I hadn't been here in forever, and I just happened in during lunch and what should await me but this little gem? Perfect. This is exactly how it should have happened. I could just see their hesitation, feeling their way slowly, drawn out and the little grin at the end was so perfectly in character. Masterfully written. Thanks for this!

This is sad, of course, but so very in character and beautiful. The part about seeing Cece with the bear and waves of grief really rang true, as did Jim and Pam's interactions. Well done.
This was wonderful. I loved her "ahha" realizations coming through the conversation with her friends. Why could this not have happened? LOL
Well hello! I haven't read any fic for awhile - been a busy summer - and this was a great one to start back with. I'm really enjoying your take on the next season. Everything is in character and believable, and I love this line:" Cece never really was an only child, was she?” *claps loudly*

I enjoyed this - having Spencer as a sounding board worked for me, and I especially liked this - it's the weird kind of connections your brain makes sometimes:

I thought that would be something they'd discuss on the way home. Thanks so much for posting that idea in the challenges thread. It really helped me figure out how to round out the chapter. Their wanting time to slow down really rings true. Love the banter in the beginning. But also, as a parent, I wanted to suggest that they use the Elmo video as the motivation to use the potty.

I like the Jim you've painted here. Aside from his apparent "never taking things seriously" work persona, this Jim is serious on the inside.
Author's Response: Thanks, jazzfan. I really think that him never taking things seriously leaves him as too one dimensional of a character. I think (maybe I over analyze too much) that he kind of goofs around at work because he's not serious about the job, he just wants the money so he can support his family, you know? Thank you so much for letting me know you liked this side of Jim's character. It really is nice to read that it felt real, since we don't see this side of him, and I feel like I invented it a little. Thanks for the support! :)

Jim's reaction to Casino Night is one of my favorite things to muse about, so I really love your subject matter from the get-go.

Author's Response: Thanks! Yeah, I imagine his thoughts would be all over the place right now. He still loves her but she's completely broken his heart and devastated his world. I'm sure there's a good bit of anger and resentment mixed in with the pain.

I'm glad you addressed this: "He took another long sip of his beer, trying to swallow his curiosity about that date she went on, the memory of hearing about it coming back with a gut punching force. With a shake of his head, he let a few seconds of silence linger." That moment was one of the most heartwrenching of the series for me, and it's not visited very often in fanfic.

I'm actually going to touch on that one more time in the next chapter, I agree, not many fics include it, but I think just the look on his face when he hears it is a reason enough to bring it up in this story. It's very heartwrenching, I completely agree. I think that combined with how she cuts him off really pushes Jim toward Karen, so I'm going to explore what it would have been like had he been able to talk about it with her. I am so happy you're enjoying this story, more will be on the way soon :)
Love the premise - this is one of those points in the story arcs where you always say "what if." My only quibble is that I don't think Jim would have said "I miss you" first. I think he would have waited for her to make the first move, even if it was a baby step.
