I think you've managed to capture Pam really well here. I get so frustrated when people say that they're bored with Pam or that she has no personality. I love that she's taking time to figure out who she is alone before jumping into something with Jim. All the little changes are hard, but I love that she's doing them. This line made me sigh a little:

She’s sure now all she’s ever wanted is him.

Okay, a lot. And I also like that you've left it open-ended (for now?) because, like the show, it leaves it open to our interpretation. Sorry for this long-winded review, but you've done a great job with this!

I swear, with all the recent updates I keep losing track, but I wanted to make sure I read this one! You're continuing this, right? RIGHT?? I really enjoyed this, especially Pam's transition from the nervousness of seeing Jim the first time to anger and resentment, and finally realization that she needs to let herself feel the way she does about him. Really, all I want is for them to see each other and for everything to magically be back the way it was but I know it's not going to be like that-and that makes reading (and watching!) half the fun. Sorry, rambling again, but just know that this was wonderful!!

Another amazing chapter. You definitely have a way with Jim and Pam! I really, really liked the bit with the glasses. It makes you wonder what could have been if he'd found her first :). Also, the pacing in this chapter is just spot on- the way it builds while still maintaining the playful, witty banter we've come to love. I love how I can just picture them saying everything you write for them. Just fantastic. 

And let me just say I'm very impressed that you can get this done and still have time for Nano stuff. I'm screwed! Haha.

Oh, thank goodness you're back! This was just another amazing amazing chapter. So sweet and the dialogue was just perfect-a great mix of playful and serious. I really liked how you had Pam explain her motivation (can you send this dialogue to Greg Daniels so everyone can be in the loop now?!). I've been trying to put my finger on why Pam would be so confused, and you've articulated it wonderfully. It's not Jim's fault, but I can see how going between "It's no big deal," to "yeah I'm willing to drop everything to be with you" could really mess with a girl's mind. Welcome back! :)

Not to get all discussion-y in my reply but I'm baffled by what seems to me to be alot of Pam blame for what's happened here.  It seems the majority of fans believe it'd be unrealistic for Pam to have simply jumped into Jim's arms post-CN - yet there's a ton of criticism about what she's done thus far in S3.  Trust me.  I want her to open her mouth and just SAY or DO SOMETHING that makes us know for sure she's dying inside.  So I'm doing that here.

I think she's nuts to not have jumped him various times in S2 but it's becoming increasingly obvious every week that I don't write for the show.

Damnit. ;)

Hooray for this milestone, and hooray for this fic! I'm just amazed at how in so few words you can capture the essence of this distance between them. And I swear if it takes Pam 500 days to get the lead out we'll all really be in trouble! Great job Lis!

Oh, I still don't trust that Pop Rocks and Coke :) I really like this already. Aw, kind of makes you miss the good old days of Jim and Pam.

Author's Response: Neither do I - I sure haven't tried it.  I don't think I'd die, but doesn't it seem like it would hurt going down??? I'm glad you like this so far - I did miss the good old days of Jim and Pam, so I figured I'd try to create a scenario wherein I could juxtapose them back then with the way they (might) be when they're re-united.  Thanks, as always, for the review!

colette, this was a pretty freakin amazing piece. I really want to quote the whole thing back to you, because I loved it all, but the one key piece that stood out to me was this: 

Jim. She soars. But then. Out of nowhere, there’s someone else. A stick of gum. A familiar hand touching his back, knowing him. And, just like that, he’s lost to her. She crashes to the ground under the weight of all the months when she could have said something.

 Ouch. You've described this perfectly. I felt like Pam in that moment. I can't say that I'm totally hating the Karen storyline right now, because I'm not, but I just feel so frustrated that these two aren't saying something to one another. Damn the writers for making this show so real but bless you for writing this to ease the pain a bit. The last line was lovely and you certainly know how to paint a lovely canvas with your words. Okay, sorry for this completely incoherent review, but just know that you are amazing!

I love how you succinctly capture the loneliness in Toby's life. The pot pie? Uh, pretty much kills me. Damn these people and their supposedly being in a comedy and yet they completely break my heart! Great job Par5, keep 'em comin! :)
