Also, Michael? You've got his character down, in the unTWSS way. I can't wait to see Traveling Salesmen - and if you manage to get the brand new scenes in, I may possible love you forever.

Not that I don't love you already, considering this is an awesome, lovely, brilliant, amazing story, but still.

Author's Response:

Actually, the brand new scenes are partially what helped me get over my extreme writer's block with regards to this story...so I hope that you'll be pleased with the next update. ;)

EE. There are three more chapters in this update but I can't escape how much I love his reaction and her reaction and Karen's reaction, a bit, but mostly just his reaction and her reaction. In fact I love them so much I can't stop saying the word reaction - it doesn't even make sense, but still.

You've got their HeartbrokenbutHopeful situation down. The way you describe how he reacts to Pam's news, to the way Pam actually tells him the news in the first place [I loved the short sentences that still somehow tell us everything] - and I adored how he nearly leans away from Karen at reception, and how she sees intimate is Karen's look, and - it's so sad. I particularly loved her wanting to get up and tell him, make him ask, but settling for that e-mail. So good. HeartbrokenHope. Damn.

you're a genius. I'm not going to bother reviewing the rest of these chapters because I'm going to end up saying the same thing all over again.

Author's Response: Oh your reviews always make me so happy!  I love when someone really gets what I'm trying to get across. :)  Oh, and you can say reaction as many times as you want. :)

I was seriously planning on not reviewing butbutbut the thanks and the i missed this and the me too and how he licks his lips and he doesn't taste anything and the way even after she hangs up the ringtone sounds hopeful - it's perfect, the perfect build-up to how Jim and Pam because JimandPam again in the next episode - and the prospect of The Return being something that's leading up to the end is making even more giddy, if that's possible, because does that mean the February sweeps [aka JAMTorture] won't be included in this 'verse? I would love you forever if that were true.

Actually either way I'd probably love you forever, so. I'm just going to wait here for an update. Right here.

Author's Response:

This review makes me want to sit down and write the next part right away.  Actually, I have a lot of lines/ideas already for the next part, because TR makes me giddy.  And, yes, this will end sometime after The Return...poof!  Feb. Sweeps never even happened in this story. :)

Either way, this story will be finished by the end of the hiatus.  :)

I'm pretty sure I've reviewed for this before, but I can't get over how happy this last chapter makes me, always, without fail; I have to make sure that you know I love you and this story, Paper Jam - absolutely lovely.

Author's Response: Oh, moofoot! (BTW, my nickname in real life is Missy Moo (loooong story). Are we long lost cousins?) No, this is your first time reviewing this, but I appreciate it anyway! You are so sweet to love me. I love you, too! You always leave such kind reviews! I'm glad the last chapter makes you happy. I had to do something nice for the readers (and myself) who suffered one through four. Kisses!

You are seriously brilliant/lovely/awesome/amazing. I mean, blue dress aside [because I'm sure you've gotten a lot of love for that one already, hmm?] but God. I can't even pick a favourite from these.

Besides the fifth one. =P

I'm going to read all your fics again because I have nothing better to do with my time and your fics are amaazzinngg!!! WOO!

Author's Response: Ahaha! moofoot, are you drunk? (No, I'm not drunk, are you drunk?) You are the sweetest (possibly drunkest) person ever. I seriously can't believe someone would be that nice to me if they weren't inebriated. Bless your heart and thank you! You totally made my night!

I just saw this because the first time I saw it I hadn't watched the episode yet and afterwards I guess I just forgot - I was doing random things, though, and I found this, and well - wow. I love that they could be so close even though they're in love with the same person, without getting slashy, and - I really like both of them, as much as I don't like going around admitting I love Karen, and to put them both on the same side even with them knowing about each other, it's just - wow, because I never thought of the situation playing out this way, and it just fits, perfect.

I babble when I find something absolutely amazing, so - I'm sorry. I realise that first part of my review was just a sentence. oO Good Lord.

I'm going to read this again because I adore this to bits.

I think I've said this before, already, but it's odd that being in love with the same person brings them closer together defines Pam and Karen in a way that most people don't really get across, but you know this is a brilliant fic, so, uh, that's it for that, but

I finally got my hands on Wincing the Night Away [because I'm law-abiding - actually, no, not really, I just didn't get it sooner.] and I fell in love with Australia, easily my favourite track, and I love that that's where you got the title from.

Yeah I'm done.

Ohhhhhh. *breathes* How absofreakinglutely gorgeous. I know writing drabbles is sometimes beyond hard because there is so much that you can say and it always, always, always seems like there's a billion things that you have to cut out, in the end. But this all comes together in this flowy, almost poetic manner, and it's just - lovely.
It’s not coincidence that all of her sketches now consist of straight lines.
has got to be one of the most brilliant almost-introductory lines I have ever read in fanfiction.

Especially the way you bring out the parallels, the straight lines; from when they kissed, first of all, that meeting point, and then the date, and breaking silence, and the gift: I find it strange how it seems like all of this is on a *line*, and all the sides of *Jim*'s story moves backwards from the meeting point [the kiss] and all of Pam's move forwards, from the meeting point. As they diverge it seems they become more of the same. Wow. I know I'm not getting the message across the way I want it to but I figured it was worth trying. ;)

And I adored the way you brought out the similarities in their ways and the events that've happened without adding anything on except a style of writing that makes all the parallels completely tangible; instead of adding on something that the writers never gave us. I loved that.

I'm sorry, is it too obvious that I'm going to take literature as a major? I'm sure this review is probably almost as long as your story. oO

Steadily growing into one of my favourite authors, you are. :D Awesome talent.

Author's Response:

Ok, before I thank you for writing me the most awesome review ever, I just wanted to tell you that "Two" was one of the most beautiful, brilliant things I've ever read.  I loved the way it was pieced together and every part is so different but yet it's like a perfect timeline, a progression of things, and it just amazingly flows.  I know this sounds stupid but it reminded me of a patchwork quilt.

Anyway, back to you really making my day...I wasn't sure how this one came out because I tend to be way too descriptive and use lots and lots of words.  My goal for myself was to be as succinct as possible yet still get the feeling across.  I'm just really glad you liked this and thanks for taking the time to review it.

Reviewer: moofoot Signed

Ah. I'm starting to see that their relationship is more of a circle than a line, especially sniffing nearly twice as much as I did after watching Back from Vacation than after Boys and Girls. I think it's very intentional; our writers are genius for a reason. Anyway hopefully that means that when they go full circle they get back to that kiss, except move forwards from there before falling back into routine.

I adored this line:
But maybe she wants to be bigger than that. Better than that. Not only for him, but for herself, too.
Because how true is that? I'm almost completely convinced that if Jim and Pam ever become JimandPam, it's Pam that has to do make the first step, and this sentence shows that she probably thinks so, too. Love that.
And the way you described how she's standing and fidgeting and the way she's wrapped her arm around her stomach so tightly [the actors are just beyond amazing, goodness] and the way you described what their argument is - not an argument. Bah.

And I seriously adore the slight repetition in detail; how he notices she's been crying and how she hopes he doesn't notice she's been crying - it's in two different situations, but something about those lines remind me that so much of the first years of their friendship [before Casino Night, that is] is about pretending and acting and hiding. Thanks, because I feel sniffy at the end of this, too. :P

First of all, because you managed to put Johnny Cash in here, I give you about twenty thousand points. ;)

And about triple that for writing one of the most incredibly guy-friendship stories ever. Honestly, everything from the beginning to the end just makes it all so unbelievably realistic, from the way they start on a similar interest in cars, to the Man in Black, to the way Dwight shows how brilliant he is at cars [honestly this may seem slightly un-girlish but I would kill for a car like that. on the girlier side, if Dwight/Rainn drove it for me the geek in me would be extremely ecstatic.] - and I loved the divergence to Roy's Uncle Frank, for some reason, making this entire thing seem a little dreamier.

I loved the butt-slap, by the way. I can't really imagine Roy communicating in more verbal ways. =P

Awesome job, as always. ;) Now I'm going to go consider reading that Jim/Josh fic you have up.

Author's Response:

Wow, thanks, moofoot! It's always rewarding to hear that the elements I ike are effective for readers as well. I like to think that Dwight has a few major talents that go unnoticed in light of his annoying behavior.

And yeah, Johnny Cash.

Glad you liked it! The Jim/Josh is much less about friendly bonding than this one  :)

Summary:

Eventually someone will catch on that she goes with him on all of his big sales calls.  Slightly AU, slightly wishful thinking.

Are you kidding me? With all honesty, I like that side of him a lot, thank you. Assistant Regional Manager Jim is on my Christmas list at the end of the year. [yes, I think very far ahead.]

I love how you've written Pam, here; in fanfiction we've seen quite a bit of Jim!lusting, but Pam!lusting is either over-the-top or not enough at all, and this hits the spot right in the middle. That, my friend, is talent. And I love Jim. =P So very in-character; I would expect him to be like that, the car ride, the conversations, the sales calls. And I also adore how even though there're differences in the way they act around or with or because [?] of each other, essentially and basically they're Jim and Pam through and through, from the McNugget to their elevator rides and [I loved this detail:] them running out of places to pull over after the sales calls.

And lately I've taken to thinking of how Jim and Pam would be, in secret!relationships around the office, and I would love them to be like this. If the cameras were around the office, we would definitely notice them both gone. ;)

Yeah, that's it. I'm going to read this again and fall in love with Jim a little bit more, now. Woohoo!

Author's Response:

Yes, I have officially wanted Asst. Regional Manager Jim since his Validity Committee Meeting during Benihana Christmas.

I was actually worried that a lot of people wouldn't even be able to tell that this is Pam, since this falls sort of under AU (which I normally don't like to do).  So I'm so, so happy that you said that she wasn't over the top.  And that you thought Jim was in-character.  For some reason I have such an easier time writing him than I do Pam.

If the cameras were around, there's no way we wouldn't notice them missing...and I'm sure the people in the office notice it too, but somehow I think they wouldn't really care and they've always sort of guessed there was a JAM thing.

But I still think that Jim and Pam would try to keep it under cover!

Thanks for the review, moofoot!

Oh, oh, seriously, I love all your stories to tiny little bits and this one's no exception. Freaking adorable, and it makes me feel a little woozy inside: Jim and Pam are wading through lot of crap and pain and unnecessary pieces of broken hearts here and it's breaking my heart, too; but the pay-off will be good. Very good. This story just supports that.

Only nitpick, though, is the changing tenses throught the thing? When she starts talking it flips into present tense, but throughout the rest of the story it's past. I'm sorry, no one else probably even noticed. I'm just being a dork. =$

Oh, and I didn't say this before: Bastard. Oh, Pam, go!

Author's Response:

Nope - you're absolutely right.  Usually I write in present tense and this time (no clue why) I went with past.  I absolutely appreciate your bringing it up.  I can't fix what I don't realize is broken.  Nothing dorky about it.  THANK YOU!

OH. I am so, so, so freaking satisfied. Pam did not make all the mistakes in this relationship and she did not misunderstand everything and I am beyond tired of people saying Pam gets all that she deserves. Both of them made mistakes. I am so glad to see her saying that it was hard for her to change and he should've known that.

I adore and love Jim to bits but apparantly some people who think the same of him decide to be stinking biased all the time!

Thank you, thank you, so, so, so much for this. After Back from Vacation this was exactly the sort of full tonic I needed.

Sorry for the rant but I was in desperate need to let some of the anger out. =P A quick update would keep me shut up a little longr though, I promise. ;)

I am a sad person who keeps refreshing MTT's most recent page.

OK. Seriously? I love this to bits. I've seen so much speculation on Roy and Jim and Pam and Karen but it didn't ever seem definite or anything, before I read this: like Pam's helping him being Jim's greatest fear and most fervent wish [oh, JIM.], like Pam seeing things so completely differently [PAM.], like Pam's laugh making Roy feel whole again [roy.], like Karen seeing the metaphors that obviously we thought only the viewers could see. =P I loved that.

But what I loved the most about this was Jan's and Michael's small set. Their scene single-handedly made me smile so much my teeth hurt, which is a feat considering I was still a little bummed about Pam's crying, and God, their relationship is screwy and dysfunctional and there are a thousand reasons they can't work,  which is exactly what makes them so freaking perfect. Michael's drabble was especially brilliant, because the solemn side of him is not often explored in fics, even though mostly everyone agrees he does have that solemn side.
And he keeps trying to get her to see how perfect she is and how he's better with her, and finally, finally she does (even though her doctor ordered her to).
That pretty much sums up that relationship. Goodness. I love these two.
And I loved the last line of Jan's, because HA. So completely in character.

I still don't think this is a comprehensive enough review so if I see anything else later that I simply loved, you can expect another review. ;)

I seriously love your work.

Oh, goodness, this is so bloody freaky. I love how it's been written, how subtly painful it is [the last line as well as I'm with Jim just ripped me apart], how if you read it well enough it can tear you into tiny little bits, but you can still see it possibly happening. And it's freaking scaring me.

Awesomely written, amazing and beautiful and eloquent, so well that I think I'm going to cry. I don't cry a lot. Really.

Oh, Stanley. He is friggin' brilliant, how did you come up with that? [did you learn that on the streets?] I loved this, from the way he plans to choose Ryan just to teach him some humility [HA!] and the way he feels, second only to the way he feels on pretzel day.
And I freaking adored this paragraph:
Maybe today is the day God answers all of Stanley's prayers. He is definitely going to buy a lottery ticket on the way home. He saw on the news last night that the jackpot is up to 65 million. He'll be able to do crosswords for hours, without interruption. At the beach.
Simple pleasures. That's StanleytheManley, alright.

See, here's a problem I had with Two: on re-read, it doesn't seem entirely possible that Karen can be friends with either of them; wouldn't it hurt? She moved here from Stamford, for a guy whose background story she seems to know zilch about, and only to find out she doesn't really stand a chance. >< My only consolation is that I wrote it before A Benihana Christmas, so...uhm.
Then last week I saw a comment on LJ about possible Karen/Toby, because both of them deserve to be happy, and I was sold. I personally think they need it.

And you mixed both the K/T and the gradual-loss-of-the-probable-awkwardness [if she stayed] in one, lovely, super, awesome story.

First of all, all the JAM [since obviously I'm a fruity-bread-spread-fan at heart]: I adore thinking that it's them who get Dwight back, working on that together [it's like the opposite of Halloween: full circle! or something.] and I loved seeing that bit on Valentines' Day.

I love Karen's POV, especially the way she notices Toby's green tie, because that tie of his is my absolutely favourite - oh, Toby. Also, my sister first called him a shaved-mopey-dog-face the first time she saw him, and though I hardly agree with her eight-year-old perception of him now, I didn't find him all that attractive at the beginning, either; I love that it starts off that way for her, and then moves forward. It's just like Karen, I think, to automatically diss a guy she may end up liking: like Toby, here, and Jim, in Gay Witch Hunt. [sorry, lit tendencies.]

And noticing the way his voice squeaks, and the contradicting way he feels fit and solid and bulky [although that makes sense since it was said before that he runs] - I loved that detail.

Actually I loved a lot of things, especially the way you made things progress. All kinds,  all kinds, of freaking awesome. I'm entirely serious.

I'm going to go read this again. KATIE! =P

Author's Response:

I don't know.  I think it may be possible for them to be friends eventually, as long as the rest of the story comes out to Karen in a more truthful, straighforward way than Jim's initial confession.  Mmmmmyeah, okay, who are we kidding?

Seriously though, the idea of Karen/Toby has appealed to me for a while.  Not that she needs to date someone at DM, but for fanfic purposes I'd rather see her with Toby than Roy.  Mostly because Toby just needs to get some already.  I'm with you on not thinking Toby was so wonderful in the beginning, but he really does grow on you and thank you for noticing the green tie thing too.  I think he wore it in BfV and I was like, guhhhhhhh.

Thanks for the review, moofoot!

Author's Response:

Also, shaved-mopey-dog-face?  My sister said about the same thing when she first saw him and she's 23.

I didn't find Toby attractive until his infamous Dundies smile.

Oh, my goodness. I just started reading this fifteen minutes ago and I - just - wow. This is all sorts, all kinds, every kind of freaking brilliant. Oh, Pam. Oh, Dwight. Oh, Angela. And DIE, ANDY.

Also, Jim? I'm going antsy just thinking of the way he'll probably react after Pam tells him it was a prank. If there's no happy JAM-ending at the end of this, even if there's a [guaranteed] Dwangela ending, I'll probably cry. How's that sound? =P

Freaking brilliant. My jaw literally dropped lower and lower many times throughout this chapter, in particular. =P

Can't wait for an update!!

So I just read this again after getting my hands on a copy of Friday Night Lights and I listened to the song as I read this and the effect it has is amazing. It, alone, is already freaking gorgeous, but all of that put together - the JAM, the dance, the beat, the rhythm, the tune, the garage, the practicing, the everything - so awesome. I love Explosions in the Sky, too, so extra points for that one there for linking one of my favourites to one of my favourites.

I think I love this story to freaking bits. It's just so, so - realistic. Real. Someone in love with Kelly [I loved this one - I liked Ryan, but becoming an unTemp has changed him and I just would love Kelly with David now - Delly or Kelvid? hmm.]. Someone who breaks Meredith's drinking habit [which I loved, too, because it's sweet that she's found her happy-ever-after who makes her realise why not to drink]. Someone who worships Creed, which made me laugh so hard. Someone who helped Toby [oh, poor poor Toby - I love him and his mopey-dog face [as described by my sister] - thank goodness Tommy was there!].

And Megan, the everyday JAM shipper, except she could do something about it. Let's ship a Megan over there ASAP, because goodness, they really do need a bit of a kick in the butt.

I don't yet have the words to say how much, how much, I love this story, but I'll get there eventually, I promise you. And then I'll probably rant to no end. =P Brilliant job!

Author's Response: Wow, thank you so much. I loved writing this- looking at our favorites from a different point of view was a fun challenge. The fact that it reached you so much is amazing. Thank you, again!

Summary:

This is along the same lines as my other Away From the Cameras, in the sense that I'm exploring scenes that might have happened off-camera (or simply those that we didn't get to see).

A few things: First, I'm working on the assumption that a lot of what I wrote in the AFtC for season II stands (though I likely won't reference any of it here), up until Casino Night.  (Clearly I was quite off about what happened after the kiss...heh.)

Second, there will be flashbacks filling in the blanks of what happened immediately after CN (how long did Jim work? how did he and Pam ultimately leave things? how did she end things with Roy? how did Jim find out about her cancelling the wedding?); the flashbacks will happen largely in the chapters pre-merger (to keep things interesting for Jim/Pam fans during their physical separation).

Dido!

I have to say that Pam's fixing-the-car story has got to be one of the most adorable things I've ever heard.

Also, I love this story. I like it better that your first AFtC story, actually; I'm not sure why, but I think I can feel so much for both the characters, now: it's strange, because most people feel more detached from them in this season, but there's so much to see now, and you put all of that across in such an awesome, awesome way in this one chapter of this story - yes, all sorts of awesome. he just couldn't afford to believe that - oh, Jim; and the way she had to fight to go up to him because she knows what he's feeling and seeing - they've completely reversed roles, and while Pam is feeling it and acknowledging, Jim just - can't. Oh, the irony. [Oh, the way this show brings out the literature-major in me.]

And finally, I feel like crying. Stupid Jim, stupid Pam, stupid. And stupid Meredith.

I'm going to sit right here and wait for an update. Unless you want me to waste my time, a second chapter would help me be more productive.

Author's Response:

Wow, thank you so much for that thoughtful review!  I'm really glad it speaks to you; as I mentioned in the author's notes, I was nervous about diving into this series again, for some reason.

(And BTW: I agree with you about feeling so much for them this season - I'm one of those people who thinks the writers are doing an excellent job.)

Seriously -- thanks again for reviewing!
