I regret we never got to see on the show was Pam just breaking down in front of Jim, because you know he'd be so sweet....sigh.

Thanks for reviewing!

Another wonderful chapter here, painfully real. Roy's reaction is absolutely spot on. Looking forward to more.

Author's Response:

So glad you enjoyed it!  Like I said, it wasn't the most fun chapter in the world to write -- but that probably has as much to do with my having written a gazillion break up scenes over the past year and a half as it does with my impatience to get to the good stuff, LOL.

Thanks for reviewing!

Brilliant as ever. I love how integrated the s2 timeline with Michael's birthday into your story. The metaphor about them on the ice was absolutely perfect to sum up where they are at this point in your story.
I didn't think the last part stretched the bounds at all, it seemed perfectly in character to me. Pam's had a massive upheaval and I can totally see her, despite her growing independence, still hesitating at moving fast.
Looking forward to more!

Author's Response:

Thanks so much -- the ice skating metaphor just came out of nowhere, so I went with it.  :o) And thanks for your feed back re: the last part.  I know there are varying perspectives on Pam and how she'd have handled such a thing, but I've always been inclined to believe that she'd go very slowly and cautiously, given (as you said) the massive upheaval she's undergone.

Thanks for reviewing!

*flails* oh this is brilliant, I look forward to every update on this story and this one certainly more than lived up to my high expectations.

You've really done a brilliant job of recreating the tension between them here. Just wonderful :)

Author's Response:

I swear, that *flails* kills me -- seriously, it conjures the most hilarious image.  :o) So glad you're enjoying this, and I really appreciate your taking the time to tell me so.  Flail on, sister!  :o)

Oh my goodness, I have so many wonderful things to say about this and I'm afraid I'm going to forget them. This is just ... unbelievably brilliant. I mean, this story is the only one I really look forward to, like actively look forward to the next update and you never disappoint. This might be the best chapter so far. It's so perfectly in character for both of them. The banter is perfect, both of their attitudes and thoughts feel spot on. I just really can't say enough good things. Absolutely fantastic stuff, this :)

Author's Response:

I tell you, it never gets old (and never ceases to amaze me) to hear that someone is actually looking forward to my updates!  Seriously -- by this point in the story, I almost expect everyone to have totally lost interest or something. :o) It's really great to hear that you're still enjoying it and looking forward to more -- and as I said in the author's note, the husband is out of town, so I'll be writing and updating fairly quickly.  :o)

Thanks for reviewing!

*flails*

It occured to me today that I hadn't seen an update of this for a while and when I came to check.... to my delight and horror I realised I'd missed two new chapters! In my defence, I have just recently left America after travelling after a year of study abroad and come home to England but still, two whole chapters?! I'm sorry I missed them when they appeared because I am usually good at keeping up, this is in fact the only story I'm actively waiting for updates on and somehow I missed it? So that was a long and rambling way to say sorry I lost track but I'm back now.

This chapter was just fantastic. You are so comfortable writing both Jim and Pam that I can just slip into this story like it's playing out right in front of me. You really captured the teasing and fun of Jim and Pam with the added twist of the excitement of a new relationship. A really fun chapter this, just fantastic.

Author's Response: Oh my god - no need to apologize!  Seriously!  I'm so glad you enjoyed the chapter, and it's always incredibly flattering to hear that a reader finds the voices believable.  THanks so much for taking the time to review!

Oh. My. Goodness. This is amazing. This is amazing enough to make me use full stops in a grammatically uncorrect way just to try and explain how amazing it is. It's CAPSLOCK AMAZING.

The opening of this chapter really brilliant expresses the initial awkwardness of the moment. And the rest is wonderful, a very sensual description, detailed without seeming like a simple play-by-play and retaining the essence of the characters throughout.

As I said, CAPSLOCK AMAZING!

Author's Response: Capslock amazing??? Seriously?   WOW!  :o)  (Honestly -- I'm totally flattered.)  I'm really glad you found it believable, and I really appreciate your taking the time to review.  :o)

*sigh* This is, as ever, wonderful. I love the slight edge of disbelief and wonder in everything Jim and Pam say and do in this chapter because I definitely think that's something they'd have experienced in the early stages of this relationship that's been so long in the coming. Just wonderful, brilliantly in character as usual :)

Author's Response: I wish we got to see more of that wonder and disbelief on the show, because I definitely think it's there (or rather, would be there).  Thanks so much for your review, shootingstars!  :o)

*sigh* This was absolutely perfection, seriously. I've read an insane amount of Jim/Pam fics and a fair few of them have included a proposal but this is by far the best I've read. That line "I don't see what anyone sees in anyone but you" is just a brilliant choice, perfectly sums up Jim.

She then spent the next five minutes staring at her monitor until she remembered what it was for.

That is a brilliant end to a wonderful chapter. I like this story because I love the idea of their relationship developing within the old framework of teasing each other. Also, Jim is adorable.

By the way, you might want to alter your summary - it still reads that part 3 is up so even though it's at the top of the 'new list' some people might not notice it's been updated.
