Plan A by Willow Rated: K [Reviews - 9] 6
Summary: This story was inspired by Pam's, "I kind of thought something would happen tonight too." It made me think Pam had plans besides Diwali and only went because they fell through. This is my version of what her "Plan A" had been.

This captures Pam's tentativeness about reaching out to Jim, in spite of her fears about doing it. Perfect for her to come up with a silly excuse to see him and when he says 'no', I could really sense her disappointment. Very poignant.

Oh and - She shaved her legs Friday morning anyway -- just in case - what girl hasn't been there?

Author's Response: Thank you :)

Your description of that moment in the elevator is incredibly evocative - there's such a vivid sense of Jim's yearning there. She’ll say goodbye, chance another glance up at him, let her face show her emotions candidly for a split second, and he knows. Perfect non-ending.

Summary: This is just a sappy little one shot that I wrote for all the angsty Jim/Pam people who need a happy ending and fast. (TWSS!)

This was so well done - it had a great flow to it, was really well written and captures the characters subtly and clearly. I especially liked your portrait of Karen - how she's emotionally attached to Jim, but has the dignity to walk away. And how Jim sort of lets her be a life raft, while he can. And then he can't. And wonderful ending. The real Pam. He's seen her all along, hasn't he?

Author's Response:

Thank you!

I'm so glad you liked Karen's chapter. It was the one I actually wrote first, with the intention of it being a stand-alone piece. However, it didn't quite feel finished and the other chapters just sort of materialized around it, but that one remains my favourite, too.

He's seen her all along, hasn't he?

Yeah, he sure has. That's where I got the idea that Jim could be happy without Pam, as long as she was happy.

Thanks again for the review!

Why, you devil. The discussion over at TWoP today was like JAM triage...and this is the ER and you're the miracle doc, dispensing the cure. Or something. In any case, thanks for this wonderful fairy tale. 'it's Halpert.' Sigh. Helps me brace myself for tonight (have talked myself into expecting the worst.)

What a wonderful painkiller - and not even narcotic! SO sweet. Babies. Oreos. Kisses. Office-world set back on its proper orbit.

Nothing in this room seems at all disposable to her. Somehow, that line just seemed to sum up much of what Pam should be feeling about Jim...and in your story she already does.

Thanks for this lovely reprieve from angst. It's nuts, I tell you - supposed to be a comedy!

Author's Response:

That's me.  You're friendly neighborhood fluff pusher. ;)

I know!!!  I was too busy trying to put my heart back in my chest to be able laugh on first viewing.  :(  It was not so much a roller coaster as one of those Free Fall rides.  You're sitting on top of the world and then the bottom falls out and your heart drops to your stomach.

Sigh.

Author's Response: edited to say...That's YOUR friendly neighborhood fluff pusher.  Perhaps I should keep myself from sampling my own stash and maybe I can pick the correct homophone.

Okay. He's attracted to Karen, likes her, in another circumstance maybe, but...in the end, it's still about Pam. Damn right.

Thanks for doing this - the way you frame it here gives me hope...now, if only the show writers didn't seem hell bent on prolonging the torture. Is it good comic TV when it becomes almost too painful to watch? Not so sure. Thank god there are stories like this to soothe the boo-boos! And lovely writing too - as usual!

First: standing side by side, silently, just being? Be still, my jammy heart.

I can always count on you to make it all right with these two...and to tell me just what they're thinking. Because, cracking the code of what it all means on the show is damn exhausting!

And hooray for Pam being the instigator. I hope G. Daniels takes a cue from you and makes that misguided girl rise above all the miscommunication and confusion and SAY SOMETHING. Direct. To Jim. Thanks for making that so...once.

Jim and Pam together, Kelly's commentary, great dialogue...just what I needed! This was really fun and a great break from the 'reality' of the show.

Ahh. Big sigh. Love how you have Jim articulate all that he's gone through. And be a little irritated, but clear...and he still loves her! Hooray for that. (And the bit about him remembering she likes the lotion tissues was somehow just so sweet and so Jim.) Happy now.

Jim as Jill's accomplice in crime - he would so be co-conspirator dad and she'd have him pegged before she could tie her shoes. This: She's a genius who lives by a code: Be polite...Don't be a fool made me laugh out loud, as did several other lines (she's using her words at least - ha!)

Such a treat - but, then again, you probably have me pegged and already knew that ;-)

PS I know lots of adults who still have boundary issues with other peoples woah-woahs, so I think Jill will be just fine.

A bit on the fly here, cause I have about 9 bazillion things to do before delivering the baby tonight (woops...that's Pam not me!) but had to commemorate this moment. You finished! And in TOP FORM, babe.  You are still the queen of dialogue and those perfect little touches (looking for an iron, like the hospital is a hotel - hee!) Not to mention writing a small child who's adorable without making your teeth hurt.

It's was an honor to be even a very tiny part of this...and what the hell, for old time's sake: I believe it's Pitocin, not Pitosin ;-) Well done, missy!

This was one of my favorite chapters - and that's saying a lot. It's uncanny how you captured each character - and that last bit was perfect. So funny and spot on, and in so few words.

Early in this series, I remember thinking: we'll never see scenes of them married, preg, with a baby, etc....so thank god for Lovefool! Little do those writers on the show know what a tough act they have to follow ;-)

Author's Response: Aw, Miss C I'm so happy you thought so highly of this chapter!  It was definitely some of the most fun I've had writing. I can NOT wait to see what happens this season!

Reviewer: Colette Signed

See this is why you rule the genre: writing a tyke that cute without making her the second coming of Shirley Temple (even credible - yet so adorable you could bite her - dialogue!) You pick just the right details - e.g., sticking out her tummy - to make her real, without overdoing it. Tasty as ever!

Author's Response: Why thank you Colette. Very kind of you to say indeed. ;-)  In my head Jill is quite adorable - but not perfect for sure. Seems she's picking up sort of a whiny thing. lol. Thanks for taking the time to review, as always.

You already know (more than you ever probably wanted to know ;-) how I feel about this. (Love what you did with the ending, btw.) All too often fics depict Jim the Obscure and Pam Karenina, so I love how you balanced real-life angst (the kind a character like Pam would experience, not the hyper-self-consciously 'edgy' sort) with the humor and love and hopefulness that are essential elements of the show. Well done!

Reviewer: Colette Signed
Date: April 11, 2009 Title: Chapter 21: Moving Day

I seriously think you could market this fic as a mood enhancing drug. The Jilly/Jim dynamic is so delicious and believable - and his love for Pam oozes from how enthralled he is with their little girl. That Fun Run moment at the end was perfect - your words made me picture it exactly, as I read. This is pure love.

Author's Response: Thanks Miss Colette.  You know, sometimes I have to remind myself to actually include Pam in the story because I just love writing Jim with his daughter...just the idea of that is so freaking adorable to me I can't stand it.  I'm glad those scenes are as delicious for you as they are for me!

This made me a little ferklempt - seeing yourself in your kids is a scary and awesome thing, and you really captured that here, as well as how mind blowing it is when you begin seeing all the ways they're not you. And I LOVED Jim's journal entry - perfect. This was a delish little amuse bouche for tonight's episode...not that they're about to reproduce, but at least we know it's somewhere on the horizon now. For realsies ;-)

Don't know if I've ever told you this, but - in general (with some exceptions), not a big lover of baby fic. Which makes that fact that I LOVE this story all the more notable. And this chapter was the bomb - so appropriate that it's almost all told via a joint talking head. And so many delicious details - a lot of bling for a baby; Michael's karaoke baby songs; Toby's creepiness; Kelly's turning Jill into a pint size Princess Grace...how do you keep coming up with this stuff? Whatever it is, don't stop ;-)

Oh, no...can we expect Sofia Coppola to appear in Part III? The bit of tension in the middle of this part only makes it more delectable - love how simply Jim makes it all better at the end (him thinking how beautiful she is in the morning? Awww.) And soothing teething Jill? And teaching her to type? Makes me want to leap ahead a couple of seasons so they can reproduce, stat! Also - the Dwight warm blanket thing was surprisingly touching (like the show) and you nailed the Michael-ness of Michael. So satisfying....

Once more, your story never crosses that line between sweet/hearfelt and googly schmoop. (And it's a hard one to tow, I know.) Is it the wit? The perfect character voices? The touch o'sexy? Whatever it is you're doing, it works.

yep, it's the same hand alright...this one tastes like chicken.

LOL. And all Jim's kissing Jill's little face and fingers and Pam appreciating and loving him so much? Utterly delicious. You've just created another puddle of Colette. Hope your happy now ;-)

You know I LOVE this series...but this chapter? Borders on brilliant (and that is not a term I throw around lightly.) It captures the essence of what was so great about S2, and seamlessly integrates the whole, fantastically detailed marriage/baby world you've created. Jim, Pam, Dwight - they all come through as if I were actually watching an episode. A great one. This made me more excited for S4 (when hopefully, we'll get more of the Jim/Pam pranking stuff, if sans Jill) more than any NBC promo ever could. Don't ever end this series. Seriously.

Author's Response: Aw, Colette you are the best. Thank you so much for such for saying this. You know, I just have to believe that the writers will come through for us, in giving up the notion that Jim and Pam can't be funny as a couple. Every time I sit down to write a chapter of this story, I'm out to prove otherwise....even though the people who think it can't happen aren't reading it. lol. Anyway, thanks for the thoughtful review. Believe me, it's readers like you who make me never want to end this thing....we'll see how long it lasts before it becomes the crap fluff it should have been. lol

Just when I thought Daddy Jim couldn't get any more adorable, you go and write this update. So funny when he does the baby voice, when he says 'is it the baby weight?'...and it somehow does seem right that Jim would be better at baby stuff than Pam at first. Still cute without being sappy, and the characters still sound just as I'd imagine  them. Really charming and fun.
