Okay, I honestly think that was one of the best - no, I KNOW it was one of the best - Jim/Pam finally get together scenarios I've ever read.  You got their voices just right, and it's really so, so realistic - seriously.  And I love the way you keep up with the time.  This was just lovely, absolutely lovely.

Author's Response:

Whoa, I never noticed this 'respond' button before. I am not so smart sometimes.

Thanks a lot for the kind (and swift) feedback. :) I'm really glad  you enjoyed it. I'm relatively new to the fandom and it was a lot of fun to write.

This is absolutely gorgeous - just stunning, stunning prose, as always.  I kept thinking, I'm going to mention this line in my review as one of my favorites....then several lines down, I'd find another.

You capture what Pam must be thinking so beautifully here, seriously -- This? "Maybe being strong isn’t about being alone." -- just beautiful.

And this? "She looks beautiful and focused and content. She looks like the rest of his life." almost made me cry.

Seriously, you are so incredibly, incredibly talented - I just love all your stuff! Keep it coming....

Author's Response:

Talk about writing great reviews...oh my. Am truly touched by your comments. I had trouble parting with this one, and ironically it may be the one I've felt most deeply about, so it's especially great to know it came across - especially to the writers I most admire.

Have a head full of snippets for other stories, but nothing gelled yet...I hope some of your remarkable ability to be prolific (and still maintain high quality) will rub off on me! Or maybe just imagining rubbing up against Jim would do the trick...hmmmm. Seriously, thanks so much.

Oh, this was perfect! First, I could completely picture Pam staying late to avoid going back to an empty apartment (been there!).   Second, Creed seemed spot on to me - as did the idea of Dwight's name being all over his lunch, Creed sniffing it, shrugging, then eating it.  And I loved the "Who's Jim?"  So Creed.... Great job!

Author's Response: Thanks girl7! You know, Creed loves stealing things. Hee!

This should really come with a warning, because it is so...heartbreaking and real. Your description of Toby's apartment and his state of mind just makes me want to put my arms around him even more than I already do (in a purely comforting way).  And I could completely see this conversation happening between him and Pam; in fact, if anybody could make Pam see the light, I could envision it being Toby.  Love this - and the last line was just killer as well.

Outstanding!

So, um, could Daryl give some advice? I love Daryl. :o)

Author's Response:

Thanks so much girl7. Toby gets little screen time but he's just so melancholy. He has to have a lot of hurt bottled up inside to make him all the things that he chooses to be... I think Pam and Toby are going through similar pain right now and I wanted to explore that. I'm glad you liked it! And I will absolutely put Darryl on the list. I love him too!

Okay, I don't know how/why I didn't review this when I read it before, but this chapter (the whole story, for that matter) is absolutely awesome.

You know, one of the....brilliant things in all of your stories is your ability to add in tiny details that just make it all come alive.  Like Jim picking Janie up and hanging her upside down with her pigtails above the floor - I could totally see him doing that.  So little moments of verissimilitude like those just make it all come together that much more.  That and the fact that your dialogue is always spot on.

And you never, never leave us lacking in the happy Jim/Pam department - which is one of my other favorite things about you.  :o)

Author's Response:

You are just incredibly sweet.  And OK - verissimilitude?  Can I just tell you how much that tickles me to see a word like that in reference to one of my silly fanfics?

Awesome.

And never fear.  It is not within my makeup to write anything BUT a happy (or hopeful) ending for Jim/Pam.  Just can't do it.  I've tried and I cave - EVERY TIME.  ;)

Great job!  I loved the beginning bit of Pam's inner monologue - I think you hit the nail on the head re: her life, why she stays with Roy, how she sort of fell into complacency.  And you write her banter with Jim so well.

Great job!

Author's Response:

Thanks! I wonder if anyone's reading sometimes. I love your stories and honestly any compliment from you is an inspiration!

I am trying to be careful with Pam and Roy, because I don't want Jim to kjust come ans sweep her away, you got to have a crack in the foundation and something makes the crack grow.... ya know? =-)

Hope it's okay that I'm leaving another review - just wanted to tell you not to be discouraged at the lack of reviews.  For one thing, LOTS of people read and don't review (myself included sometimes when I'm in a hurry), so the reviews/lack thereof aren't a reflection on your story (though it's hard not to take it that way, I know).  Second, though, I noticed when I first started posting that my stories didn't generate much of a reaction until I'd been posting for a while.  I don't think anyone here is snobby at all, just that there are so many incredibly talented established writers here (nomadshan, xoxoxo, Collette, to name only a few) that lots of readers go straight for their stuff (or stuff from someone they recognize) first.

All this to say: Don't get discouraged; keep writing and posting!

Author's Response: Thanks so much for the encouragement! =-D

Okay, so where to begin?  First, you know that I myself am incapable of writing a Jim/Pam fic without a "happy" (read: Jim/Pam together) ending (with the exception of the dirty little Jim/Jan one, but let's not go there, 'kay?).

But I really, really love this.  I totally understand why some people had a sort of "Whoa!" reaction to it, but that's a good thing, IMHO; it means you've written a damned good, believable story.  (I had quite the visceral reaction to his proposal - stopped chewing my Pria bar and sat there all still for a second, just blinking.)

But this does work, and while it's not what any of us want to see on the show, I don't think we could deny that if Pam didn't get it together (which she's already starting to do), then yeah, he'd be more than ready to move on with a woman who does have it together.

In fact, this story made me realize for the first time that I was a total Jim in my last relationship before I married my husband - had been best friends first and everything.  He did nothing but waffle on me, and I pined for forever - then met my husband, who from day one said, "You're what I want." And that was it - no looking back, no regrets, no longing.

All this to say - bravo to you.

And the writing?  Loved your lines, the subtle details (loved the comments about salesmen with big egos and....hee), the image of him running into Pam later with his baby (ouch!).

That you cranked this sucker out in half an hour is the most amazing thing of all, I think.  :o)

Author's Response:

Okay, let's not gloss over your side trip into AU with the horrifyingly intriguing Jim/Jan tryst! I'm pretty sure I couldn't have gone there! But you know I'm in your camp. I tried writing one fic a while ago with angry Jim intending to never get them together and of course they ended up together. And in bed. (I think I learned that from you!)

But Pixel threw it out there and I was immediately repulsed but I wrote the first sentence just to see if I could and it was all downhill from there. Being a little fed up with Pam, anxious for the Jamfest to begin, and wanting a little bit of happiness for Jim made it easier, I think. But it was late and my husband (who was more of a Pam to my Jim!) was out of town so I may just have been delirious.

Thank you for your copious feedback! I wish you'd been my English teacher as I suspect the comments on my papers would have been more constructive than "nice job". ;)

And my apologies to salesmen but I call 'em like I see 'em!

First of all, I remember a previous story of yours - reading it and just being so blown away by the sheer poetry of it that I was actually despondent for a second - as in, Jesus, why do I even try to write?  This is amazing....  That is seriously the memory that sticks with me (and it's a compliment, by the way, not a whine!)  So when I saw that you'd posted this, I had to immediately find it and read it, and you do not disappoint here.  Wow.  So perfect - it's amazing that you've filled in the gaping blanks in this character that we've just met in such a way that seems completely plausible and realistic.  And the reasons why Jim's attracted to her are also just amazing and heartbreaking.  I loved the line, "She likes her."  Incredible.  And I also loved the effect of the stand alone sentences between paragraphs - just ars poetica at work, I'm telling you.

So thank you for a terrific, inspiring read!

Author's Response:

I don't really know what to say. Really. Thank you SO much for taking the time to read my fics and...paint such a beautiful picture. As you'll find, I'm quite clumsy when it comes to responding to comments - in your case, the best praise one could wish for - but I do want to say that your work is very inspired (always thought your Beyond the Cameras piece was great).

I think it's interesting that you point out that particular line, because I've always thought it could be open to so many different interpretations. It could be entirely true, or wishful thinking on his part, or Karen saying it to him in a less-than-convincing way. "She likes her." Hm.
