YAY Dwight & Angela! This sounded so spot on--I think you really got their voices. And the end still has me giggling. I can't quite get over the madness of "abnormally large earlobes" and the insane sweetness of "I think you're beautiful." OH Dwight.

Author's Response:

They're so bizarrely sweet. Thank you so much!

Ohmygod. You are amazing. This is amazing. The bonus Dwight made my head explode and now I'll be looking for Toby anytime Dwight says "Question."

So innventive and weird and hot...I think the combination just makes this perfect.

I hadn't thought about how I'll be responding to Dwight's "Question"... but now I'll be looking for Toby, too!

Glad you liked it!

OHMYGOD.  How is this perfect?  How did you get inside Dwight's head?

I adored every line of this.  Every line.  I literally want to quote the entire thing back to you because it was all amazing.

The beginning was incredible.  It sounds so much like Dwight, it's scary.  The headline made me start cracking up, and I really never stopped through the rest of this.

I think the highlight was the Michael vs. Jim debate.  This:

Michael has his advantages, although height isn't one of them.  He's better with women than Jim is, but since when is that necessary to take on the universe?  Dwight would much rather his partner be able to move objects with his mind than to have sex with his boss.

made me start clapping with glee.

And then this:

He'd be hiding behind a tree wearing a green striped tie and a plaid shirt, and he'd run and jump into his X-Earth that is no match whatsoever for the Great Levitating Trans-Am.  Dwight and Jim would chase him around corners and down side streets until smashhh!  They'd intercept him at an inters...section.  Bits and pieces of metal and glass would go flying everywhere.  Dwight would pull him out of his car by the collar, and then Jim would probably say something dumb that nobody would laugh at.  But Dwight would laugh, right in Andy's face, because he's pathetic.  And a wuss.

My stomach hurts I laughed so hard.  It's making me laugh again as I leave this review.

I'm pretty sure this is one of the best Office fics ever.  YOU are a fanfic superhero.

This was really, really lovely. You get this sense from them on the show that even though things are insanely awkward, and they're both so hurt and unsure, they would still do anything to help each other if need be, and you captured that feeling so well here.

Really loved the last bit of conversation, which was so touching and perfectly in-character.

Author's Response: I'm so glad you think the conversation was in character - it's hard to capture the way people really speak in writing, so I'm pleased you think it worked! Thanks for the review!

Really liked your view on Karen here--a pretty cool gal but one who's abnormally insecure because she's landed herself in an icky situation that she doesn't entirely understand. Could definitely see her hiding the VM as an act of desperation--she finally had a really nice moment with Jim, and it would ruin it to let Pam back in again.

And good job on character voices! Your Michael was great :)

Author's Response: Perfect explanation of Karen! Nice job! That's exactly how I feel about her. Except each week I lose a little more respect for her because I'm like, "Why are you still with him? It's called self-respect!" But then I think, "Would I ever leave Jim?" He could tell me he had feelings for Dwight and I'd stay with him. Because it's JIM.

OHMYGOSH. I've been waiting to read & review this because I knew that I would adore it. Jim/Dwight is just about my favorite thing on the planet, and you guys have been writing my favorite, favorite fics recently. A pretty killer combination in my book.

So I'm going to leave a scary number of reviews because I think this whole thing is so brilliant and because there are so many things in each chapter that make me way too happy.

In this one-it's so spot-on. I love how it mirrors what we saw in The Initiation with Ryan, but minus Ryan's smugness and with Jim's eager-to-please confusion thrown in.

And I laughed out loud when Jim responded with "absolutely, one-hundred-percent ready" just to show that he'd been paying attention. It just plonks you down right into their dynamic immediately-it already feels so familiar.

Oh Dwight! Oh Jim! Oh theme song!

Picturing Dwight headbanging and Jim taping his fingers on the dashboard kind of made my night. And I love Dwight's pride--you really captured the feeling of his conversation with Ryan...he really was looking for a teammate and a friend in his own crazy, Dwightish way.

And it being acceptable for Jim to hold his hands in his lap killed me. OH, and the fact that Jim smiles too much but they're going to "work on that." Both are so perfectly Dwight.

Love love love the dynamic in this chapter, where Jim is starting to get annoyed and Dwight is being weird and irritating, but also has this whole other layer of high expectations and disappointed hopes for his relationship with Jim.

And this is perfect:

"Mose! Barn, now. We're wrestling."

Gah, they're just teetering on the edge of creating their Season One dynamic...adversarial and mutually annoying. Loved Jim's talking Dwight off the ledge. You really captured their voices...I can even hear their inflections in my head as I read this. Really well done.

Reviewer: yippee Signed 10

And so it starts. Love how you've built up to this-it feels like such a natural progression to this point. And the end! Dwight knowing that Jim was lying but not saying anything was so randomly touching...love those little reminders that Dwight is a human being with feelings. And it's so true to Jim's character that his self-preservation instinct tends to kick in 2 years too late, and that he may be desperate and unhappy...but he can't seem to do anything to move away from it.

Reviewer: yippee Signed 10
Date: March 06, 2007 Title: Chapter 6: so it evens out

"Jim looks over at Pam, and she raises her eyebrows. He shrugs, but inwardly he thinks that maybe it was a bad idea to play a prank on Dwight right before a big sales call. He imagines Dwight in the stairwell, doing twice the headbanging he normally does, and the thought of that alone makes him a little bit guilty."

Perfect perfect perfect. I love how the introduction of Pam into this dynamic is so nebulous...it's good and bad, which is so true to the dynamic between the 3 of them on the show. And Dwight's thoughts on the Jim/Pam interactions were priceless.

Reviewer: yippee Signed 10
Date: March 06, 2007 Title: Chapter 7: because i'm also competitive

Oooh, my favorite chapter so far, I think.

God, I love when Season 1 Jim realizes how pathetic he is--and that whole bit about him coming in to the office just because Pam might be there is so, so sad and so true to character.

And I adored the Jim/Dwight interaction and Jim's tossing the competition at the end and how he actually had fun and was productive with Dwight and without Pam. Loved it. That last line just felt so nostalgic--it was such a nice ending sentiment for this chapter.

OH GOD A THEME SONG!! So fantastic, and is it weird that I'm a little teary over Dwight's theme song admission?? It was just so perfect, with Dwight looking out the window and Jim feeling awkward. So touching. And such a perfect spot to end this. Much much love to you both for writing such true, wonderful, inventive Jim/Dwight fic :)

OH GOSH. I love love love reading your version of happy Jim/Karen. This felt so lived in and real and happy, and then with the quick punch to the gut at the end...so good.

Both of these scenes are so lovely and real-I felt like I was sitting there watching both of these moments unfold in front of me.  As others have commented, the parallel was perfect and the last line so full of meaning.  I also loved the way you wrote Pam's thoughts in both sections--it was so true to her character on the show, which is so tough to do.

Oh gosh, I loved this. It was still Pam, Jim, and Ryan--but the situation was so different and crazy, but in a way that totally worked because the characterizations were spot-on.

Really loved the way this unfolded--with all the explanation coming in the middle. And that whole part, the part that's supposedly happening on the show today, was fantastic. Particularly loved the lines about neither Ryan nor Jim being good actors, and Ryan wanting to get caught. Really loved reading this :)

Gah, this was fantastic. Loved the momentum of this, moving from Pam's edginess to them kind of stumbling into passion and honesty and then clumsily falling out of it and into a comfortable space again. The transitions felt so natural.

Everything in here was so beautiful. I particularly loved the thoughts of guilt about Karen, the lingering uncertainties that disappear the moment Pam allows herself to say "I kissed you." This was such a beautiful moment.

Author's Response:

You picked up on my transitions and you thought they were natural?  Hello, new best friend.  That's possibly the best compliment you could have given me for this piece.

Thank you so much!  I'm so happy you liked the part about Karen too because I really think Pam would think about her in that moment -- she understands what she's doing, but it's inevitable, and of course Karen has some idea of what's coming, so it's just- she has to do this, this is what's right- haha, I think I'm getting into my Pam's-stream-of-consciousness mode, so I'll stop here.  Thanks again for your thoughtful comment!

Ohmygod, this is absurdly addictive and I LOVE IT. Love love love the dynamic you've created here between all these characters--such a great combination of fun, awkward, and hot that we rarely get all combined.

Your characterizations are amazing. Love your fun Karen (yay for a fun Karen/Pam dynamic and for Karen actually having sex...neither happens in fic too often!), your insanely hot flirty Ryan, your at-times-agressive-at-times-uncertain Pam, confused Jim and Michael-ish Michael.
