Bio:

Okay, first of all I'm a guy-are there any others writing here?  Yes, I am of course in love with Jenna Fischer and with the fictional character she has created.  And I would totally have a beer and watch some hoops with Jim Halpert.

I've never written romantic stuff in my life; this show just brings it out of me.  My stories here are sort of little daydreams that seem somehow therapeutic to me.  You can usually count on happy endings from my stuff; plenty of heartache on the actual show.

Other stuff:  37, divorced, two kids, I live in Northern Virginia

Really great, obviously.  The characterization is spot on and the scenes all work, but what stood out for me is the quality of the writing itself--It's so flawless; there's not a word out of place, and your prose is stylish in an understated way.  And the sixers mom blog idea is a winner for sure, and very true to what Jim is about.

Really, really great.

Author's Response: "Stylish in an understated way." Man, I'd totally take that for my tombstone, but it'll more likely end up something like "Loved cheese a little too much." Thanks for the kind words!

Wow, that was nifty.  Really well done.  I must admit I didn't see it coming...way to step up to the plate there, Jim.

Author's Response: Glad I surprised you a bit at the end, there! I have a feeling Jim won't be sorry about that leap of faith. I'm glad you enjoyed. :)

Good stuff, I'm invested in this.  Although IMO Roy would not have suffieciently good musical taste to appreciate "Thunder Road."  More of a Motely Crue fan, I bet.  Your take on Pam's reaction is interesting...I guess I would find it suprising that it would hit her so hard to provoke that sort of reaction, but maybe.  I know if I were Jim I would NOT be pleased.

Author's Response: Hmmm.  Maybe Roy's dad liked the song and Roy grew up hearing it.  I could see Roy liking the Crue more than the Cure, but he has pretty good taste in some area.  After all, he chose Pam in high school.  I know I'm walking a bit of a line with Pam's reaction to seeing Roy, and I thank you for the encouragement and the review!

Summary:

I know I do fluff, but this is fluffier probably than any fluff I've ever written. I think I've sickened myself...but it is what it is. I'm sure lots of you are familiar with the "old navy song" -- well Ingrid Michaelson sings it and it totally inspired this sugary bit of autumn spun fluff! Enjoy and make sure to brush and floss afterwards!

Hmm, intriguing.  Loving the first person.  Having fun pretending to be Mr. Halpert?  Not quite sure where you're headed with it but I'm anxious to find out.

Author's Response: Hey Brokenloon!!!! Long time no talk! YES, I am really enjoying pretending to be Mr. Halpert. It is a lot of fun!  Thanks for being willing to go along for the ride! :-)

This one is making my heart hurt a bit.  Such a tough spot for Jim.  He's in a situation where his thoughts and feelings have to take a back seat to what Pam needs, but of course those thoughts and feelings are still there, and to have to deal with Pam not letting him in and Roy's lurking presence...it's tough stuff.   You've crafted this so well that it's really got me invested.  I'll be checking frequently for updates.

Author's Response: Hey Brokenloon!!! Thanks so much for reading, so so glad you're enjoying this.  Jim is in a really tough spot. Part of what inspired Jim's thought process in this story, was the idea of him "maturing" or coming into his own on the show (not that we'll actually SEE that arc...grrr), but I was was thinking of how this sort of situation would jumpstart that process even more. Stay tuned for more! :-)

Well then.  That was just fine.  One of my favorite chapters of any story, ever.  A few things...if they make a movie of this story, make sure they get John Mahoney to play Frank.  He'd be perfect, don't ya think?  I thought the first person thing was very effective; I think more people should use it in fanfic.  Things I especially loved...Frankie showing a little decency and Pam appreciating it...Frank being irascsible with his wife to the very end...Pam's "I'm thankful for you" (exactly what Jim needed to hear then).  Thanks so much for this.

Author's Response: Brokenloon! You're so great! I ABSOLUTELY think John Mahoney would be perfect! We can imagine him in our heads, right?  I really wanted things to come full circle in that Jim really did have an effect on these people whether he realized it or not. I think that's so often the case in life...and I think even though his time with Frankie was minimal, I'm sure he had more of an impact than he could have ever imagined. Frankie emerging as somewhat of a responsible, contributing, member of the family could also allow Pam to realize that she doesn't have to be the one to take care of everything. Thanks so very, very much for such a thoughtful review!

Okay, so I have been enjoying this story a lot and have been shamefully neglecting to review it.  Also, I have a rule that any use of Springsteen lyrics merits a review.

This is very good storytelling in a way we don't always see in fanfic.  The focus is on the story, rather than generating a particular reaction in the reader.  It's not about happy fluffballs or heartwrenching angst, but about a story you want to tell.  I don't know if that makes sense.

Also, in this particular chapter, I love the aspect of Jim needing to always fix things and Pam sometimes being frustrated by that.  I think that is a very realistic dynamic.

So, great job on this.

Author's Response: What a wonderful, wonderful compliment, brokenloon, and it totally makes sense, and I'm thrilled you think so.  The dynamic you mentioned - I think it's a pretty common one that most couples can relate to.  Jim gets so idealized in a lot of fic, and this story is no exception, so it felt right to give him a bit of a typical male flaw and have Pam react in a typically female way.  She just wants to vent and he doesn't need to rescue her!  Thank you so much your kind words and I hope you stick around for the rest!

Author's Response: Worse yet, what if Dwight read the card!!!  Seriously BL, thanks to your stellar beta job this piece is much much better.  So it appears I owe you for my very first ribbon!!!  Thank you.

You're going to have to come to terms with the fact that this is truly a tremendous story.  Like everyone else, I'm dying to know the plan and how things turn out.  You've really created something special here, and I feel really lucky to get to play a little part in it.

The way you handle the final sad winding down of Pam and Roy is espcially amazing.  The conversation with Pam's wistful mentions of gifts he could have gotten her but would never think to is just so perfect.

Author's Response: Ok so how well do you know me?  I will never fully grasp this - stayed tuned, next week I'll be crying about how chapter 3 stinks. I still think it's better because of you.  Thanks for everything as always.

Author's Response: You're a joy - really.

You finished just in time for Easter!

I believe my love for this story is no secret at this point.  So much warmth, so many moments that are such fun to imagine...Jim discovering the card, Pam nearly running into him at her door just as she was beginning to despair, the whole process of them realizing their fondest hopes.  Thanks for this wonderful gift of a story.

Author's Response: Honestly no words can say how much you've helped me here.  Thanks for believing in this story!  And thanks for everything.

Summary: Past Featured StoryThis is the last of my "near miss" rewrites for season three episodes. This one is based on "The Negotiation" and also a Pam talking head from "Michael's Birthday". It's also more angsty than the others.

Wow, this is pretty damn good.  Each chapter is better than the last, you seem to be finding your stride.  I'm guessing I speak for many when I say I'll be really excited to see the next chapter.

I wish I was as good at sleeping in the car as them...I'm lucky if I can doze for an hour in the car.

Absolutely great and getting greater, thanks for this.

Author's Response: I know, they do spend a lot of time sleeping!  But on long road trips I admit to be the kind of person who ends up sleeping through the majority of the day.  And I think it's becoming increasingly clear that Jim is an excellent sleeper.  I keep thinking he ought to be in a little more torn-up and dejected state at this point, but I'm just assuming he's able to kind of forget everything and just be with her on this trip, kind of like she's doing (or at least, trying to do).  Thanks for the review, it's nice to hear that it's getting better and not worse ;)

This is one of those stoires where I get more and more invested with each chapter.  It's become one of my favorites ever.  I find myself getting frustrated with Pam, but then I remember this is S2 Pam, who hasn't learned the value of courage, so the way you write her is definitely in character.  I think this is a very difficult scenario to write in a believable way, and you've done a tremendous job with it.

Outstanding.  Always great to see some new Colette.  I particularly loved this:

Regardless of how positively the discussion began, inevitably everything she’d never done would swirl through the air between them. She’d never finished school; never driven a convertible; never learned to use a potter’s wheel. She’d never been to Paris.
