Bio:
After being raised by feral dogs deep in the heart of Appalachia for my first 17 years, I rescued a group of imperiled socioanthopologists from certain doom at the hands of some moonshiners in an undisclosed mossy holler of my homeland. Silly with gratitude, they taught me to read and eventually, to make letters with a pencil. I'm continuing that learning process by writing fan fiction here.
As you can see, I'm still having trouble with run-on sentences and cliches. Yet I've come so far.

Oh, and I love music - especially jazz.

I hadn't been here in forever, and I just happened in during lunch and what should await me but this little gem? Perfect. This is exactly how it should have happened. I could just see their hesitation, feeling their way slowly, drawn out and the little grin at the end was so perfectly in character. Masterfully written. Thanks for this!

Author's Response: Thanks, jazzy. :) That conversation was brutal to write, I'll admit. I'm glad it felt authentic. Thanks for the review! I appreciate your time.

This is sad, of course, but so very in character and beautiful. The part about seeing Cece with the bear and waves of grief really rang true, as did Jim and Pam's interactions. Well done.

I enjoyed this - having Spencer as a sounding board worked for me, and I especially liked this - it's the weird kind of connections your brain makes sometimes:

Very sweet, and I could really hear Pam in this exchange in particular:

“Thank you, by the way, for telling people we work with about that.”

“You’re welcome,” she shrugs.

“Is nothing sacred?”

“Of course it is, sweetie. Of course it is,” she tapped his hand as he held onto the gear shift.

“Yeah, sure.”

“I love you,” she tilted her head to the side and batted her eye lashes.

Author's Response: Thank you! It's tough to keep their banter always in character so I'm always thrilled and relieved to see when I've done it well. I thought that would be something they'd discuss on the way home. Thanks so much for posting that idea in the challenges thread. It really helped me figure out how to round out the chapter. You're the best! :)

This was so very sweet. I especially loved the image of Jim sitting there reading the garden party book to CeCe.

Author's Response: Thank you so much jazzfan! Jim and Cece sitting together while he wrote was my favorite image, so happy you liked it! Their wanting time to slow down really rings true. Love the banter in the beginning. But also, as a parent, I wanted to suggest that they use the Elmo video as the motivation to use the potty.

Oh right, they're not real people. I keep forgetting.

Author's Response: I keep forgetting too lol The part where Dwight says children grow up so fast and before you know it, they're out of the house was definitely the inspiration for this chapter. Happy you liked it! More Cece and Elmo on the way... but not too much, too much would be overkill lol :)

I like the Jim you've painted here. Aside from his apparent "never taking things seriously" work persona, this Jim is serious on the inside.

Author's Response: Thanks, jazzfan. I really think that him never taking things seriously leaves him as too one dimensional of a character. I think (maybe I over analyze too much) that he kind of goofs around at work because he's not serious about the job, he just wants the money so he can support his family, you know? Thank you so much for letting me know you liked this side of Jim's character. It really is nice to read that it felt real, since we don't see this side of him, and I feel like I invented it a little. Thanks for the support! :)

Cheers to you for staying on this horse. My fav part of this one was the phone call conversation - felt very real and in character.

Author's Response: Thanks, I was most worried about that phone call, so it means a great deal to me to see that it was in character! Thanks so much, I really appreciate all of the support! :)

Jim's reaction to Casino Night is one of my favorite things to muse about, so I really love your subject matter from the get-go.

"But she can't" I could definitely believe his thought process here - and it's true. At that moment, she couldn't. Well done.

Hope things are looking up for you, TEN.

Author's Response: Thanks! Yeah, I imagine his thoughts would be all over the place right now. He still loves her but she's completely broken his heart and devastated his world. I'm sure there's a good bit of anger and resentment mixed in with the pain.

I'm glad you addressed this: "He took another long sip of his beer, trying to swallow his curiosity about that date she went on, the memory of hearing about it coming back with a gut punching force. With a shake of his head, he let a few seconds of silence linger." That moment was one of the most heartwrenching of the series for me, and it's not visited very often in fanfic.

Author's Response: Thanks! I'm actually going to touch on that one more time in the next chapter, I agree, not many fics include it, but I think just the look on his face when he hears it is a reason enough to bring it up in this story. It's very heartwrenching, I completely agree. I think that combined with how she cuts him off really pushes Jim toward Karen, so I'm going to explore what it would have been like had he been able to talk about it with her. I am so happy you're enjoying this story, more will be on the way soon :)

Love the premise - this is one of those points in the story arcs where you always say "what if." My only quibble is that I don't think Jim would have said "I miss you" first. I think he would have waited for her to make the first move, even if it was a baby step.

Please continue.

Author's Response: Thanks so much! I'm so happy that you're liking this story so far. I toyed with who should say it first, but ultimately I thought it would be interesting to show how quickly Jim falls back into old habits, you know? Pam will make a move though, somehow and some way. Happy you like it! More on the way soon! :)
