I love this ending—this is so real life, and what real life moments of happiness look like, at least in my world, lol. I enjoyed it!

1 Oh, em, gee. The sheer volume of show-stopping zingers in this one chapter was astounding.
I'm surprised it doesn't increase Dunder Mifflin's insurance premiums to have something that alcohol-soaked above a paper warehouse.
This is turning into the sexual equivalent of the Donner party.
We are in the paper business in the twenty-first century. Foresight isn't our strong point.
And the hand squeeze at the end? The “favorite pen” ploy? Oh so VERY Jam. As always, your instinct for the characters is flawless. Hearty appreciation from, like, 13 years after you wrote this, lol.
1 I really liked this. I love it when a male fic writer who actually writes relationships comes along—it’s such a treat to get to see the inside of an authentic male brain, lol. And this seemed so true to Jim, exactly what his inner voice probably sounded like on that particular drive. The line that kept hitting me was “Women are different.” Poor men—we are, lol. But not COMPLETELY different, because I guarantee you that whatever else she was feeling, Pam wanted to launch herself at Jim, too. :) Thanks for writing this!

Your choices of telling character detail are exquisite. I love how every moment you’ve chosen for our little ensemble is a moment of quiet win (except maybe Andy’s—it’s hard to tell, lol.) Your insight into every one of them is a little thing of beauty. And I really hope you’re still getting notified about your reviews after all these years because I’d really like to know if you’ve written anything else I can read. Like, anything. What if Jim had left during Dinner Party?
A very short story. Barely more than a drabble
1 Omg, this needed to be written. That maneuver of Jim’s in that episode was just too wrong to be left unaddressed. And you managed to show his very earned guilt AND get back at him. “Like a dog that had finally caught a car” is one of the most brilliant lines I’ve read all week.
Wow. You made so much beauty with such economy. “The room is hot, filled with deep breathing and then no breathing and then deep breathing again”—the way that told what was happening in such a minimalist, intuitive way...wow. Damn, woman. Lol. I’m impressed.
1 God, this is just the best story ever. Such a mature vision of what they could be and how perfectly they could evolve, with astonishingly good writing. I want to live in a world like this. Would you write the next several years of my life for me? Lol. Thanks for putting this out in the world. Is there a larger collection of your writing somewhere, with other fandoms too? Or maybe some non-fandom writing? I’d read either/both.
The first time she does it, it’s simply to answer a question: how quickly can she pack the essentials and make it out to the car? She doesn’t know exactly why she wonders; something, surely, related to a friend having to pack an overnight bag during a pregnancy or an episode of Oprah or something.1 This is a seriously excellent, sad, telling scenario and I’ve never seen it done anywhere else. I love the way Pam’s rebelling in secret before she actually ends up rebelling, and how much shorter the angst is for them both after Casino Night. Wish this had happened on the show. :) Well done!
Author's Response: Thank you so much for your thoughtful review! While I think the show re: Jim and Pam is basically perfect, I still also wish they could have just figured it out sooner. I like giving Pam a way to get there sooner on her own when I can 😊
